  • I have heard that horn

  • Anyone ever see a trailer train where the rail trucks are connected directly to the trailers? No flat bed railcars! I saw a NS eastbound by Alexandria PA last weekend like this. Each truck was connected to the end of one trailer and the nose of the next. I never saw that before. I wish I had my camera with me.

  • @thomabb Those would be TripleCrown roadrailers.

  • Woop. That railroad leads to the hood.

    haha.

  • Cool

  • i live in fostoria, the trains are annoying

  • I would've thought people could get used to it. I live near a military base and the planes fly over all the time. We get used to those. Although with Fostoria getting 100+ trains daily, I guess hearing that many horns can get sort of old for non-railfans. For me, though, I would LOVE it if I lived there!

  • well sometimes i like seeing them. i especially like the grafitti on them. but the main problem is getting stuck by them. especially in the iron triangle. ive never been through there without getting stuck by a train. then just this morning, the only reason im up right now is because of a train

  • @jao216 I'll never understand why people buy or build a home near a railroad, freeway, airport, etc. and then complain about the noise.

  • One of the clearest-sounding P5 horns I've ever heard. It sounds amazing! It really is unique with the descending order of notes sounding.

  • It did sound nice.

  • Ex conrail! I would love to live right there:D

  • That's nearly in perfect condition, sounds good!

  • The RS3K is, like I said, a Burlington Northern style horn. There's only one locomotive on the NS roster (a Catfish) that I know of that has one, #9268. That one is definitely next on my list to catch, as those RS3K horns are becoming increasingly rare as time goes on.

  • Sure that's not a K5LA with a fouled bell? All catfish type NS engines have K5LAs.

  • Not all of them do, actually. What happens is that if the K5LA runs out-of-stock (which happened very often since NS got so many C40-9Ws), they replace it with an older horn. Most Catfish have K5LAs, but I have also seen them with K5Hs, K3LAs, P5s, and RS3Ls. I know there's at least one Catfish on the NS roster that has a Burlington Northern-style Leslie RS3K horn.

  • A K3LA on NS? That would be neat to see! Same with an RS3K.

  • I actually have a few videos on my old Hi8 camera which have Catfish leading with K3LA horns (also have one on my YouTube site-refer to NS 23G video from last summer). It's funny, because it looks like a Catfish, which it is, but the horn sounds like it belongs on a BNSF Pumpkin GE! An example of one I have seen is on #9066, which I have seen twice, once leading, the other time trailing. The one on the 23G video that has the K3LA was on #9404.

  • out of the big 4 railroads (CSX, NS, BNSF, and UP), NS has to have the biggest and best variety of horns.

  • I'd have to agree with you there. :)

  • The unit that had the RS3K now has a K5LA. Oh, well!

  • theres actually more K3LAs on NS than people think. ive seen and heard a quite a few actually. i think they sound much more pleasant than K5LAs.

  • the P5s on NS's SD40s sound better. Specially the high nosededed SD40s with all the bells pointing forward.

  • For some reason, that WCH E-bell sounds weird.

  • That's actually a General Signals e-bell, but it wasn't working properly. It didn't sound the way it should.

  • Sorry, I am still fairly new to the realm of crossing protection. I knew it, it sounds a little off to me. :D

  • A bit squeaky but it still sounds nice!

  • all P3s and P5s squeak like that when you open up on them.
