My profesor was speaking about this case, and he showed the class news articles about this and i was shocked, i feel sad for her but i know that in the future her husband will pay for that, 7 years in prison is nothing compared to the life that he changed forever. Keep it up Connie!!

It isn't just steroids... the Doctors have included a lot of extra skin so there is no stretching or pressure on the stiches. When it is all healed up they can then do more operatrions to tighten her face up and she will lose the 'fat chin' look.
The results are already amazing - look at the 'before' pictures... the whole of the centre of her face was destroyed, no nose, upper jaw, cheekbones...

htye are not good for your health, that is for sure. And persons who had a transplant, face or organ, will always be nder controll of the hospital, since the medicine do have a tremendous effect on other organs etc. the thing is, are you willing to take the risks of the medication in order to have a more normal life.. that is something you hav to take into acount. So yes she probably wont live to become 80, but in my opinion it is definatly worth it..
click "more info" on the right. they replaced her jaw and her transplanted nose looks normal. she could breath and smell through the nose almost immediately. "archives of plastic surgery" this month updates that blood vessels and transplanted tissue have all integrated with her own and she has more expression and speaks more clearly. that vid was only 6 months after the transplant and tissue rejection was possible. in a few years with more surgery, who knows?
I disagree entirely. This is a success. Her quality of life has improved ten fold. Can you even imagine what she went through? Truly? This is incredible. Our technology at this point in history is astonishing.
Of course she won't be a top model, but it will get a little more back to normal. Her coordination will improve, and the massive swelling will decrease, too. And the most important thing is: she can breathe and eat normally now.
Probably some more surgeries will follow. A good example is the woman with the first transplanted face, Isabelle Denoire. Apart from the scars she looks rather normal now. Fingers crossed for Connie...

The jowls will be reduced, the doctors had to give her 2 sets of glands which explains why her face is so bottom heavy, but future surgeries are going to normalize it.

Gosh this woman is SO dignified and graceful, to face the world with your head held high and to be able to laugh is just incredible. She really is an inspiration to humanity.
The good news is that not only will her excess skin be romoved, but the nerves between her skin and face will begin to reinstate themselves and this will in turn give her better and more antural facial expression. She is going to be OK and i'm just keeping her in my prayers day and night.

you all are acting like they had a million options for a face! i'm sure the donor was a beautiful woman.. certainly on the inside for allowing doctors to peel off her face. Connie's muscles and nerves will continually get stronger and you're acting like she has absolutely no hope left. It's a miracle that doctors were able to help her so much. Who knew your could have a face transplant?! It's remarkable!

And to those commenting about her face, as the nerves connect and the muscles grow stronger, the docs will shape the face. And remember she is still severely swollen, and has a lot of water retention in the transplanted skin,

What brilliant spirit and character. Those who would post cruel thoughts show they have no capacity to survive as she has let alone to be forgiving towards the man who shot her in the face with a shotgun. Instead of letting him take her life and spirit she has helped our entire world by agreeing to such grueling and difficult surgery. I am a 6'6", 250, healthy ,male and don't know if I have the guts this little unassuming woman has to deal so admirably with the hand life has dealt her. Bravo
