They look kinda doomed with those helmets of theirs, but perhaps there's some appendix to the helmet that covers the rest of their heads? I think I've read a comic book where Luke repairs his X-wing or something in outer space, and used some kind of appendix that covered his face. The reason why they don't normally wear something like this is of couse...
