It is really difficult to pick a winner between those three. Anytime You Need a Friend is probably my favourite Mariah song (although this clip misses the whistle register), but you should try listening to the various live versions. She sings this song very well live, but that could be said about most of her songs in pre-97.

What is sad about WH is that she now can do only half of what she had. Yet, MC and CD are still doing what they did, though (many times) not as great as they used to. Well, MC's voice was drowning for past 2-3 years too. However, we all have respect to them all as vocal trinity. And my best wish is that they all return with their Voices at full capacity. They would bash all other poor new divas for sure.
The thing is: you can't compare divas. They all have their disticnt qualities that make them amazing. Celine and Whitney and increbidly powerful belters. Mariah's got range and a killer whistle register, X-tina is amazing with her vocal acrobatics. It's best not to try and compare these qualities and say that one diva is better than the other. Mariah has more range and can do a thing or two with her voice that Whitney can't do, but Whitney's sheer clarity and power are everything to me. The crystalline qualities of Whitney's voice are unmatched. Mariah however, is just vocal perfection, period...
Mariah for me. Celine's voice is nothing special at all. She literally sings in the same key in EVERY single song & as she hits higher notes her voice gets very nasally & thins out. And when speaking in terms of preserving the voice, I wouldn't call Celine's lip-syncing "preserving" lol. Yes Mariah's voice tends to yo-yo but she is still vocally superior. With her resonance, 5-octave range & whistle register, there's just no denying. Whitney did have "The Voice" back in the day.
I have to say, strictly basing this on vocals, Celine Dion comes out on top. I like Whitney and Mariah too but the clarity and the pureness of Celine Dion is what makes the listeners listen to her songs over and over and over again! @MrButler124 fantastic support? oh come on. It´s her stumbling block. She like to use operatic techniques (eg. stable larynx), but her support lack in terms of dynamics. Operatic techniques requires great support, otherwise it is very dangerous. She is like powerful on the wrong vowels. She uses too much air through her belts, etc, etc. On the other hand, her whistle is very easy for her (possibly caused by damage to the vocal cords). She is good, but not great technician.

OK. Sadly, whitney's vocal chords are ruined due to the drug addiction. In her prime, she was phenomenal, and it's hard to see such a huge star fall on her face, she's getting back on her feet. Mariah's voice is special, so lovely, but these days it's the "whistle note" keeping her going, her chest voice is lovely still, but not as powerful. Celine takes it for me, her voice is lovely, superb dynamics, although she's lost some power, she can still sing her heart out. Two words, Las Vegas! :)
In terms of singing ability nobody could ever agree on who's the best. But to me, Mariah's voice has that special something (maybe its sweetness and innocence?) that can heal my soul in a way that the other two can't.

It is really difficult to pick a winner between those three. Anytime You Need a Friend is probably my favourite Mariah song (although this clip misses the whistle register), but you should try listening to the various live versions. She sings this song very well live, but that could be said about most of her songs in pre-97.

What is sad about WH is that she now can do only half of what she had. Yet, MC and CD are still doing what they did, though (many times) not as great as they used to. Well, MC's voice was drowning for past 2-3 years too. However, we all have respect to them all as vocal trinity. And my best wish is that they all return with their Voices at full capacity. They would bash all other poor new divas for sure.

Mariah's got range and a killer whistle register, X-tina is amazing with her vocal acrobatics. It's best not to try and compare these qualities and say that one diva is better than the other. "The Voice" will always take this competition home. Whitney's tonal quality alone when singing is more pleasing to the ear than quite possibly anything that Celine has ever done as a vocalist, and Mariah is very much Whitney's vocal equal. Mariah has more range and can do a thing or two with her voice that Whitney can't do, but Whitney's sheer clarity and power are everything to me. Mariah for me. Celine's voice is nothing special at all. She literally sings in the same key in EVERY single song & as she hits higher notes her voice gets very nasally & thins out. And when speaking in terms of preserving the voice, I wouldn't call Celine's lip-syncing "preserving" lol. Yes Mariah's voice tends to yo-yo but she is still vocally superior. With her resonance, 5-octave range & whistle register, there's just no denying. Whitney did have "The Voice" back in the day.

