Really interesting. I don't think I've ever really understood the story of Job. Why did God allow Satan to do all that?
I agree with Tony about having great difficulty believing that 'God is in control' with all the evil we see going on. Satan rules in the sinful world, but if we submit ourselves to God then He rules in our lives. But Job was "blameless and upright" - he allowed God to rule in his life. But God still let bad stuff happen?
Bad things happen in this world as a result of sin. It was never God's intention for us to suffer but when sin entered our world, (Gen 3), death and suffering was the result (Romans 6:23).
Great question! I think both sides of debate r actually saying same thing! God IS all powerful, therefore He can always b n control. I can trust that God is n control of my life, because I have given Him control, by surrendering all 2 Him. He is faithful n that trust. If I follow the world, then I let Satan control my life. God's grace allows us 2 choose who controls our lives. I don't understand all the bad that happens n this world, but what I consider bad, might just b n God's plans!
Satan needed God's permission to mess with Job because he was God's servant and under God's protection. Another good question is why is Satan hanging out in heaven in Job 1:6?
