The song itself is very tender...I am talking about the PRODUCTION of the music...not the performance...though the performance isn't much better than the production sound. I've always found Beck an over-rate...this clip is a fine example of why.

It does sort of need Nico's plodding Teutonic vocal to counteract the sweetness of the chords and melody (and the "Guantanamera" harmonies). Slower tempo would've helped. Also, higher cheekbones. Overall, though, Beck wins points for the Record Club project and Nico loses points for her Nazism, so... tie? (Oh, wait, Beck loses points for the Scientology...)

very nice cover...i'm still lost why anyone feels the need to compare anything that doesn't matter. all musicians used to do each other's songs and no one cared, especially the people being entertained...a cover actually is a compliment to the original and the cover should be enjoyed in it's own right.
