How exactly has God decided that man has better judgement than women? And how are men so superior to women that they are given the authority over us? Lastly it is also true that testosterones in men can also lead them to be violent and unreasonable and so would they really be able to control their anger when lightly beating their wives???. @muazweirdo I also studied classical arabic in school for 4 years and I understand very well that وَٱضْرِبُوهُنَّ in verse 4:34 means plane and simple "beat her". There are also Hadith mentioning woman coming to the prophet who had bean beaten so badly that her face was green from bruises and he still didn't scold her husband but said to her that they she has not been obedient enough. I have heard rationalizations for horrific acts of misogyny all my life. I think I have heard enough!

I saw battered women in divorce courts denied divorce because their husbands hadn't beaten them hard enough yet according to Islamic guidelines! How exactly has God decided that man has better judgement than women? And how are men so superior to women that they are given the authority over us? Because last time I checked, if I cut my shirt a little low, I can wrap a man around hell-fire with one outfit. Who's the authority over men, hm? Who's preventing them from hell? If the wife is adamant in disobeying her husband, how would a light beating change her mind and furthermore what is a light beating?? Is it a light tap on the arm with a miswake that is used for cleaning teeth?? Lastly it is also true that testosterones in men can also lead them to be violent and unreasonable and so would they really be able to control their anger when lightly beating their wives???. @newfful The man is not the 'master' the man is the 'leader'. i'll tell you the logic behind this, women are by nature fragile, and vulnerable they go through mensus after mensus, menopause with hormonoes flying left and right. this is a fact. Now, it would be oppressive to the women to make her be the leader in the household when shes already got enough to deal with. Whereas, men are by nature physically strong, and less inclined with their emotions. thus making them suitable for the role.

@muazweirdo I also studied classical arabic in school for 4 years and I understand very well that وَٱضْرِبُوهُنَّ in verse 4:34 means plane and simple "beat her". There are also Hadith mentioning woman coming to the prophet who had bean beaten so badly that her face was green from bruises and he still didn't scold her husband but said to her that they she has not been obedient enough. I have heard rationalizations for horrific acts of misogyny all my life. I think I have heard enough!

@muazweirdo I grew up hearing on TV and reading in Islamic books telling disgusting stuff like: "Blessed is she who encounters her first menstruation in the house of her husband!" I saw battered women in divorce courts denied divorce because their husbands hadn't beaten them hard enough yet according to Islamic guidelines! I saw what misery these kinds of rules and this Islamic mentality leads to and my heart weeps for all those poor women who are suffering.

So The islamic law has given the women provision that she can get a qazi ( islamic lawyer) and sui her husband and if he is proven guilty he would be punished, a physical punishment much harder than women !

@TheRationalizer you have to give woman a chance, beating as in describe here is symbolic and is supposed to show the anger or discontent of a man towards his wife showing that he is unhappy and the relationship is on the verge of breaking and it stays within the house, on the other hand if you drag a woman on the court you are not giving her any chance, in case she is proven guilty directly. That is EQUAL rights. There is no exception that a man can beat his wife because he is stronger etc.

Yes in contract a women can opt to nullify the marraige if the man marries another women. She has that option and for divorce, Man can simply say "talak" and divorce.. there must be reasons. and a women can initiate Divorce. moreover in Islam, women has 33% rights on property of their husband/father. no other religion gives any financial rights to women. you cant beat your wife, did you even listen to the video?
