Emo actually means Emotional, All music expresses emotion of some kind , no matter what genre or style, so what it's used as here and everywhere is just a delusion to its meaning.
It is a depressing song, that expresses the feelings of losing somebody/being heartbroken or something. it doesn't promote depression

look at their new stuff is it NU metal? no. tags mean nothing just enjoy the music :) or dont but dont let a tag dictate ur decision.
