Since I was born in 1991 I have been on a musical journey trying to find the music for me and I am very ashamed of some of my previous favorites!
I went from Westlife to Bomfunk MC's to Eminem to Snoop Dogg to Usher, then all of a sudden to System of a Down and Metal-Music, which I had never heard before and finally Buckethead after hearing the song "We Are One".
For 5-6 years Buckethead has been my favorite and he will always be...THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT!!!!!!
I hate it how all of you compare Slash and Buckethead. Both of them are great and they're my favorite guitarists. TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT STYLES, people, is what those two have. You can't compare a car to a boat, can you? Exactly, they're two different things. NOW, get your headphones back on and listen to the masterpiece :P
No, not at all :) I've counted my "played" times on my iTunes list from all buckthead songs, I"ve been listening over 8000 hours in about 1,5 years (on this computer). That's from my iTunes only.
You know I like Buckethead not just because of his soulful music and the pure beauty he pulls out of every guitar he ever touches but because I hate fried chicken.
No seriously I'm ok with eating chicken period but too much of their lives are wasted on the culmination of greasy foulness that is fried chicken, that stuff literally makes me yak.
I hate the whole slash/buckethead argument. They are both good guitarrists. But if you have any sense of musical knowledge and criteria Buckethead is a better guitarrist (quicker, more orignal, and plays way more styles), besides being a more creative composer and am pretty sure he is able to play more instruments than slash...
Knowing that Buckethead has over 30 albums of material and that I've probably heard less than 5 percent of it depresses me, all his music is so good. Truely one of the most underrated musicians in the world.
@ EVERYONE....who cares how "fast" someone can shred, if they can't do it consistently...I saw Bucket a few years ago in my hometown, and I'll tell you, he's as good live as he is recorded...LONG LIVE THE BUCKET!
definitly one of my top 5 fav buckethead songs of all time! the solo is amazing! it almost sounds like jets are flying over head or something. very fuckn intense!
I dunno why but I always imagine Buckethead sort of laying still deep in the ocean being pulled down during the super calm part, like he's drowning but he's just kinda letting it happen, then when the hard part hits i imagine him stepping out of the water slowly step by step pissed as shit and just melting everyone's face off
You guys sound like idiots arguing who's better when you've both only been playing for a year. That's nothing.
And you can't compare Buckethead and Slash. They're different. Slash is used in a band setting and Buckethead's main thing is his solo work. Buckethead can't play Slash songs as well as Slash can and Slash can't play Buckethead as well as Buckethead can. Artists don't copy from other guitarists, they make their own style, which is what they both did.
thebrilliantsunchips u r a fucking faggot no buckethead is better than slash and im better than u i guarentee it i've been playing for 8 months and night of the slunk was the 3rd song i learned im working on the mystical potatohead groove thing now and i know u cant play tht so kiss my ass dickmouth
people make covers of soothsayer and nottingham lace all day. some are shitty but others are perfect and by kids who are only 18 or so! slash has been playing for 30 years! thats twice as long as most people who do perfect covers have been alive. Slash, and every other guitarist in the world whos in a well known band can play any song perfect without a doubt. especially when they got 30 years experience!
You fail. I'd like to see slash play "no boundaries". Lets see him play notingham lace well. He can't. It's also not about what you can play, it's what you make. Slash has put in about 1% originally, 99% gimik. Anyone can bend a note as he does in every solo.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Just cuz slash doesnt write shred doesnt mean he cant play it... im 16 ive been playing guitar for 1 year and i can play Night of the Slunk (live)... you dont think slash who has been playing for 30 years can play a buckethead solo? you people are ignorant...
First of all Night of the Slunk is pretty easy. I honestly don't believe Slash can play most if any of Buckethead's extreme solos. But that's besides the point, I don't think he could actually make one as great as Bucket's.
you are probably a guitar noob slash can't play shred let alone play decent guitar buckethead is on the 8th place in the shredders list slash isn't even in it
thats cuz slash doesnt write shred which wouldnt put him on the list... he and every other guitarist who is on the radio can shred just as well as buckethead. doesnt mean he can write it but no professional guitarist would have trouble playing a buckethead solo but writting one i assume would be difficult even for the pros. and i bet im a hell of alot better of a guitarist than any of you
If you're such a good guitar player than why not put a video of yourself on Youtube and let us decide? It's easy to brag anonymously, how about you back it up?
im not calling him better because bucket is clearly faster but dont doubt anyone. theyre professionals for a reason and your not a professional for a reason. slash and les paul and every other professional guitarist can shred,
the main reason that professional guitarists become so is because they get lucky; it's mainly about being in the right place at the right time.
besides, a lot of my favorite buckethead songs don't even have fast solos and stuff like that. he's simply a great musician. in my opinion he's both a better musician and guitarist than slash.
It's not about speed. Slash isn't shred and Buckethead is. Buckethead can play faster than Slash, but that's only one of many aspects of guitar playing.
If either Slash or Buckethead heard you guys arguing like this, they'd tell you the same thing I said. Different styles of music call for different skills. Buckethead isn't better than Slash, and Slash isn't better than Buckethead. Each have a distinct style and they both bring something to the table.
i completely agree. that other dude was going on about how anyone can shred like buckethead (or something like that), which i think is bullshit. i just pointed out that buckethead can play faster to make that point.
but i also pointed out that a lot of my favorite buckethead songs dont have fast stuff and that i just prefer his style.
they're both excellent guitarists, but to each their own. however, buckethead is definitely superior in terms of technical skill.
