  • You can see the reverence and joy Daltrey brings to his performance. And JB is simply amazing as always. ♫

  • @tommyboo21 - thanks for info.

  • Great job by Daltrey of holding back. If he'd wanted to he could have knocked the roof off. The restraint adds to the taughtness of the performance.

  • James a pickin fool God bless you Hasn"t been a picker like hime since.

  • This is from August 1987, marking the tenth anniversary of Elvis' death. Also on the show were Kim Wilde, Boy George, Kiki Dee, Meat loaf, Ruby Turner, Carl Perkins, Ben E King, Dave Edmunds, Elkie Brookes, and many others. The long production was called Love Me Tender.

  • It doesn't get much better than this

Thanks for all the inspiration, JB!!

  • It doesn't get much better than this!

  • Nice original Gibson everly brothers Roger is playing too!

  • Love James Burton. Also love Daltrey and The Who,awesome.

  • Love James Burton.

  • the same guitar James used at The Aloha Special from hawaii! very nice!°

  • what a great song

  • It must be tough being a musician/ singer . You get together with a bunch of people for a tribute/party/ good time and a bunch of dopes who know nothing start ripping you apart. I hope that video of me singing Blue Christmas doesn't make it to you tube. Then again that would give you something to criticize.

  • Daltrey toned it down here so that Burton's fantastic pickings were dominant. Daltrey's a class act and an Elvis fan.

Yes, it's the TCB Band, minus John Wilkinson and Charlie Hodge. More than 30 years later, these musicians can't get it out of their systems. Can you blame them?

  • Yes it is hard working Ronnie Tutt..

  • @feverperth1That's him big Ron all the way the way from Dallas Texas and as Elvis once said"Glenn .D Hardin, what knd of a name is that D Hardin?" LOL

    Also Jerry Scheff on Bass.

  • @195477 The D is his middle name :)

  • @OfficialRobbieMason Thank you I know.

It was just a joke Elvis made as if D.Hardin was all one word.

I think he used to play with Buddy Hollys crickets .

All these people are still playing James Burton must be about 70 now what a legend,he has played with loads over the years and put Springsteen in the shade when they played together.

  • @195477 yeah he DESTROYED bruce on the guitar duel :D

  • james burton makes me proud to live in louisiana

  • I like Roger in this. Right FEEL straight outta the gate.

  • pretty good - check out chet playing this

  • Is that Elvis and Jerry Garcia old drummer drumming....Ron Tutt?

  • @sharegrace

Well,it looks like Ronnie Tutt, not sure though.

But it is Glen D.Hardin on Piano who used to work with Elvis.

    All the best

    Chimbo

    Chimbo`s Revival

  • @Chimbo65

Thanks I dont think that is Ron Tutt on drums

  • damn

  • THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME thumbs up from me :)

  • roger didn't bring his A game. a bit weak.

  • @canadianroot He's mimicking Elvis, who sang this song kind of subdued.

  • Burton - a legend.

  • Quite right, Enforcer! Tell all them dumbasses to shut up! This is a Legend giving homage to a Legend, just be grateful for this ocasion. Tickets for this show will not be on sale tomorrow. Don't be a sore looser, just enjoy the best Rock N' Roll has to offer, no matter of it's configuration, DAMMIT MAN! Don't piss & moan here, go see some disco page. Right here, WE ROCK, Fuck Off Bitch-JW

  • There is always some damned idiot on here finding something wrong with things like this.Roger did a fantastic job.And James Burton is one of the best guitar players that ever lived.PERIOD! This is a tribute not someone trying to compete with the original!

  • @enforcer4444 They always wish they were as talented as these guys who have more talents in their pinkies then they'll ever have. Its a jealousy thing!!!

  • Ronnie Tutt on drums super !!!

  • your a dumb ass.look at the best music people and take a look how much James is respected.James Burton was and is guitar.

He is still the hottest cat on the scene."

    Guitar World Magazine, 1984

"James Burton was one of my earliest guitar influences. The Rick Nelson stuff... things like 'Believe What You Say'... is just mind boggling". John Fogerty, GP Magazine, 1986

"He's the best guitar player there is." John Denver, 1990

  • "He's insprired guitarists as diverse as Hank Marvin and Albert Lee. He's played with musicians from Rick Nelson to Emmylou Harris and from Elvis Presley to Elvis Costello. He is JAMES BURTON, surely the original guitar heroes' guitar hero." Guitarist Magazine, England January, 1992

  • You forgot your crappy opinion!

  • H ha ,your really pissing people off with that comment.

  • I know, but theres the right way of saying you don't like something and there's the wrong way.

  • Hat's off to the BBC producer and camera man for getting a closeup shot of JB's lethal right hand. I'll bet one of them is a guitarist.

  • Most extraordinary! Those BBC types usually go for a shot of the drummer or ANYBODY but the guitarist during a solo.

  • Comment removed

  • Amen to that, brother!

