i have to agree. in fact i had to deal with bullying everyday when i was in middle school and part of freshman and sophomore year in high school because i'm disabled. they threw things at me, put trash in my food at lunch, called me retard, wrote on my locker and my purse with a sharpie pen. i was usually one of those kids who could clear a table at lunch just by showing up. i learned by senior year when i was crowned a prom princess that some of these ppl actually regretted their behavior.
I think the school didn't like that kid is taking matters into his own hands because it hurts the pride of the school because its their job to stop bullying. Its kind of like if you work in a construction company and someone just walks by and does your job better than you have for the past three years. I'm not taking the side of the school. I'm just throwing out a theory as to why the school lashed out at the fat kid. Personally I say give that fat kid a cookie for what he did.

In my experience when getting bullied as a kid in the 1970s, rising up and laying the smackdown on the bully sends a message to his friends (and pretty much every other kid) that you are nobody to fuck with, for they now know that if their bully friend (who's usually the "leader" of the group, and thus usually perceived as the "strongest") got his ass owned by someone he fucked with, they are next.

The reason the fat kid got suspended is because the school found out the whole story,and it was determined that fat kid was taughting the skinny kid and vice versa and it escalated to the fight video but ofcourse everyone sees just part of what really happen and concluded the video to be the bully fights back video. Seriously, the whole situation was just a sad event.

My parents were always proud of me for it.

Doing some research, it sounds to me like the school reacted well. The bully was suspended for 21 days, but the kid was suspended only for 4. I remember those days when everything was a finger-pointing festival and you could never trust any word said. Not knowing the situation, I don't see how the school could be 100% sure who started it. We know the small kid walked up and started punching in the video, but what happened before then? Maybe they were both the victim and the cause.
The 12 year old was sick of fatso and probably everyone else calling him a faggot, or peer presuring him to be one, when he's not. I got pushed around in primary school by one kid. I punched him in the face and bust his glasses. I got dragged into the office with my mother and warned.
A week later, obviously buoyed by the loving school system, the bully attacked me again. What did i do? I smacked him in the face again and bust his new pair of glasses.
He kinda got the hint after that, that i would not be pushed around and i was left in peace.

I think the punch on the jaw , should have been met with a return punch to the jaw. No kid should go around school thinking it's not OK to defend themselves , especially when another kid just takes it upon himself to hurt you. The kid that should have been punished , was the kid who was doing all the teasing. Note that the aggressor who threw the first punch had backup , who didn't step in while the bodyslam was in play.

In my experience when getting bullied as a kid in the 1970s, rising up and laying the smackdown on the bully sends a message to his friends (and pretty much every other kid) that you are nobody to fuck with, for they now know that if their bully friend (who's usually the "leader" of the group, and thus usually perceived as the "strongest") got his ass owned by someone he fucked with, they are next.

The reason the fat kid got suspended is because the school found out the whole story,and it was determined that fat kid was taughting the skinny kid and vice versa and it escalated to the fight video but ofcourse everyone sees just part of what really happen and concluded the video to be the bully fights back video. Seriously, the whole situation was just a sad event.

I was suspended so much in my school life and it was always either fighting back against a bully, or fighting a bully in defence of a victim or standing up to an asinine teacher, or standing up to racists and homophobes. My parents were always proud of me for it.

Doing some research, it sounds to me like the school reacted well. The bully was suspended for 21 days, but the kid was suspended only for 4. I remember those days when everything was a finger-pointing festival and you could never trust any word said. Not knowing the situation, I don't see how the school could be 100% sure who started it. We know the small kid walked up and started punching in the video, but what happened before then? Maybe they were both the victim and the cause.

I think the punch on the jaw , should have been met with a return punch to the jaw. No kid should go around school thinking it's not OK to defend themselves , especially when another kid just takes it upon himself to hurt you. The kid that should have been punished , was the kid who was doing all the teasing. Note that the aggressor who threw the first punch had backup , who didn't step in while the bodyslam was in play.
