  • More likely then not, the pigs died of smoke inhalation long before the fire reached them. Shit happens. If you are someone who eats meat, then you obviously have no problem in eating the meat, then you shouldn't piss and moan about how they're raised and kept.

  • out here in utah we had 3 pig barns burn. no pigs survived. not sure how many were in there

  • they almosty bit through the gate close but no cigar man that must of been a slo burn inhalingfire fusing there lungs shut while every molecule in there body was scraiming P A I N

  • you people are idiots... once peta puts people to work with a full time job they can start saying something.. save the bull its a tragic accident key word accident. No one intends for these sows and piglets to get injured nor do the people that work in the barns harm the animals.

  • jesus christ..... this cannot be happening.... cut out meat - dont encourage this awful industry.

  • BARN FIRES IN CANADA - 2010

(Over 116,000 animals have burned alive as of November 2, 2010)

Since barn fire in Pansy, MB:

    August 11, 2010

Barn fire in Ontario kills 600 pigs

    October 30, 2010

5,600 egg-laying hens burn alive in Ontario

  • No humans were in the building - they were out on lunch.

It's amazing that most of the pigs were rescued in your Iowa barn. Here, there's no effort to remove the pigs at all. Almost all of our pig barn fires have 100% mortality.

  • what i want to know is, were any humans in the building at the time? if so are they ok? i used to work in a hog barn here in iowa and the roof collapsed during the winter of 09-10 because of all the weight from the snow that had piled up during the snowstorms luckily the collapse was only covering an area in a breeding area 20 crates long by 8 crates wide. almost all of the pigs were rescued and no one was in the area so nobody was hurt.

  • UPDATE:

    June 29, 2010

Another pig barn fire in Manitoba, 200 sows in Pansy burned alive

  • It was not appropriate for the pigs to die like this. :(

  • @Bethsheeba7 well you cant exactly predict when these fires will happen

  • What isn't appropriate?

The fact that Canadians need to know what is happening to animals and can therefore help them?

    Why shouldn't we know?

  • flag this people. not appropriate.

  • My God. One can only hope that these poor animals died from smoke inhalation rather than the flames.

Are the fire departments listing the causes of these fires?
