Does the midi port mean you can plug in a synth and sequence it, and stuff like that? I presume the in-built synth sounds wouldn't exactly be spectacular...
The visual aspect of this is not for hi-res bragging rights, just functions as part of the operation. You use this by itself or connected to other midi gear. When linked to simple analog synth boxes, this thing can really blow your mind. It really could be just a toy, but anyone with a tiny bit of creativity will use this as any other instrument. Load more samples (SD card) and you've got something as unique as your DNA. Not a simple gizmo, a real musical device here :)
Seems like a more interactive version of the Rm1x. Doesn't seem practical for most music applications, but looks like you could spend a fun evening with this and a nice bag of weed.
This could be a serious thing IF someone would use it professionally for e.g. live shows.
Unfortunately it seems only sequencing noobs or "omfg im gonna review&ebay it" morons got some of these yet to show off some shiny bling toy! Can't wait to see producing DJs play their arrangements live on that thing instead from vinyls/prerecorded audiofiles or cds!
it would be kinda anoying if u were sitting nxt to a person a plane ans they had one lol but i still lik it i would just be the person hows anoying the other guy
£599, forget it, get logic instead. would get bored of this after a couple of days. Great review, wanted to see more of your man playing with it, a demo would have been nice.
maybe i'm wrong, but you use this thing to 'sequence' samples that you put into it (up to 48), allowing you to create loops etc... programmes like logic, cubase, ableton live, allow you to do all of that plus A LOT more, and they all cost less than the tenori-on. right?
I used to be a professional DJ and this is VERY groundbreaking HOWEVER, it is still quite rudimentary and I myself can already visualize a much better and more advanced version that is also more ergonomic and user friendly.
screw all this stuff like this-- the Manikin Schrittmacher is the first and last word in this stuff--- this thing is just sexy, thats it ---- Schrittmacher well blow your mind --- the Schrittmacher beats this thing in the happy accident department too............
Terrific! Sounds very Japanese, but cool that you can load your own samples to give it your own sound (or make it sound even more Japanese if you like I suppose).
as someone who comes to music just wanted to get music down and then be able to get lost in it this is like a dream come true. Sure all the muso's will hate it but thats because they want music to be 'work' not play or fun. i get mine at the weekend and cannot wait to load my samples and start playing. I have always 'seen' music in my head as well as heard it so i can totally get where this is coming from awesome setp to the future
If it was like 1/3 the price and they mass produced it I would get one. Seems like a fun instrument you can pick up and play without much programming etc.
what about the fact that is DOES NOT even PLAY IN TIME :)
add more than 5 layers and it SLOWS DOWN.
pretty useless.

i don't understan why someone should use it?
the visual kinda siynestesic stuff could be usable, but the resolution is low, so i don't understand it.

Logic is a sequencer. This is a controller. Do you even know what you're talking about?

Tenori-On has simply ever been depicted as an alternative to a sequencer. It's a creative tool, no more, no less.
MomoTheBellyDancer 3 years ago
They cost less than a good guitar, but a guitar can't create as many sounds as a computer either.
It's about fun.

fruity loops is definatly superior to that thing :) i dont understand why massacre1010 is getting thumbs down.

do they sell this in utah???
Gyrospring 3 years ago
..even if its only a major software update. Nick's already touched on the lack of realyl juicy stuff, namely:-
No pitch bend or mod info
No filtering controls
Not the best internal soundset
Very basic midi implementation.
if these things were covered, this thing would smoke.

odds on that there'll be a tenori on 2 by the end of next year...

But what about clock sync? There is no information about it! Is there a possibility to make tenori-on master or slave?

this is better than the reason 4.0 because its portable.

i think i'd perfer a monome if I was in a position to buy a new toy, i guess the monome is more of a controller as opposed to a sequencer

Monome - 1/3 of the price and better.
The Tenori-on seems like a bit of a silly toy to me personally.
EddCunningham 4 years ago
Monone isn't exactly ideal for the average user. You practically have to be a programmer to use a monome.
tymanrocks 4 years ago
Not really, they'res plenty of templates available for various uses on their website. You can go as deep into it as you like really.
EddCunningham 4 years ago
Um, the Monome two fifty six costs $1400, $200 more than the Tenori-On. And you have to plug it into a computer, so it isn't portable..
hyphz 4 years ago
... ever heard of a laptop? the tenori is a toy, nothing like the monome at all..
