Really, it doesn't have more recoil. The thompson shoots a pistol cartridge and weighs 11 pounds. And the most widely used model, the model 1928A1, had a Cutts compensator mounted on it, which reduces recoil even more. Interestingly, the compensator was dropped on later models, which probably means that it didn't have enough recoil to justify the use of a compensator. Also, the mp-40 weighed 8 pounds, 3 pounds less than the thompson.

Where are you getting this idea that the mp-40 is more accurate in real life? You may say that the thompson is chambered in a larger caliber which increases recoil, but lets not forget that both the .45ACP and the 9mm luger are both pistol cartridges. And also higher recoil isn't a factor because the thompson weighs in at a hefty eleven pounds. The thompson also has a fixed wooden stock, unlike the flimsy folding stock of the mp-40. But I do agree that the mp-40 is way overpowered in CODWaW.
