Eden takes some of the blame but don't forget Macmillan, the right-wing Tories or the French. Why did Eden lie? Not as much to cover up the past as to protect the future...
Damn American government (does'nt mean I dislike all Americans), completely screwed us and Eden with oil, so much for the "special relationship". Only exits if it benefits them and on their terms.
@LethalPenguin92 Completly agree. As long as we'll help them illegally invade a country for oil they don't care if we are loosing our canal. Our oldest ally... Blair was so quick to forget Suez.
one feature of imperialism is monopoly-capitalism. ...Benefits from science and techology are monopolized by imperialist like US. The 3rd world is intentionally made export oriented-import dependent economies. Thus remains backward..... Long live the struggle against IMPERIALISM
up until now, lots of Edenlike lairs in Great Britain and US. One example is Bush-Blair agresion against Iraq accused of possesing waepons of mass destruction. Imperialists are curse to world peace, love and justice. Long Live struggle against imperialism
people in the third world benifited from the science technology and economic guidance their hopelessly backwards societies received . the islamic world is a prime example.salvery till exists in saudi and sudan, stalin killed millions the west be comparison was benighn a benifactor
and ths part is to takre and exploit the advantage of the resources of other nations
and make some just number 2 in their contries and for sure the science and technology ou claim third world to benefit from them are nothing more than crumbs
not real technology transfer and all the universities in third word are due to national effort not imperialism at all and long live egyptien president nasser
i dont feel sprry for eden, his actions were disgusting, nasser wasnt a pleasant ruler, but the confrontation was born out of british invovlment in the middle east, so in otherwords we got our just deserts(ish)
The actions of Sir Eden split the country in half. Nevertheless, for argument sake, if you became Prime Minister in 1955 and you were confronted with Nasser and his plans to nationalise the Suez (Of which gave Great Britain much capital and maintained the banks) and your fellow ministers believed that we need to kick back and save this - would you have done the same as Sir Eden?
Yes, thanks. I used old Pathe news clips from a DVD and put it together with a song. The song was from a BBC television program during the 1960s; sadly I cannot remember what it was called. I also feel sympathy for Eden, if it was not for the Suez he would have remained one of our great post-war Prime ministers.
I adore Eden ..Blair's forernner

The speech was off a Pathe newsreel. If you like, I can place the whole speech on Youtube by the weekend.

Would be much appreciated if you could. Can only find one short broadcast by Eden (about the Suez) on YouTube. Thanks.

how ironic that he was so talented at foreign policy yet it was for one failure in this department that he will always be rememberred for.
