The dubstep that you're referring to has much more in common with electro (and should be called robostep or electrostep IMO). Real techno was started in Detroit by Carl Craig and the like. Check out Basic Channel, Efdemin, Plastikman for that Berlin sound, or SCB (Scuba), Andy Stott, Shed, for a more dubstep/techno crossover. Million miles away from brostep.
