old video,poor review..have owned both , loved both and the fn2 is the better car...lower vtec change, smoother torque, better wet weather traction, better steering, better interior.... Absolutely love this show. Clarkson is hilarious. They've been replaying some episodes of TopGear on the telle recently...man, nowadays, the quality of the editing and some of the angles, effects they use for the reviews are miles ahead of what they were in 2003 or 2004. This car needs a 2.3 to 2.5 liter turbocharged engine like in a Subaru. 6 speed and all wheel drive. If Subaru can be built for around $30K, so could Honda. Without the right power, all you get is a car that has to be taken to 4000 rpm under normal driving. (and 8500 rpm to be quick?)

I have done milages over 200k with Golf mk IV ,and i have had NO reliable type issues. In fact i don't have a garage so my car has spent 10 years parked on road ,where all weather conditions (summer up to +43°C winter up to - 20°C) have had their way with my car.
Every time i wanted to go somewhere ,my car ignited and drove me from location A to location B.
So Honda is not special in that category at all. But they are good cars non the less...
Honda's performance hasn't necessarily gone downhill but it had changed. It has only gone downhill in accordance to VTEC die-hards like us. Honda now prefers having more punch in the low-end, while people that have stuck with Honda want the high-rpm screamers. The new Civic with the K24 is good with getting the car moving, and new fans of Honda will love that. It will only be a matter of time before Honda builds a product for both their fans of old and new.
@brandentang It's because of how ungodly heavy the Hondas have gotten. The old H-series and such made torque lower than B-series and D-series. Because the Accord/Prelude was heavier than the Civic.
The current Civic is a pig by Honda purist standards. That's my main problem with them. Although I love the K24
I LOVE VTEC, but I really think Honda isn't using what they can with the system to really generate power. To me, the K20A2 is a start. It's fierce and quick, but what about a 200 mph VTEC engine in an Si and a 4.0L V8 or something. Let's make the Si a REAL sports sedan. Not knocking the current car, but I wanna see Honda really go crazy once with this technology and really blow some of the top performance cars out of the water, while still having a sporty sedan.

Chassis can be problematic due to poor quality metal, as goes for all jap cars.

The drag race is a bit of a red herring, the new shape civic only has 740 miles or so on the clock and won't even be run in properly.
Look at real quarter mile times or 0-200 whatever you like really and you'll see that the new shape always comes out on top.
Top Gear tried a similar test years ago on a new golf gti and one with 60000 miles and the 60000 mile one by about 20 car lengths.

@mmutasim2 True. He's opinions changed unexpectedly, at times. Like when he test the Corvette ZR1 on America, he completely loving it, but then suddenly he disliking it when he test it on the track because of it's plasticky body, left steering wheel only, etc (when he actually said it already on USA).
But then again, some of his reviews are rubbish-and-nonsense, but most of his reviews makes sense. That's what i like about him - he's funny when he's not serious, but when he do, he's right :3

@moto46 Doesn't the beeping when you have the driver door open and the ignition key still in? Like i have a mazda and a honda and they both have that feature. And if you think of it, it's so that drivers don't leave their keys in the ignition and end up getting their car stolen. That's like the only dumb comment I've seen Clarkson make.

This car needs a 2.3 to 2.5 liter turbocharged engine like in a Subaru. 6 speed and all wheel drive. If Subaru can be built for around $30K, so could Honda. Without the right power, all you get is a car that has to be taken to 4000 rpm under normal driving. (and 8500 rpm to be quick?)

@TheMisnasty Ya know it's odd, I thought the same thing when it first came out, that it looks like a little rolled up ball of poopie, not to mention that here in Australia the standard Civic is a completely different car, but one day I started to like it just a little. It's a real shame how Honda had to go and drop the ball on this one. They of all people should know people expect the upmost quality from them, and this bullshit about being heavier and having a torsion bar rear just doesn't fly.

I have done milages over 200k with Golf mk IV ,and i have had NO reliable type issues. In fact i don't have a garage so my car has spent 10 years parked on road ,where all weather conditions (summer up to +43°C winter up to - 20°C) have had their way with my car.
Every time i wanted to go somewhere ,my car ignited and drove me from location A to location B.
So Honda is not special in that category at all. But they are good cars non the less...

Honda's performance hasn't necessarily gone downhill but it had changed. It has only gone downhill in accordance to VTEC die-hards like us. Honda now prefers having more punch in the low-end, while people that have stuck with Honda want the high-rpm screamers. The new Civic with the K24 is good with getting the car moving, and new fans of Honda will love that. It will only be a matter of time before Honda builds a product for both their fans of old and new.

@brandentang It's because of how ungodly heavy the Hondas have gotten. The old H-series and such made torque lower than B-series and D-series. Because the Accord/Prelude was heavier than the Civic.
The current Civic is a pig by Honda purist standards. That's my main problem with them. Although I love the K24

I LOVE VTEC, but I really think Honda isn't using what they can with the system to really generate power. To me, the K20A2 is a start. It's fierce and quick, but what about a 200 mph VTEC engine in an Si and a 4.0L V8 or something. Let's make the Si a REAL sports sedan. Not knocking the current car, but I wanna see Honda really go crazy once with this technology and really blow some of the top performance cars out of the water, while still having a sporty sedan.

Because I work in for a company with a very large number of employees and many of them drive crap box Honda's and I have seen first hand how junky they are. Major electrical problems, paint problems, chassis problems, engine problems.
Without knowing anything anything about you or the year and model of your Honda, I would be it's safe to say that you've replaced the power window switch assembly on the drivers door of your car at least once.
It's not a cheap part is it? lol

@Dogurasu My del sol came from Japan and I imported it myself. I have NEVER had a problem with it electrically or mechanically and it is 19 years old. Engine problems? the b16a is one of the most reliable engines of all time, they never had one back. you are either your average stupid arrogant american who thinks they know everything or know nothing about honda's, pick one. Chassis can be problematic due to poor quality metal, as goes for all jap cars.
