I use to go to the middle school across the street from the wreck. My ex girlfriends dad worked at the plant when it happend. He got killed as well. God bless the souls that were involved.
Norfolk Southern handed out eyecharts and eyeglasses to a train crew a month prior to this accident for running through a switch in dark territory. I wonder if they gave the dead members of the crew their eyecharts and eyeglasses posthumously?

I really wouldn't recommend that. That date is a bit too touchy for the residents of Graniteville. Plus, to me thats not really showing respect to Chris.
Dude, I remember hearing @ that crash and the ensuing chlorine outburst that it caused. I heard it was some idiot engineer's fault who forgot to hit the rail switcher or something causing the two trains to be on the same track.
Yea, but poor judgement was really to blame on the WHOLE crew of P22. I'm not trying to bash them because they've really been paying the ulitmate price.
No, according to the NTSB report, all passed the drug alcohol test. One took allergy medicene and another one took vitamins for his joints. Both had no problems with that in their system while working.
Basically, the P22's crew left the switch open due to the Brakeman and Conductor (engineer was extra board and went on duty at 8:46 while the others were on duty at 7) going on the law and hurried to finish before they went on the law. The NTSB report has everything, good report to read.
I was involved in that train wreck. I was trapped in my car under a tree a ground zero for approximately three hours. That was a horrible night.

The crew didn't double check the switch and left it lined to the siding instead of back to the Main.

Wasn't one of the engineers drunk??? (I could be way off with that one, but it seems like I remember hearing that @ the error with the switch.)
