Bogus... this is called the Delphi method and is used in other classes to make students think they are 'critical thinkers'. Dumbed down America, that's the goal!
@NHTPC My students learn more than to just think critically, and they don't just use the method in this video to learn that. They also learn to respect others and use kindness. Evidently your educational experience didn't include respect and manners. I am familiar with the Delphi method. It is similar to what I do, but not the same. Perhaps a 4:11 video isn't sufficient to fully demonstrate what is happening in the classroom?
Explain, in comparison to other methods, how this method dumb down people? My question is really a 2 fold question. First I am assuming you are knowledgeable about the various methods of teaching and second you are able to compare contrast them to ascertain the pros and cons of each. Not even taking into account that you would need to also be knowledgeable in the say children learn and a bit of their psychology as well. Sincerely would like to hear your side on this.
@inrbeauty We have incentives set up in the classroom. The students must pay back some of the incentives and must redo the consensus...which results in the student wishing they would have done it right, so they could have less work to do. It isn't fool proof, but much better than the alternatives.
I'm seconding the question about the penalty.
