I've only "shopped" Once Well Kinda I went to the petstore and they had a free hamster because he was really skiddish! But All my hamsters and guinea pigs were adopted! Also any pets you should adopt I feel sooo Bad When My petstore Has their dogs sheduled to come in! IT"S SOO SAD and they kept three guinea pigs in a 10 gallon aquarium soo i requested to take them out and play with them for a hour just so they had some joy in their lives! Its just SOOO sad!
@DrBieber229 If you're working with a rescue group, they will often be willing to meet you half way for the adoption. The rescue I worked with actually drove 2.5 hours to my house just so I could adopt my boys. They did this not only once, but twice! If you can find a rescue, definitely ask them about various kinds of meeting arrangements :)
I purchased my piggies from the pet store. I really did try before to adopt before I purchased them. But even though I didn't adopt I feel like I saved them from going to some random person's house and not knowing what would have happened to them. (Somebody was buying one to feed to a snake! I could have died!) I would LOVE to adopt though. (-: It's not many piggies in my area up for adoption still. But I totally agree adopt! (-:
@skinnypigs1 I adopted my piggie honey from a breeder now dont freak out! They didn't keep them in Crappy little cages and they didnt have like twenty they had one female and a male with certicacits and all that jazz very nice people they own the church down the street from my house, and my guinea pig was at the fair because I am in 4h and got a purple ribbon in showman ship and why because I watch a lot of stuff from you! hi,i love this idea to try and get the word out about adopting, and i was just wwondering if maybe you could mention my channel in one of your videos?????that would mean alot to me!!!
Very good video. In general I agree and while I'm not getting any more pigs from the pet shop I can't help but think that pet shop pigs deserve a good home too. They didn't chose where they were born. I've got one remaining pet shop girl, a couple of free ad girlies, a couple of piggies from guinea pig rescues, a couple from a breeder and two that were born in my house. I can see a difference in behaviour due to where they came from and even health problems in some of them.
@Zoebabies Oh I know! I am only trying to open up the idea of adopting to those who never thought about it before or didn't even know it existed for guinea pigs. It is not a black and white issue, they're many shades of grey!
I got my piggies from a pet shop but they were given to the pet shop because there mother had died a month later and the person didnt want to keep them any more so... i still brought mine from a pet store but the person mis treated them or neglected when things went wrong
@CanukPiggie The last 3 were, first 3 were not. That is why I was sharing the greatness of adopting. I just wanted to get it out there for those people who aren't aware of the benefits and have never considered it before.
I know there are many grey areas and it is just not ADOPT or SHOP. But why not let everyone know guinea pigs can be adopted too, just like cats and dogs.
GREAT video :) I bought Luna and Miika from a petstore, and I feel horrible about it :( From now on, I will DEFINITELY adopt. What do you feel about getting piggies from local classifieds? Like, from people who can't look after their piggles anymore?
I am definitely not a hater but guinea pigs in pet shops need homes too, sure you are kind of encouraging false breeding but if you just adopt, all the pet store piggies will be put down and if you just shop then all the rescue pigs will die. in my opinion, i dont think it really matters because both need good homes
@thepiggiepals Petstores won't get piggies in for selling if there isn't a demand is kind of the point behind adopting. They would stop selling them altogether if they can't make money off them.
i did do that i got 2 that were bros from this place were they rescue them from bad owners and ask people is they would plz give them homes so i tuck them but now i wat another and there just has not been guinea pigs to rescue so i goingto buy one from the petsmart place just this time cuz i really want another piggie
yes, i completely agree, but you live in america where their is probably much more g pig up for adoption, where i live, the g pigs in shelters seem to have the time of their lives. grass every day, warm houses, and people who care and handel them every day. where i live (england) it is far better to go to a responsible breeder than to a pet shop, and you are much more likely to get a healthy baby (as long as the breeder is responsible) other than that, i completely agree with adoption
@Guineapig321 Yes, that is true. You have to be careful. If someone has TONS of piggies up for rehoming and all are young, that is a giveaway that something is wrong. Most people rehoming are rehoming one piggy or two kept together. You can tell by pictures and talking to someone what is happening. It is good to investigate and ask lots of questions and visit them in person.
I found my guinea pig on the side of the street still alive and pregnant and i took her in and cared for her ever since on till she died leave me and her four 3week old babies some people are so evil it make me sick
I have three guinea pigs :) Bella which is white and has red sparkly eyes, Pumpkin which is white with brown spots and very tall and likes to hide, and my favorite... Buzz which is white with brown spots and he is the naughtiest and very scruffy, hes very short and a lil bit fat. His hair is not tidy :P and his eyes are cute!!! he is the youngest <3
Great video. I feel very blessed to have Alfie in my life. Even tho he is a little booger at times!!! He was an adoption, he was surrendered to a shelter as he was going to be snake food :( thank god the shelter took him in.
Thank you so much for shouting out the message of adoption loud and clear. I had the sense knocked into me many years ago by someone just telling me nicely when i was looking for a rabbit that there were sooooo many that needed homes that were in shelters and small rescues. yes, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, etc. I had no idea of the problem of over population of these pets until someone told me... bravo to you :)
I rescued or adopted 4 of my piggies from homes that were moving or were having problems. I got my first pig after my friend gave her to me after she was dropped off at a pet store the night before. She was fine, coming from a responsible Family owned Pet Store.
I'm going to rescue a neutered boy from my rescue! Amazing rescue!!!
When I went there last they had some rescues from a breeder that breed 1/2 skinny and 1/2 peruvian, poor things had a mix of hair spots and one girly had a head tilt :(
(also Dino the one with the neck injury is MUCH better!!)
My skinny pig I got from a breeder was well cared for sexed properly and clear of any diseases. She had good housing and wasn't in it for the money she usually has 1 or 2 litters a year form more than one pair.
Not all breeders are bad, but I do agree adopt don't shop
I got 2 pet store pigs one had mites and gave it to the other then the other got a hole in her neck (not from fighting or anything) and we spent over $100 out of my wallet and I'm 13. I spent a lot for my baby and I'm happy to hav
Um, who disliked this? Rude! I like many others didn't adopt my first two pigs. My third girl was an adoption and she is a little light to my life. I will never go back to buying pigs, or any kind of animal for that matter. I recently just adopted a puppy. :) I wish there were stores in my area that didn't sell pets, unfortunately all I have is petco and petsmart. :/
one thing i keep seeing in these videos is that it risk the lives of the sow , what about sow that get pregnant in the wild are they going to die to ? , i mean they are wild animals .
@iPodsAndGshocks Sure in the wild they may die from being pregnant, the point is why force your sow to have that risk of dieing when you don't need to breed them.
What person dislikes this wonderful kind of video?! We should all try to eliminate the uneducated and let ppl kno the correct way to own pigs!!!!!!! GEEZ!!!!!!
Its very hard in my area where i live as it is IMPOSSIBLE to adopt guinea pigs they never get guinea pigs in. and the nearest sheleter to me is 5 hours away :( so i have to shop. the pet store i get them from is the most healthyest , top rated , gold star pet store in new zealand so i know the guinea pigs are healthy and safe as they are vet checked and they never put unhealthy pigs up for sale.i would adopt if i could but i can't :( great video though i loved it <3
Neither of my guinea pigs were adopted, one was long haired showing "trash" because he is half any half Peruvian. The second one was in a reliable petstore in my town. The breed there own guinea pigs, instead of buying from mills, but he was the only male out of 3 litters, and they were worried about him, so I bought him
@GuineaPigFluff awesome! Another thing about adoption is that the people don't rush you like when I bought my hamsters, and they really seem to know the animal's personality.