  • James Burton one of the most great guitarist of Rock n Roll! I tell you for sure! And the King could be wrong!

  • pole smoker

  • james burton tele great guitar

  • Nice mullet!

  • Everybody had a mullet back in the day.

  • I didn't!

  • Killer, forgot about this vid.. nice!

  • Roger is perfect, unique, incomparable.

He is the best of all time.

  • The strongest voice of all time

  • I was talking about Roger Daltrys vocals.James Burton is a legend.

  • Evidently you havent heard of Elvis, rockin59. Cant beat chickin pickin. KEEP IT UP JAMES!

  • A great tribute! Roger sure could have really belted out this song but he was being respectful and hey maybe a little nervous. Elvis I think would be proud especially if the King ever went to a show of the Who I think he would have enjoyed The Who! Elvis number 1 singer and Daltrey is number 2 of my favorite singers! The Who Rocks and great to see they still do a tribute to Elvis. Look up Real Good Looking Boy by The Who! By the way the boys are in their 60's now and look like their 45yrs old!

  • comparing this singer/player with that one- it's useless. Just enjoy who you are seeing

  • Also saw The Who in 1971-best show I've ever attended. Roger isn't quite at full strength here-he's still one of the best vocalists to grace a stage

  • yeah, especially his ballads. Ol' Golden Throat Daltrey. Scared the hell out of Bing Crosby :) LMAO

  • I saw the Who in 1971, and the Won't Get Fooled Again scream was the loudest sound I've ever heard in my life, including a multitude of overhead jet airplanes. To be dissing Roger's voice is pure ignorance.

  • i completely agree... townshend might have written the songs, but the who would be nothing without daltrey

  • (ctd. from prev. post) Because of the nature of their voices, as Roger is having difficulty singing "Mystery Train" in this video, Elvis would most certainly have trouble singing much of The Who's songs. For the record, I'm a fan of both Roger AND Elvis.

  • Let's put this into perspective. By the time this was filmed Roger didn't have the stuff he had in "the old days." Without question he is one of the greatest rock/pop singers ever. Unfortunately he peaked in the early '70s. He certainly is not Elvis by any means. I am probably the biggest Pete Townshend and Who fan on the planet, but even P.T. said he was influenced by James Burton. No doubt about it: James Burton is a "Master of the Telecaster," and absolutely one of THE greats!

  • roger looks like Dr. cox from scrubs. I had lunch with James Burton on christmas day

  • tcb,are still rockin,but roger sorry mate.

  • tcb rocks...but this vocal...just terrible..he has no voice to fit to this song to..

  • This is actually really good for Roger live, usually he is much worse than this

  • Go Roger !!!Burton as good as Townshend? Come on get real .

  • Yes James Burton by 4 laps around Townsend. And Elvis by 150 laps around Roger Daltry.

Sorry man.. you cant beat Elvis and Burton. It didnt happen, isnt happening, and never will happen.

  • That man has NO voice!!

  • Greats!! (^^)/

  • grande james è il migliore del resto è stato anche chitarrista di jerry lee lewis

  • Ma su TMC ci giravano queste cose spettacolari??'

Oggi in TV ci gira solo merda, tipo Tatangelo e Pausini..

  • james you are great...tcb always ...tcbthunder c.m.

  • je le préfere dans Highlander...ET vive J Burton le roi des "Riff"

  • The stories that 68 Paisley Tele could tell!!!

  • Roger really sounds good here. Haven't heard him sing such fun basic rock since the sixties.

  • I'd comment if I could get my jaw off the ground!!There is no other like JB.

  • James Burton, without doubt one of the true guitar greats...Elvis chose him to be his guitarist and also pick the rest of the musicians when he started touring again in the late 60's, quite a compliment from the KING

  • @jmg4645 Ever seen Scotty Moore? I have- FANTASTIC!!!

  • @jmg4645 I am in total agreement ....JUST AMAZING

  • ludwigking, yes it is. Glen Hardin on piano and Jerry Scheff on double bass.

  • Is that Ron Tutt on drums?

  • think that might be glen hardin on piano too

  • awesome! James is great! and Roger does a great job as well.

  • uh, cashing in? What would truly be sad is if the song died along with the original performers. This tune deserves to be played on a live circuit, and here we have a group of musicians who are undoubtedly very qualified to do so. Elvis or Bill Black, obviously, cannot play it for us.

  • Sure The Who were influence by early Rock n Roll but The Who invented Hard Rock. They were the first to take Rock n Roll to another level after The Beatles changed the music in 1963.

  • weird to see Roger Daltrey sing a rockabilly cassic.

  • Thank God there is a good video history of James Burton's career from Ricky Nelson, Shindig and the Elvis touring days. This guy had few peers among studio musicians and that is saying a lot. Just trying to educate the uninitiated.

  • My favourite guitarist of all times played for Gram Parson's, my favourite country artist. He even yells out "pick it for me James" similar to Elvis, "play it James".I saw him as a child play years for Ricky Nelson on t.v. but even the Jordanaires didn't grab my attention let alone guitarist.

