  • The anti-anti-immigration protests? But not the anti-(illegal)-immigration protests? Oh, right bigotry. Yours, Shirky.

  • He sounds like Tom Hanks. Anyone have a pic of him with hair for comparison?

NEW Engineers will not care so much for how much *you* know, unless & until they know how much you CARE.

    Exponential Aggregate Care.

Corporatism is a death knell to an individual care based motivation.

"Corps" make/reward "Employees" defined primarily as: come in late, leave early & do a minimalist of duties.

Corps do NOT reward entrepreneurial & individual thinkers & aspirations.

  • I found this simple, direct, and thought-provoking. In the last few years I have left the solid shores of Microsoft products and dipped into the sea of open-source-- PHP, Apache, MySQL-- and the communities that support these and the commercial but well-supported ActionScript. I have felt the love. :) Though I did not really think of it in those terms, and this talk gave me a new way to look at it. It also gave me new motivation to help out as best I can on those forums.

  • What the hell is he talking about? I thought everyone gets their Thursdays from a banana.

  • What great oratory skills! And that reference to the Shinto shrine, so apt and compelling.

  • evanescence oh yeah

  • I would like to say thank you as well. This very much describes my thoughts and feelings on various internet forum/discussion groups over the past ten years i have engaged with that I have seen create and improve upon even above and beyond what would be normally produced by an institution or corporate entity, its the love element there that indirectly drives/motivates progress, support and change. It is exciting to think of the formations that will arise in the future.

  • This should be required watching for anyone who says that Perl or Linux aren't viable business solution platforms. Clay Shirky does a great job explaining how it all works.

  • I love this talk and the implications. Here's to big love!

  • absolutely incredible, thanks for posting.
