  • very poor

  • Try this..!

Let's all go to Borsetshire, let's drop in on Ambridge! Let's dance 'round the village green, an'have a drink in the Bull!

Milk the cows, clean out the pigs and then round up the sheep,

Then nip up to Grey Gables and make a nice pot of tea!

  • And after this back to N.W.A. and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

  • perfect tune to do CPR to. its true. try it!

  • I think billy connelly was right, this SHOULD be the new national anthem LMAO!

  • Never once heard any arrow fired from a bow in the programme, and i've been listening to it since 1870.

  • GO ON PIGS!

  • baaaaa BAAAAAA woof baaaaaa BAAAAA moooo baaaaa oink BAAAAAAA mooo MOOOOOO oink BAAAAA baaaaa woof

  • LOL WE SO GREEN IN OUR VILLAGE

  • hoorayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

  • Never mind the cast let the music bring back memories

  • EastEnders is more Britain than the Archers is.

  • I was just reading some local history, and it is very suprising what you can find! Aurther Wood who wrote this piece of music lived just 3 houses down from me in Heckmondwike! Not only did he live close by, but thee legand, Ken Mackintosh lived round the corner as well :')

  • Why cant this tune be our national anthem??

  • the 4 dislikes are Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks

  • And the words are:

What a loda of bloddy crap,

    What a load of rubbish,

    etc.

It fits, just sing it with the music..........;-)

  • 60th anniversary of the Archers

  • im surprised there isn't a dupstep remix of this yet!!

  • @meekotron

There will be soon . Tee hee

  • @meekotron Now that I would love to hear!

  • I really do not care what anyone says, but as far as I am concerned this is both the best programme and the best theme tune to ever be broadcast by the BBC, from England, from the United Kingdom or anywhere in the world. As was once said, Radio 4 without The Archers is as unthinkable as the BBC without Radio 4! God bless Ambridge and here's to the next 60 years!

  • A talking cow... Good Lord!

  • Yep, she's a very helpful and informative cow.

  • I love the Archers the best Soap ever

  • One of my favorite pieces of music.

I live in the US and began listening to the Archers over the net because Morse was devoted to them. It's been love ever since. It's impossible to explain to other Americans how much I've learned about British life from this show!

  • I'm with Billy Connelly. This needs to be the British national anthem. it's a lot better than boring old God Save the Queen.

  • I have had nightmares in which this theme is played constantly. My parents used to listen to it religiously of a sunday morning when I was a kid.

  • Hell, I used to listen to The Archers 45 years ago.

  • @Radguy150 oNLY 45! TRY 55

  • At 55 I was only a couple of months old.

  • @Radguy150 I was 14-curses!

  • this should be our national anthem!

  • @hukiara

XD "we're being lapped in the olympic games before the games hav even started yet"

    "gooood saaaaave our.." lmao!

  • The Archers Rock!

  • the so-called Doom music starts at 2:29 - reserved for truly momentous events in The Archers like the deaths of important characters.

  • great stuff

  • Now sing "Love Me Tender" by Elvis to the same tune.

  • no way! I think you have just doubled the enjoyment i have while listening to this song!

  • @EnglishmaninPoland Yes, I heard that episode of ISIHAC too!!

  • isn't it funny, you either whole-heartedly LOVE the Archers, or you wish an nuclear missile would hit the little village of Ambridge. I personally love the archers, but i've only been listening to them for a couple of weeks, so i still am a bit confused as to who anyone is!

  • @mushroomanchilli don't worry! I've been listening since I was 12 (22 years ago!) it takes about a month and you'll soon get it (though sometimes some of the characters, especially the younger women (Falon Brenda and Kirsty in particular) all seem to sound the same - but you'll get it in the end! hang in there and read The Archers Encyclopaedi\ and you'll soon understand the whole 60 year history!

  • @dezzah1976 Hello Dezzah, I too have been listening to the Archers for a long time. My dad listened to it and I was in my early years, and as I approach the big 60, life in this country would be simply wrong without it. It gives me a sense of family stability, and as long as politicians are corrupt, expendable and useless, and the world goes through all sorts of ups and downs, the Archers gives me a robust feeling of "everythings all ok."

  • this should be the national anthem lol

  • same man

  • Fantastic piece of music but a national anthem needs lyrics. Land of Hope and Glory would be better.

  • and who says lyrics couldn't be written for it lol? but yeh, if this weren't a possibility, land of hope and glory.

