The road was my first choice and once I realised the car had taken this chance away I only had a split second to choose plan B. Remember I was decending at 1000' per minute, downwind, in rotor, 35Mph forward speed and almost on the stall point. I had never seen that part of the coast before so had no idea of what to expect until it came in to view. The water was not on my list and nerver will be unless on an SIV course. All worked out well and not a single bruise or ache.
well.. looks like the back protection did its job hehe.. To tell you the truth i`d head for the beach...Or the road...
The most unluck was the timing that the car HAD to pass..~!
Of course you did well not trying to head for the water.. It would be too dangerous if the water is deep (to get tangled and drown) and too dangerous if its shallow and try to jump of the harness (you might had broken something when hitting the bottom)
The safest rout was to land on the beach after the big rock
Maybe the Paraglider training in germany is different... but our safety training is over a lake so after we pull our safety parachute we land into water...
so i would try to hit the open water rather then just crashing into the ground and brake all my fucking bones -_-
We were not doing Acro? Landing in very cold water in winter with no one around to help you is going to be fatal. Paragliders and water do not mix unless you have a safety boat and you are prepared for it. I had 5 seconds to make a decision which turned out to be the right one as I was not injured - I was also very lucky and I know that.
For the record, most paragliding harneses have a foam protector that will turn you face down if you land in the water straped in, hence the reason not to land in the water.
Acro pilot have a diferent arangment and have a stand by boat. Just incase.
Your lucky you didnt break anything i landed in the sea onec flying on clifs with no beach its amazing how quickly things go tits up. Anyway live and learn and any pilots out there always have a landing option ! Check out my video Responce
Yeah, I can see how that would. Lucky escape, the old where do I go if it all goes wrong thing was out having a cuppa this time! Still, any landing you can crawl away from is a good one!
Nightmare sink monster. been there a few times. Well done on surviving. In hindsight, would have gone for a downwind on the road? Hindsightb being an exact science...
The downwind option was my 1st choce. The car that came in to view distracted me at the last moment. My sink rate was just over 1000' per minute. I was in rotor zone and just leeping the wing flying. It ended well which is what is important.
I overshot my LZ a few weeks ago with not enough altitude or speed to turn around. Decided to go for a crash landing since there was a big drop pull hard right and hopefully fly parallel to the slope so that when I hit I'll only get partially hurt one side.
The vegetation slowed me down a lot. One side of the wing hit first and flipped me over. I got one tiny scratch only.
similar looking to your crash but I didnt even recall flipping just realised i was facing the other direction.
Hi, no, the wing caught the wall and slowed the fall. The actual drop over the edge was 35 feet. The wind did a brilliant job of saving me but was trashed in the process. I know I was very lucky in deed. Not a single scratch, bruis or ache! Result.
Still a good watch - it all happens so fast when things go wrong. I bet your mind has replayed that flight hundreds of times. Glad you escaped injury. Some how this video doesn't need music :)
Hope you did not suffer any too serious injuries!

why did you not head to the water? that would have been the save spot....

You are joking right? You obviously don't fly paragliders as you would know that most unplanned water landings are fatal?

@Haleria Safety training (SIV) with a boat is not the same.
Most SIV Instructors will advise you to remove the foam back protector.
Water landings KILL.

@Haleria Yes, the fucking bones are important. But now, there is Viagra ;;)

U dont have much time to think but i think i would have tried to land at those rocks near the water, and then flare rlly deep at the end;)

If you had landed in the water then I suspect you would not be writing your comment as I suspect you might be dead?
Most water landings are not survivable.

how come? because of getting tangled in the gear?

He was sure descending fast. Looked like he may have been going down wind and or in rotor?

Correct, 1000' min down and in rotor
