I think this god-awful contraption (or whoever invented it) is responsible for all the f****ing awful music we had in the 1980s. I can't believe anyone would want to reproduce it but then it makes a change from sampling (stealing) from old music, which seems so popular today.
@rarteaga At least I've got some (opinions) and don't resort to insults. And there's a big difference between informed, considered opinion based on knowledge and experience, and simply 'shouting your mouth off'.
@nialldcrowley That wasn't an insult it was a comment. You should learn how to read. (That WAS an insult!) You poor bastard so sorry you hate your life. (That was ALSO an insult)
how do you load sthe samples you have on your computer of drums sounds like the linn and dmx onto this elecribe?? if you can tell me that would be cool :)
Awesome! People tend to forget how used this was in 1980's music. They only think about the TR 808. Well this definitely hands down would be second in line to the TR 808 for the most used in the 1980's. Many of its sounds were used almost as much as the 808. :)
That is so cool! I love those sounds. I use a sample library for Kontakt called Nostalgia. It has pretty much every drum machine from the 80's, ton's of keyboards with all the presets from hits back then. You can get lost just browing thru it. It's astonishing the kind of studio power that lives in a personal computer these days. Something tells me all these sounds are going to come 'round again :)
I have just purchased a mint unit (Korg ES1 MkII) on the second hand market. Had one on my "wants list" for some time. It is winding its way towards me, should be here tomorrow. I noticed you can buy a sample CD online that contains many classic 70s/80s drum/rythem machines, including the LinnDrum.
Very nice but you are recreating some LM-1 patterns as well as LM-2 patterns, so the samples don't always match... off the top off my head, Don't You Want Me and the two MJ songs are both LM-1 so they don't quite sound right here.
Ace, "Mary Jane Girls-All Night Long" That was a Linn too wasnt it?? You need to upload the drums for that lol think i'll get my MPC out and play some..
Exellent work !! I can swear i can hear the groove groove of the linndrum. Did you use any external effects ? This sounds so fat ! 5 Stars and subscribed !!
Can you put the samples which you used for this demo into a rar archive, and upload it to me or to a filedatabase. Please, maybe i can do a favour for you too ?
great video, informative. so I guess the question is, would you buy a linndrum? any idea on how different the workflows/interfaces are? I mean, aesthetically, it'd be tight to have a linndrum if you're looking for that sound, but...
you just played my college years :-)

Actually it's the Linn LM-1, not the Linn Drum. Most of the sounds are close, but sounds a tad bit different.

So many artists used the Linn LM-1!! Some of it sounded a wee bit different, but great job!
