The thing I like about TSO is that for their live performances, they bring a rock bad (piano, guitar, bass, drums, vocalists) and they hire the local orchestra to play with them. Hopefully one day I will get to experience that great honor.

@YngwieReid - The reason Alex sounds so good here is because that's Al Pitrelli, who happens to be one of a handful of guitarists who can play at that level. Skolnick is a great guitarist, but Al Pitrelli he ain't.

Unless you're saying that Alex's playing in this specific part of the show, rather than actually "here" (as in this video), I'm getting more and more confused. The person playing guitar in this video is the guy who defined the guitar sound of TSO (listen to the records), Al Pitrelli. Yet again, Alex Skolnick is an amazing player, just not Al.

@OldGeezerRockFan I take back what I posted...before I heard this I thought AP was just a generic shredder like so many others. I agree that very few people go for tone, vibrato and melody, most guitar players with talent get caught up in the scale obsessed wanker shredding deal and they never grow beyond it. Gary Moore, Scott Gorham, Jeff Carlisi and even Slash (a mediocre talent but a guy with the right approach) make up a short list of guitar players whose playing features lyrical melodies.

i've been to 2 concerts by TSO. and they freaking rock. and they are really good. i was next to this guy on the guitar at one point (he walked through the isles and i was on the end. i wanted to touch the guitar but i didn't want to get shot from all the rest of the fans)

oh yeah and when he was close you could hear that he was really playing. no syncing for these guys

Christmas in May for TSO fans! I went to final show of TSO spring tour in Dallas May 2nd and they had camera crew filming it. Said it would be TSO's 1st live DVD. Less pyro than winter tour in larger venues but still should please fans. Had more pyro than other cities on spring tour. Paul O'Neill even made rare-maybe 1st Dallas appearance.