Nonsense. You cannot compare two great guitarist who both have different and yet legendary music behind them. And You cannot say that Slash has only 1% originality , hence Your statement is worthless and points out nothing. You try to make song like sweet child of mine.. solo in november rain and such. They both are great guitarist who wrote different music.
@jonsploder its not about whos better, its about how good the music is, everyone gets so caught up in whos better, but the reality is, slash makes badass music, and so does buckethead, ITS ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC!!!!!!!!
@jonsploder Slash is actually a very good song writer, as well as showman... Buckethead definately as better playing ability, but that doesn't mean he's better than Slash all together. Without Slash millions would've never been Gn'R fans which would've prevented their influences on the newer virtuoso and then all(literally rather than the now figuratively) all we would be able to listen to on air is rap and death metal, no happy medium...
1st of all slash even couldnt write these kinda songs, second he can only dream to play it SLASH IS A DAMN OVERRATED BLUES GUITARIST!!! JUST GET IT PEOPLE i dont hate slash but its just truth he doesnt have much technique
Like i said to the other guy... theres a difference between writing, what kind of music u like, and being able to play songs. buckethead obviously doesnt have an established genre of music. he plays what ever the hell he wants and we love it. but you gotta remember buckethead is a solo artist. he has no singer to slow him down. All guitarists who write any kind of music and are known for it are well known for a reason. They are amazingly good. People need to realise that.
he has songs with a singer mate... check out some songs with serj tankian, and btw... i will still say slash is fukkin overrated, hes only famous because paradise city, sweet child o' mine and enstranged... I dont think he could do better as that...
i know he has a singer. almost his whole enter chicken album is with guest singers. i didnt say that he didnt. Slash is currently an over rated COMPOSER. since hes on guitar hero they instantly think slash is a better solo than eruption or laughing gas. thats cuz rap loving bitches dont know a solo. but every famous guitaris can play just about anything. especially whn youve been playing guitar for 30 years. Hes writing a solo album. when that comes out tell me he cant write or play.
I really hate to drag the whole Slash vs Buckethead discussion into this but this solo is exactly what slash fans need to see when pointing out that Slash can play with emotion in fewer notes than Buckethead's shredding, there's virtually no shredding in this solo
lol yep most people that cry waaa he doesn't play with emotion dont even know what they are talking about. for example changing from major to minor key..... using the modes what most people consider emotion is crying sustaining notes which can be done with simple bends and by using picking dynamics "hitting the string harder" It takes less talent to play emotional than to play technical I always hated Guns N Posers since the 80's lol
personally i like them both and they are both awesome. you got a point though the original gnr fans seem to have a problem with buckethead. i like them both. slash solos get me pumped but so does buckethead. i bet slash could play bucketheads stuff. what i would really like to see is them playing together. that would be epic.
i know everyone says stuff like what im about to say but but listen to soothsayer... see the solos theres no way slash could play them. after a good while ye he could learn them but they wouldnt be fluent or anything.. and since hes a blues guitarist hed be adding his own bits in and it would sound terrible. but ye i do like them both n all but buckethead could rip slash into pieces man. thats fact. as that guy said see some of his harder stuff? slash could only dream of playin that shit.
Theres a huge difference between Composing and playing ability.Speed is limited by other band members and style. you cant play at 300 beats per minute while your singer is singing 20 words a minute. solos have to go with lyrics and tempo.Buckethead has no limits to his composing because he doesnt have a singer.Slash had one of the jerkyest singers in history. there are limitations to playing in a band and you gotta realise slash isnt going for super speed hes going for a well flowing song.
it doesnt flow mate it are OUT OF TUNE bends... and btw u shouldnt put everything of on the singer... the singer can make some faster songs too but they wont cus they cant and 2nd fast songs are just not GNR style cus when they made there first song they made a deal that they would never play something fast... slash wasn't able.
im not putting it on the singer. read my first post. if you could read english it makes perfect sense. your right about the GNR style. you dont go from SCOM to a soothsayer solo. doesnt work. i said that bands are limited by genre. look at Bon Jovi for instace. when they went western at first they lost alot of popularity, now people love it. but its not GNR's style. just cuz he doesnt write fast doesnt mean hes not good cuz hes a pro for a reason. HES REALLY GOOD! limited by Genre and Vocals.
ye, but do you really think slash can play some of the reacl technical parts of some buckie songs? I really don't hate slash but i just hate the people (not you) who say that hes one of the best guitarist ever... and hes just not if u look at his technique
i hate when people who only know songs from guitar hero say slash is the best ever, I have no doubt that buckethead is a better guitarist but i have no doubt that slash can play bucketheads stuff. if 16 year olds can play buckethead stuff i guarentee slash can play it. just cuz he doesnt write like crazy doesnt mean he cant play crazy. i see what you mean though. slash hasnt written any 300bpm solos but i have no doubt he can play them
You say, "solos have to go with lyrics and tempo." By definition a solo has no lyrics. Also, tempo has nothing to do with rhythmic density A beat at any tempo can be infinitely subdivided. I can play as many notes per beat as I am capable of regardless of tempo.
@StopRunningKid Yeah. I had picked it out before the album came out and that was supposed to be the name of the album at the time. The song is pretty cool though so it worked out.
@tofurkey0 ... So you're definitely telling us all that you take it up the ass & are as queer as the annual San Fransisco gay day parade - RIGHT!?!
Cuz I mean with YOU telling us all of how your "dick gets harder than a brick" at what another DUDE is doing, it's obvious that the old 'Buckethead' really makes YOU feel EXTRA tingly between your legs & just SUPER GAY & wet ALL OVER!!!
Well Pinky-Boy, I'll let you get back to your Buckethead center fold posters & your jumbo jar of Vasiline

