@5niran5 for some reason, youtube won't let you post weblinks . just add the usual h double t p triple w infront of the windwave bit and it will work...
!! couldn't even type that in as it wouldn't let me post it
Have a similar 66 SL1 with a lockout on the right leg which does lock out anymore. From your experience could I possibly fix this myself. Have a workshop and quite a good set of tools. Cheers
Thank you so much! I'm picking up a bike with this fork tomorrow and I got kinda worried since it needed to be seviced. But now I'm just looking forward to the service. Very great and helpful videos! :)
even if i can't understand you because i'm from germany i have to admit that this vid is very usefull
I admire everyone who can fix his bike on his own. I would like to fix mine one myself too but before i cause more damage than i can fix i pay some euros for the service because my bike is very important to me
@holykuhmeinefresse the service on this fork is as easy as it looks. i would rather screw it up and pay to get it fixed, then get some shop to service it for me.
Thanks for the video Blumpher. I have a cheap Suntour but the assembly may be similar. Ps Put the oil can on the stool next time. It maysave a bit of clean up time.
@derx074 it's the shimano tool that removes your rear cassette...make sure you buy one without the spike that goes through the skewer hole, as that one won't fit on the fork top!
obviously fox forks are far more delicate. You might not get a massive life out of a fox, but you won't get anything close to the same performance with marzocchi, and you certainly won't get anything with over 100mm travel under 3kg with marzocchi.
Depends how you define performance...if you want the smoothest fork that will take anything you throw at it, will last a long time and is easy to service....but it weighs a bit more go Marzocchi(pre Taiwan versions!) Rockshox are not bad these days,my experience of Fox is that whilst they are light, even if youy service them regularly, they wear out quicker. They might be better now but I haven't used a recent set.
@kokopiko thats awesome life! how often do you service? I had a pair of marzocchi 4x world cups, cost me a grand and lasted 8 months, so now I'm a little anti-zocchi unfortunatley. glad to hear yours a working well though.
"you dont get that form a fox fork" il tell u wat u do get form a fox fork is movement and reliability because eny maraz that iv owned have blown up within a week and im still runing my 40s after 3 years and they are easier to maintain than any mara iv striped.
that's not my experience...wore out fox talas ones so religiously serviced the next set of fox vanillas...they lasted a couple of years before the stanchions wore out at the bottom bushings and they started to clunk. As they had been serviced regularly, the top part of the stanchion was fine. None of that with marzocchis...they are still like new after nearly 4 years use, riding every weekend. Latest Marzocchi's haven't been as good build wise, but servicing them from new sorts that...
Great vid for ppl man! Allow me to add some small hints for all homegrown mechanics who prefer to do the right thing and not pay 100$ or so to the bike service for 10mins of work... IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO BE DELICATE IN EVERYTHING YOU DO WITH THIS FORK. Everything inside and the bottom nuts are made out of light yet very fragile aluminium. If you are one of those who like the motto: brute force - if its not working U are just not using enough - pay these 100$ to the bike service.
it's a standard Shimano rear cassette removal tool, availalbe everywhere in bike shops...just don't buy the one with the metal spike that goes through the quick release hole as it won't fit!
Good vid. I've got an old pair of 80mm Marzochi Bomber M80 forks. I guess the servicing is similar for these. My forks don't have a screw on the bottom. It's actually up inside the fork about 100mm. Bit of a pin in the arse to get to.
they should be the same....that nut on the bottom is hard to reach...the deep sockets in the hlfords professional socket set reach them ok though I seem to remember
thanks for the kind comments...hope your service goes well. I suppose it's the litigation nonsense which means we get incomprehensible "instructions" designed to frighten you off so it goes back to the service agent. More fun to have a go yourself, and accept the responsibility
