Spunky and tadpole was a serialized cartoon ,about 150 cartoons in stories at 10 episodes each. 1958 Thanks for putting this on ,got any more? i watched this 52 years ago.
I realize that, i was just saying that in 1958 when Spunky and Tadpole came out they had some better cartoons out before and after and the same year even. Colonel Bleep was 1957, all blown away with the Hanna Barbera bombardment of cartoons, hey, i watched them all on tv when they all first aired. Wonderful days, watching it all unfold.
I remember this when I was a little boy. S and T could be the precursor to all of the Hanna Barbera (?) cartoon characters. The voice style of all the HB character's is the same as Tadpole's.
Jesus, I forgot about this show. I used to watch it on the old BW tv set down in my aunt Roses house. I had to laugh hearing the old music in the show. Some good memories
Poor old Spunky and Tadpole , they got blown away when Ruff and Reddy ,and Huckleberry Hound ,and in 1960 The Flintstones came on. But i still watched them when ever they came on , that opening with the music was magical . Even now when i see the opening and hear that music ,im sent back 50 years.
The last time I saw them on TV was in 1972 when I was on tour with Disney. It was in Sacramento and I couldn't believe somebody was still running the series!
I remember watching it on KHJ TV in LA (channel 9) during Engineer Bill.
The Spunky and Tadpole "series" I remember was with Zenda the Witch and her "moonbeam factory". She gets busted and looks at the viewer and exclaims: "I was framed!"
Are they on dvd or old vhs, this is the only episode i can find online anywhere.. I watched Spunky and Tadpole in NYC when they first aired on TV , thanks again.
HELP, what show or host showed COLONEL BLEEP, was it Terrytoon Circus with Claude Kirchner and Clownie? I watched in NYC 1950'S and 1960'S. I remember Spunky and Tadpole, and Claude saying '' and now its time for most of you to go to bed''. Clownie called Claude, stringbean and other names. My mom would say '' you heard him, its time to go to bed''. From my bed i think i remember hearing the Honeymooners theme.
Thanks for putting this on, i watched it when it was new,in queens, long island. Cluade would say,' And now its time for most of you to go to bed'. We hated it when he said that.,.My mom did put us to bed,it must have been 7;00 pm ,
Whats odd is I don't remember the show so much as I remember the theme song! When I heard the song all these memories came flooding back. I seem to remember some of the early Spunky & Tadpole shows as being very poorly made. They were like stick drawings and really didn't catch my interest. I saw this as a very young child in 1957, WPIX, Ch. 11 in Long Island, New York.
We used to watch this on "Princess Betsy's Cartoon Theater" (Maybe not have been that exact title, but it's close anyway!)on Saturday afternoons. The show was broadcast from KFVS TV Channel 12 out of Cape Girardeu, Missouri back in the late sixties.
Golly, I remember watching this cartoon on Cartoon Express on the Engineer Bill show, somewhere between Red light Green light and the mailbag! what a nice memory! kudos to you tube!
Yes he did! I thought I was the only one who remmebered! Claude also was the Voice for Marx toys back then,He also did the Ovaltine commercials which his show sponsored.I am 52 years old and I remmeber this very well!! Great Memories
I used to see this in the early 60's on KHJ TV Channel 9 in Los Angeles. I was about 9 years old back then but I still can remember a few episodes and that nostalgic theme music.
I was so young when I watched this as a little kid that I don't really remember much about it other than I thought Spunky and Tadpole were great! 5 stars and thanks for sharing!
Holy sh*t!! I REMEMBER THIS!!! I swear as I write this the last time I saw this I must have been 3 or 4 years old. This was back in 1964! This cartoon wasn`t just played in 1958 but also in the early 60`s!!
My exact reaction also. Forty-three years maybe of complete amnesia about this until I clicked the video window at CartoonBrew, and WHAM--the dopey music, the stage curtains sliding away from that kid and bear in a frozen hoorah...it all came back. Weird.
Now if someone can just dredge up a copy of the 'chasing lights' intro from NBC Saturday Night at the Movies, circa 1965, I will die happy.
This is dedicated to JOHN CANALE!

Hanna-Barbera was already established for two years by the time this was produced. In fact in this same year, H-B produced QUICK DRAW MCGRAW.

@BlackMariaDownUnder A lot of that "Cartoon Dump" atmosphere is a bit smarmy and cynical.

Poor Don Messick, stuck doing this. I thought Spunky was Chris Allen for a bit.
The theme is Toyshop Window by Roger Roger. Probably from the Synchro library.