I think it's a waste of PERFECT backing chords. I love the song, but he wastes alot of the solo on cheap bends. I love it all the same, but not one of his best solos . One of the better songs on the album, though. Just saw the guy two weeks ago and Ghost Host melted my face off!!!!
I agree w/ u Bucketheadandtoolftw, Buckethead is very well one of the best guitarists today, if not of all time. He's done so many records that have pierced so many genres of music, it has many including me wondering what he could possibly be schemeing next? I would hope something more along the lines of ROCK + FUNK + SOUL + METAL + SHREDDING + AVANT GARDE + GENIUS (On 5 CD's!!!) :P

TheBrilliantSunchips 2 years ago
it doesnt flow mate it are OUT OF TUNE bends... and btw u shouldnt put everything of on the singer... the singer can make some faster songs too but they wont cus they cant and 2nd fast songs are just not GNR style cus when they made there first song they made a deal that they would never play something fast... slash wasn't able.
videomakertje 2 years ago
im not putting it on the singer. read my first post. if you could read english it makes perfect sense. your right about the GNR style. you dont go from SCOM to a soothsayer solo. doesnt work. i said that bands are limited by genre. look at Bon Jovi for instace. when they went western at first they lost alot of popularity, now people love it. but its not GNR's style. just cuz he doesnt write fast doesnt mean hes not good cuz hes a pro for a reason. HES REALLY GOOD! limited by Genre and Vocals.

ye, but do you really think slash can play some of the reacl technical parts of some buckie songs? I really don't hate slash but i just hate the people (not you) who say that hes one of the best guitarist ever... and hes just not if u look at his technique
videomakertje 2 years ago
i hate when people who only know songs from guitar hero say slash is the best ever, I have no doubt that buckethead is a better guitarist but i have no doubt that slash can play bucketheads stuff. if 16 year olds can play buckethead stuff i guarentee slash can play it. just cuz he doesnt write like crazy doesnt mean he cant play crazy. i see what you mean though. slash hasnt written any 300bpm solos but i have no doubt he can play them

You say, "solos have to go with lyrics and tempo." By definition a solo has no lyrics. Also, tempo has nothing to do with rhythmic density A beat at any tempo can be infinitely subdivided. I can play as many notes per beat as I am capable of regardless of tempo.

@crawlthruknives Correct on that my friend.

@crawlthruknives Your name is the name of that one In Flames song, right? Or is it just a coincidence that that's your name?
StopRunningKid 1 year ago
@StopRunningKid Yeah. I had picked it out before the album came out and that was supposed to be the name of the album at the time. The song is pretty cool though so it worked out.

This has one of the most saddest riffs I've ever heard right before the solo. With the most emotional solo ever! This is and Awesome song!

@kcfrules Sounds like SOMEONE'S insecure about themselves.

@notaseasyasitlooks ... Well if the "SOMEONE" you're referring to is me... then, NO I'm not insecure at all I'm having a great time.
BUT, if the "SOMEONE" you are referring to is YOU, then I'd think that by all means you should definitely look into some self exploratory analysis!?

I think it's a waste of PERFECT backing chords. I love the song, but he wastes alot of the solo on cheap bends. I love it all the same, but not one of his best solos . One of the better songs on the album, though. Just saw the guy two weeks ago and Ghost Host melted my face off!!!!
glacier1982 3 years ago
yeah ghost host is nice too
i really like this solo (cherckerboard) :)
but of course he made some better ones, for my feeling

nice song. not best of buckethead