  • These people are not "cashing in" on Elvis or attempting to achieve greatness at the end of their careers. Roger Daltry and James Burton have achieved it all; their respective place in British waive, Mod, early Rock n Roll,Country etc. is etched in stone and assured. Aspiring guitarists will be watching JB licks from the Ozzie & Harriet show as long as guitars are made. He was a child prodigy. Elvis was quite happy when James Burton agreed to go on the road with him.

  • hirdy6, you don't know what youre talking about, James Burton is not cashing on his involement with Elvis! He's just a great guitarist that plays this song. He couldn't help it that Elvis died.

  • Daltry does a great job in his own style not trying to immitate elvis ,read a comment on here about james burton, pete townsend is a legend but burton is far superor maybee the greatest sesion guitarist

  • Someone is mad if he/she compares this man with the KING. What an insult. Elvis is out of this world, indescribably great, the ultimate.

  • daltry the greatest singer? please

  • Daltrey is THE greatest rocksinger ever...OF course you have got to give Elvis credit for doing what he has done but his voice ain't close to Roger when he is at his best...Daltrey really holds back in this song

  • Get a lot of this on youtube ,one minute Jerry Lee Lewis is king and is better, next Meatloaf sings Jailhouse Rock better, next Daltrey is better singer etc

  • Daltrey a better rock singer than Elvis,Take a pill, pull the curtains and have a lay down. It will be better in the morning!!!!Next you will say Townsend,Moon and the Ox were better than Burton, Tutt,Hardin andJerry Scheff, Might as well pull Scotty Moore in as well. Sleep Well?????

  • pianist is Glen D. Hardin-like all the other members of the TCB band he was hired directly by James Burton who was hired by Elvis in 1969.

  • hey whos the pianist, i seen him on elvis videos?

  • horses for courses. I'm a big Elvis fan but I really enjoyed this version as well. It helps to have Elvis great band.

  • Daltry kicks ass...Listen to a WHO album.

    That said...

What a band! It's cool to see Jerry Scheff playing upright bass! And James Burton c'mon! Master of the Telecaster! My heroes all of them....

    Except Daltry he sucks.

    (morons)

  • I think the guy rocks, its one of the most difficult elvis songs, you see how he need to change depending on the music,,,,,great singer

  • a voice of reason in an otherwise usual cloud of youtube stupidity

  • Fantastic band, but the singer...... very bad

  • what?????????? the singers terrible wow!

  • I'm sorry all you guys seem to think Daltry is in the same league as Elvis. I'd like to see ANYONE fill a room (18,600)thiry years AFTER his death, like the Elvis show did in Memphis in August. NO ONE Else on the planet could do that.

Say what you want...There was Elvis...then there's everyone else. Case Closed.

And Daltry is STILL weak...always was...Needed lots of reverb/distortion, etc. to "sound" strong. Notice how weak his voice is, here, without it.

  • You do not know anything about music/music production clearly. His voice is so so differant to Elvis, and Elvis wasnt the best of singers, he was just a HUGE phenomenon. Daltrey did not use loads of effects on his voice, on here there is but he is not trying to copy elvis. Learn before you speak. And off the record Daltrey is a far better rock singer than Elvis.

  • I used to be a recording engineer. What did you used to be? You're right...Daltry's voice IS different. It's weaker. Doesn't have the quality. Can't sing the variety Elvis did. This video's about parading

rock stars up to help draw THOSE stars viewers to an Elvis show, nothing more.

The weakest thing in this video is Daltry.

That's all I have to say. You guys can babble on.

  • Mate I AM a producer, so yes I have a fair idea, engineer, mate you have no idea...and before you ask I work for Sony, left EMI after 6 years of work. Be quiet and YOU can babble on.

  • you should check out MY vid of Elvis doing this song cause hes great on it. but if you want to hear a real grunge voice listen to elvis in 1969 .he blows Roger Daltrey to hell. especially when elvis sings mystery train/tiger man in 1969. dont get me wrong though Roger Daltrey is a great singer but he will never be a versitile as Elvis was.

  • Needed reverb and distortion to sound strong? Are you kidding me??? Roger never used any effects on his live vocals. Have you ever heard of a little song called "Won't Get Fooled Again"?

  • Right on!

  • Awesome

  • James and Glen are SO on the mark!...But compared to Elvis...Daltry is weak! Sorry Roger, but you're no Elvis.

  • Yeah, and let's see Elvis tackle Won't Get Fooled Again or My Generation. Daltrey looks pretty good for his age (even today, at 63) - much better than Elvis looked at 42!

  • He's not trying to be Elvis. He's paying homage to a hero of his. Roger is an icon himself. He has nothing to prove.

  • You're exactly right.

  • And Elvis is no Junior Parker!

  • Great to see the TCB boys in action. James Burton we need more of you on youtube. We enjoy your guitar talent. Keep it up.

  • wow! Thats sooo cool!!!!!
