  • Just Beautiful

  • Much respect!

  • God's gift to music.

  • awesome

  • I like the wincing before playing a complex riff or run, "oh well, it's easy for me, I'll just play it like I do at home."

  • il vien de montreal! en haut montreal!

  • oscar is mos def my fav all time.....C3 - oscar peterson takeover

  • no piano could hide from oscar he was the master.many thanks.

  • The drummer was really "digging" it at 3:57...ha

  • POWERFUL! Feel the freedom in those quick licks and the friggin mastery of the last part!

  • Thanks You Tube, great cultural and study supplement

  • This man and his musical legacy will live on forever...Young people...tell everyone you know to listen to this music and other great artists like him..Be rewarded with the effort! Let this music influence what think and what you hear. I say this to every young artist with any kind of musical style out there in the world today....Let you ear feast on what Mr Peterson does with piano and how you can relate that with your instrument .

  • I love it when this guy goes off on his incredible musical tangents!

  • Magic!!

  • Thank you for sharing this glimpse of artistic excellence. I only wish the video hadn't cut off in the middle of such a fantastic performance; is it not available in its entirety?

  • no this man didnt use one hand to wipe his face and STILL keep playin!! classic...

  • MASTER OF MASTERS!

  • Brilliant! Oscar had the ability to make the piano tell you exactly what he was feeling. He will be missed.

  • Guy's a freak! Those runs! Channeling Art Tatum. The sound of surprise, over and over and over.

  • Miles Davis once made a negative comment about Oscar Peterson's playing of blues notes, and that's what I always loved about his renditions.

  • I vaguely remember that comment.

I once traded a "Supremes' (Diana Ross) album for an Oscar Peterson. in late 60's when I was switching over to "grown folks' music"

  • Wow, he's playing this piece of music as if he is playing a full-scale piano concerto,; what can one say, passion would be a weak word for this - it's marvelous!

  • Why do the bassist and drummer look so damn bored?? This man 5 feet from you is melting his piano, show some respect.

  • They're probably thinking, "Damn, where's MY solo???".LOL

  • they're not bored man, theyre just staring in wonder. They were his permanent trio, Orsted Pederson and Martin Drew. Boredom is an impossibility.

  • No, i can assure you, they're bored.

And they're not in awe. I'd trade my left kidney to be witness Peterson and the man on the left there is picking his nose!

...Not to detract from the performance though.

  • Well when you can set an upright bass on fire like NHOP did, maybe you can look bored too. How bout that.

  • Such an atmospheric melody - reminds me of a smoky jazzclub in the 1950s, all checked tablecloths and low lights. Wonderful.

  • He has a strong caracter, keeping up the energy and concentration, while having those to nosepicking musicians behind him staring at him as if they wanna move on.. I may be wrong about this, am tired and gonna go home from work now..

  • Best song ever written!

    Best Jazz Pianist!

    Nothing else to say.

  • If you have not done so already, check out George Coleman's rendition - he gives a wonderful sexy rasping sax - I am going to be completely heretical and say that I prefer it to the Coltrane version.

  • What a fabulous musician. Oscar Peterson and Art Tatum are my favorite pianists of all time. How low does that piano go, anyway? Must be a Bosendorfer.

The only thing wrong is that the ending is cut off!

  • Actually the ending is just a lead-in to Caravan, you can find the continuation on youtube.

  • How lucky were we to have a dad who played music from this amazing artist for my brother and I during our "formative years"? Thanks for this beautiful video.

  • This tune BTW,was written words and music by

Billy Strayhorn long before he ever met Duke,

so there is no question of shared credits here.

  • The death of Mr. Oscar Petson December 23 2007 was a loss for Canada, for jazz, for the world.

This Strayhorn tune demonstrates why this is so.

    PhiberOptik

  • WoW Thanks for this post! He even sounds great when he wipes his brow. This is scary good!

  • 1:35 is perhaps one of the best things I've ever heard played on the piano.

  • No one could do an instrumental version of Lush Life better than Oscar Peterson. My God!!

  • RIP OP!!!

  • I wonder if Billy Strayhorn ever envisioned Lush Life ever sounding like this. This is truly wonderful. I know Billy, Oscar and The Duke are really jamming up there now.

    T.L. Harris

  • well said

  • Or the Joe Henderson Version... yes
