  • What is the protocol for a situation like this? I mean what else could the pilot have done?

  • ..AND......... "Smile for the birdie".

    RiP

  • hahahahahaha lol

  • Monkeys with keyboards springs to my mind!

  • Debri to the face. :(

  • DID HE DIED??

  • Luckily, we have another bomb for you.

  • hahaah stupid american

  • camermans last words: what great landing by that guy. hey look somthings tumbling.....

  • holy shit...

  • do a bOm rolle !!

  • News was so up beat back then, i didn't even care that someone had died.

  • That bomb should not have been armed. The bomb arms after it's released by an air driven propeller. In the bomb rack a piece of safety wire attached to the airplane keeps the propeller from spinning. Once the bob is released the safety wire stay with the plane allowing the propeller to spin arming the bomb after a certain amount of turns. This shouldn't have happened. Unfortunate!

  • @DC8Super72 yea but in the footage the bomb is jolted of the corsair

  • @theboxerheads Yeah... and this is exactly the reason why bombs have a fusing device. So they don't arm and detonate unintentionally.

  • apparently war photographers were never taught to DUCK in basic

  • Gosh, don't forget the poor pilot of the plane!

  • EPIC FAIL

  • Oh Holy Sh!t

  • @gbldivmrk

hahaha, oh yeah, that is a corsair isn't it. The Forrestal was something about a missile being launched and igniting the fuel tanks of landed planes on the deck by accident right?

  • The Navy has planes...

  • 0:10 Was that a post war US Airforce jet fighter?

  • @NoShame86 no, it was a Panther Jet, standard Navy for the early 50's carrier use.

  • Comment removed

  • The way they reported news back then is really odd, almost satirical. Can you imagine how they'd have reported 9/11, if it happened in the 40's?

  • OUCH

  • my heart and prayers go out to the victim's family

  • Cool!

  • LOL

  • Did the pilot die?

  • @TheGodParticle Most of the people were killed by fragments. Although the bomb detonated close the plane the pilot had the plane( particularly the massive engine) to protect him from fragments. He was still hit unconscious and injured by the blast though. They build tough aircraft those days.

  • @knutgordon As a photographers Mate aboard the Oriskany in later years we were shown this footage. That is one of the reason that the photographers were moved up to the 07 level to take their shots. Later we had a PLAT (TV) camera on the O5 level just behind the bridge.

  • Man, you see a fucking bomb cartwheeling on the deck, you hit the fucking deck! Filming be damned

  • @TheShredworthy

Agreed, but the cameraman was probably fixated on getting some extraordinary war footage that he thought it was his lucky day when he filmed a bomb jettison down the flight deck.

  • @Dovenpeis As a photographer shooting landings, we were always told to follow anything that came off the plane. It did make for some really interesting shots, it was afterwards that we had the time to think about how close we had come.

  • @TheShredworthy NO, we were there to record what was happening and at that moment in time we held our cameras and got the footage.

  • @TheShredworthy no, it happens so quickly that there is only time to react, shoot the film. I was nearly killed when an F-8 hit the deck and nearly took out my camera and me. It was not until I saw the TV footage from the 07 level camera that I realized just how close I came to ending my naval carrer.

  • This is exactly why all modern naval aviation doctrine dictates that all ordnance is to be jettisoned prior to landing. It has saved dozens of lives since. RIP to to the camera man.

  • @BigMrSox They had the same doctrine back then. Remember, the description explains that the bomb had indeed been released, but had failed to actually detach from the aircraft. Unfortunately, not much you can do in that situation, especially if you aren't aware that you still have a bomb clinging to the underside of your plane.

  • like a football commentator..and goaaal..hey it's no more tragic than if the bomb landed where they wanted to..the intention was to kill people and they've succeded...

  • @jlasud hmmm true...

  • that's not funny <.< whats wrong with you people....

  • @dragonxanimation the instance is funny, only reason people laugh, they're not laughing at the human death, its the way it happened and the comentary.

and in the end run theres nothing we can do about it anyway.. so laugh at the anorexic models falling on the catwalk.. so to speak

  • Woah thats crazy! I especially love the corny music at the end...

  • actually nevermind i was thinking of something else.

  • is this about that air craft carrier accident that happened during vietnam where the carrier was acciendtally set on fire by a landed plane ?

  • @drfye No, this was during WW-II, and the Nam era aircraft carrier was the Forrestal that lost 136 men when a rocket was fired by an aircraft on the deck.

  • @gbldivmrk What's effed up about his video is it showed a jet powered aircraft in between the shots of the Corsair. Editing fail by someone.

  • @kaysandesses It has been fifty years since I was a photographers mate on the Oriskany, however I believe that this footage was shot during the Korean War at which time we were flying both the F-4F Corsair and the Panther Jet.

  • @gbldivmrk That must have been an interesting billet! Your evaluation makes sense, I saw in some other comments that it was a Panther jet.

  • @kaysandesses It was a most interesting tour of duty. So interecting in fact that it was over twenty years later that I finally gave it up.

    RLB USN (ret)

  • @gbldivmrk Wow! That's what you call sticking with a job.

  • woman driver

  • I 2 FIND THIS FUNNY WITH THE BOUNCING AND THE PIANO GOING OFF

  • As tragic as this is I find it kind of comical. Lol.

  • this shows the power of airbomb...he was about 20 m away and shrapnels and shock wave killed him

  • teamkiller

  • lol noob

  • Amazing how the cameraman dies but the film manages to survive...

  • @rjconnolly2nd Cameras have more armor than a human body...

    DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP.

  • @rjconnolly2nd film dosn't have ear drums to destroy.

  • @rjconnolly2nd not really that amazing, a person is a larger target than a roll of film, and people are susceptible to dying from shrapnel or being tossed around by the shock wave.

  • At the end thwn the piano plays I keep expecting the song 'dancing queen' to start.

  • @Murphyr09 i thought it sounded familar

  • @Murphyr09 I thought more about Galloping Gertie would be perfect

  • @Murphyr09 that song was playing as i read your comment o.0

  • @Murphyr09 lol