  • I do apologize if I sound disrespectful, but I agree that this should be the British National Anthem as well, so much more cheerful!!! This is coming from an American Girl!! LOL!

  • this should be our national anthem, instead of the boring funeral dirge we have now.

  • @phantomxr omg tell me that u were watching Billy Connolly when u thought of that

  • will susan keep her job at the shop?

  • Norma Painting - Phil Archer has Died.

    So sad.

A true Gent, he will be missed by many.

  • I never could spell - that obviously should be Norman Painting. - sadly missed.

  • I'm glad this post exists, so like others who have commented I can fully get the jokes in that billy connolly stand up video. Billy is the man.

  • So did I, hilarious video.

  • I'm not a fan of the Archers but I really like the theme tune. Is the Sunday Omnibus alternative version on youtube anywhere? I can't find it but I'd like to if it's here!

  • Is this it?

    watch?v=wNEawM6vZf4

  • I learnt somthing new today, did'nt know he wrote the Archers theme tune.......

Watched the one show on BBC1 tonight

    Suzie

  • I only decided to listen to this because I found an old Billy Connolly video. Billy Connolly - The National Anthem

  • I am the same.

  • lol me too 8DD

  • Me too!!!

  • And me.

    mon the big yin.

  • @IrvsZazza Oh me too. just listend to it 5 minutes ago.

  • @IrvsZazza hat's the exact reason i'm here right now lol

  • @IrvsZazza he's got a point as well, you have to admit

  • @IrvsZazza Ha! Me too! XD

  • The Archers is rubbish at first listen, but when you've grown up with it off & on it can get to you. Sunday mornings, can't be arsed to get out of bed yet, then the Omnibus starts on R4 & I'm stuck there for another 1hr 15 mins. And gin-soaked Lilian Bellamy .. she might be pushing 60 but ... Beyonce, watch out.

  • yobo stations? how can you say that you stupid idiot

  • Ach the old Radio 4 superiority complex is alive and well.I will admit the modern Radio 1 is awful but I couldn't say it was for yobs and chavs. Actually I find the Archers very boring but love the theme music.

  • I love the Archers as does my sister, we both started listening only a couple of years ago, by accident but...

    it's fantastic!

    I love it!!!!!

And I'm only 28, so its not just for old people.

  • I'm 23, looks like its just for the younger people then !

  • 27 here and started listening when I was 25, so it must be for us!

  • whenever i hear this it reminds me of a brilliant youtube user called "oneneverlovesenough" :D

  • Whats to hate about Britains longest running continuing drama? its fantastic stuff, & 58 years & nearly 16,000 episolds must prove that! And we love the sunday morning omnibus spiced up theme.

  • Iconic tune I agree! But don't be so harsh on the show. Some of the finest radio acting in english can be found here. Ambridge is a middle England farming community true - but if you think nothing much happens, then think again. Muggings, Alzhiemer's sufferers and a gay wedding - to name but 3...

  • The Archers is pretty poor but thats what makes it so great. I listen to it a lot. This theme tune and that of "Sports Report" at 5pm Saturday on Five Live are my fave theme tunes on the radio.

  • Great song but it does not, as stated earlier, justify the almost half a year of non-stop Archers that just goes on constantly on Radio 4, every after every other programme that's on, "And now, blah-di-blah gets into trouble in the Archers..."

  • When you are far, far away from your home, this tune helps you to keep you sane. Reminds you of your home country.

  • Yes agree absolutely. When I am feeling homesick, it really helps. The theme 'Lilliburlero' from the World Service has the same effect on me - often moves me to tears!

  • The Archers and BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4 are great. And yes I hate yobo Radio stations like BBC Radio 1 and Kiss 100 (London)

  • wots not to like about the archers

  • brilll, i love the archers very well done

  • brill, it does it justise

  • The archers is a timeless middle class tradition that should be celebrate. It's terrible, but just brilliant.

  • awful show. but the tune is iconic no less...

  • love the music find the actual broad cast so boring

  • This is a nice song & I'll never forget Billy Connolly's classic sketch about this being the British national anthem, but.....

    I DESPISE The Archers!!!

  • true

  • @stokefan21 personally i find it really annoying that if a comment receives enough votes down it's removed from view, but it can still be seen by clicking on "show". Even when I strongly disagree with someone's comment I don't think it should be removed from view. I think that it is a pointless & morally wrong exercise.