@MrButler124 fantastic support? oh come on. It´s her stumbling block. She like to use operatic techniques (eg. stable larynx), but her support lack in terms of dynamics. Operatic techniques requires great support, otherwise it is very dangerous. She is like powerful on the wrong vowels. She uses too much air through her belts, etc, etc. On the other hand, her whistle is very easy for her (possibly caused by damage to the vocal cords). She is good, but not great technician.

Whiney's album became number one because there was hype of her comeback. The album was an okay album. But on stage. I would say Whitney's voice is long gone.
When Mariah did her comeback with The Emancipation of Mimi in 2005, she didn't disappoint. She had her highest first week sales at that time, beaten later by her E=MC2. Album produced 2 number ones... and a number two. She made chart records again. TEOM was crowned as the best selling album of 2005. She toured and didn't disappoint. Haha!

I love listening to Whitney and Celine but a lot of aspiring new singers can easily immitate / emulate the singing ability of these two divas. But Mariah? Anyone who tries to sing like Mariah would definitely end up being an EPIC FAIL! @whfan007 did you also not how whitney's excuse of a world tour was a total disaster even though it was billed as her comeback? did you check that in 5 years of vegas residency celine still placed in the top 5 earning artists even though she never toured? whitney and mariah are not there. did you notice that Celine's Taking Chances tour was one of the highest grossing of the past decade? The 2nd highest of that year? check thoroughly. aint saying the other 2 are bad just they used to be better.

@CHAOSmasterdark Honey, Whitney didn't tour the USA, she toured overseas and still ranked as one of the biggest tours of the year. Was her voice perfect? No. But she didn't lipsynch a note, unlike your Celine trikcing the audience in many of her songs, and Whitney's tour despite it all still sold-out almost every show. Also her album was #1 all over the world. Taking Chances wasn't. See ya.

@whfan007 if u paid attention... celine performed more concert dates than whitney. close on 2 million people saw her tour. she performed at the plains of abraham for a crowd of half a million, her album might not have been number one but at least the woman didnt choke on stage and for your information it was pre-recording and only of the notes that would prove difficult while performing actively moving and dancing. she admits to live pre-recording. lip-syncing is entirely different.

@whfan007 and fyi its common knowledge that performing live... no one comes near celine. id rather see a well presented concert with a few live pre-recorded parts on backing track than pay to see a washed up has been trying to relive her glory days and instead failing rather miserably. face it HONEY whitney was good WAS being the key word here. Celine in the other hand STILL IS.

OK. Sadly, whitney's vocal chords are ruined due to the drug addiction. In her prime, she was phenomenal, and it's hard to see such a huge star fall on her face, she's getting back on her feet. Mariah's voice is special, so lovely, but these days it's the "whistle note" keeping her going, her chest voice is lovely still, but not as powerful. Celine takes it for me, her voice is lovely, superb dynamics, although she's lost some power, she can still sing her heart out. Two words, Las Vegas! :)

In terms of singing ability nobody could ever agree on who's the best. But to me, Mariah's voice has that special something (maybe its sweetness and innocence?) that can heal my soul in a way that the other two can't.

@GTownSinger I agree, Celine is the easily the better singer. More powerful, clearer & cleaner, and with better diction. And when she "belts" them out, she does so with singing purity, she is not wailing, or blaring, as the others tend to do...

Why compare? These three women have got to be THE best vocalists our world has ever seen. Each has an amazing gift. All great singers, but totally different vocal styles and different eras. Comparing these three is like comparing Elvis, the Beatles and Michael Jackson. It's just not fair (in my opinion). Love all three! :)

The way i see it is all three of them are the greatest vocalist of all time... As of right now, I say Celine takes it. Whitney's drug abuse has scarred her vocals for life. Mariah is just, the same vocal over and over. Celine is inarguable, she can hit any note perfectly, watch the taking chances tour. She can sing All By Myself live even better than the studio version!

Mariah and whitney can't really sing well as before (because of the drug abuse from whitney and the whispering from mariah) So i'd say Celine, but if we were in early 90s, I'd say Whitney and mid-90s, I'd say Mariah. Celine takes it since 1997.

I really think Barbra owns all 3 of them. Mariah and Whitney lost their voices a while ago, I'm pretty sure. They're all better than anyone else, but Barbra is at the top. She has a 45 year long career...Not many people can say that. Whitney is def. number 2. :)
