Also to my understanding the piece that hit you van was from second tnak that ruptured. In slow motion version you can see that as the top opens up it rolls right into direction of you catapulting some pipes, which too can be seen in a few frames. Also time difference is pretty good for that distance.

Excellent footage and sound on these videos. May i ask what equipment you used?

All of the stuff related to the explosion was shot on a Sony VX2100/internal mic with wind muffler.

I too have been impressed with the quality of the built in mic on that camera. It is a stereo mic. Usually you don't get that good with built in mics. You should hear it in the raw digital file on my 5.1 surround system on my computer cranked up. Just like being there!

I too have a video of a explosion, but this one is for a pipeline explosion. I have to wait to get my other computer fixed before I can put it on here. Amazing Video though.

is the news station going to pay the damage that was done by the tank battery explosion form the lighting. or is it the other way around you have to pay the damage? cause your responsible for the news van. glad it did not hit you

I'ts my vehicle, but the oil company has said they would pay for the damage. Great company! They evidently have been very supportive of those firefighters for a long time now.

I'm sure that it will be needed for investigation. Stuff like this, EPA etc all have to get involved. I may ask if I can have it after they are all done.

D, what happened to the giant valve thingy that clobbered your car? Did they need it for the investigation? By all rights, they ought to eventually give it to you as some sort of crazy 'trophy.'

If you didn't see all the burn marks and soot left over, you might think this was tornado damage.

that's weird it got that side of your van i thought you were parked facing the other way is how it got that corner so it came across and went in the front at an angle

It actually went in the sky very high and came down at enough of an arc to clear the power lines, and impacted from above. You can see the top edge imprint of the pipe along the hood/fender seam.

Man David that is crazy, what an incredible experience. It is a miracle that piece of shrapnel from the bleve didn't kill you.

Yeah me, but most especially all those firefighters. Had that tank landed 50 feet to the west we would have a very grim story to tell today.

But yeah, given the radius that piece could have landed, what are the odds of it hitting RIGHT THERE!

Also you are absolutely right this could have turned into a tragedy quickly if not for the fact those firefighters were saved. Someone was looking out for all of you there that night.
