  • My daughrt, 27 knows how much I LOVE this song & VanGogh paintings. I have them hanging all over my house. Just prints, thats all I can afford. She sent me a VanGogh Calender for X-Mas. We who cannot afford the the REAL thing that is a perfect gift. BTW, I had a CLOSE friend that took his life over 10 yrars ago. SAD!!! It just happrns to be his name was VINCENT! RIP my friend! Funny how the holoidays bring out ll this stuff from everyone. Just don't take your life! They're ppl ouy there luv U

  • Vincent Van Gogh suffered tremendously in what is now known as Clinical Depression and Codependency. I can identify with Van Gogh and his anguish because I take meds for Depression. I am lucky to be living in an era where they know how to treat these mental difficulties, unlike poor Vincent Van Gogh, whereas his generation didn't even know what mental disorder meant.

  • @jbdream3 Though he may have suffered from these disorders, it makes me graze the idea that his problems were the motivating factor in his paintings, thus, we wouldn't know Van Gogh as he was and the world wouldn't know his paintings. Clinically by society's definition , I think all great men in history were misunderstood and depressed in a way, so the beauty is reminiscent through their different channels.   • I've been reading "the letters of Vincent van Gogh" and I've started to feel for this man. He was a terrific artist and compassionate person. Everyone always remembers the ear thing when they hear his but he's so much more than that.

He wasn't easy to get along with and his ear lobe got chopped off by his friend so he had to lie to the cops saying he was impressing a girl at the local pub and they believed him cause they thought he was crazy. He went in and ot of the mental hospital.   • Don McLean, thank you for the most wonderful ballad. It takes a true artist to create such a touching song of tribute to the genius painter who gaze at the night sky and awed by its beauty. Your "Starry Starry Night" paints wonderful colors in my mind just the same as I look at Vincent's painting.

  • If anyone would like to see a great movie based on his life, try and download an old movie called LUST FOR LIFE. I believe the year was 1958. It is truly a great movie starring KIRK DOUGLAS, and he does a wonderful job playing Vincent van Gogh. You can't help but love and understand his incredible passion that he has for painting, and understand more about his life and his struggles.

  • Never pass up a chance to see a Van Gogh exhibit. It was a very moving experience for me as an artist myself. Picture and prints just can't describe the energy from from his work the same as standing just a few feet from the actual paintings.

  • What I love about this guy Van Gogh is that he would paint anything, he didn't care. If it was a pile of rotten potatoes or a pile of garbage he would paint the freaking thing. And he never compromised about it.... Even though the guy was flat broke, he never painted solely to sell, So many artists today get so incredibly pretentious from art to music solely to sell but this guy never did. Even in his portraits, he didnt care how deformed he made the person look, he never ever compromised.

  • It is truly interesting how art's been viewed through the ages. In Vincent's time, it had to meet a certain standard and quality in order to be passed off as "art" by the big wigs. Nowadays we live in an age where talent is overlooked and for the most part, oppressed; consequently, the art suffers. But art shouldn't be judged, it should be limitless and unrestrained, because essentially that's where its true power and beauty lies. Beautiful tribute to an amazing, and genuine artist!
