This film was made from a script for Beverley Hills Cop. Sly was originally cast as Eddie Murphys character but would only do it with a lot more action scenes than the original BHC script. The producers eventually couldn't afford to do all the action scenes so had to break the contract with Sly who agreed to leave without holding them to their financial obligations to him. BHC was made with Murphy and this movie was made from the script alterations.
