  • One of the best live vocal performances ever...by anyone....period.

  • Janis FELT every word she sang!

  • Amazing how she was a shy girl and when she sang, OML it was just pure heart and soul pouring out of her =) Never be anyone like her ever again! One of a kind talent who sang her ass off and had So much emotion in her tunes!!!!! Mad love for my Janis =)

  • her best performance. preiod.

  • Janis... Her heart and soul is in every note. I love how the camera captured Mama Cass listening in the audience.

  • @anakyriou Did you notice what Mama Cass says??

    She just says " WOOOOWWWWWWW"!

    Enough said right there.

  • WHOA! My favorite version! I remember borrowing this 16mm movie from Enoch Pratt Library in Baltimore. Too bad though- this video cut the guitar introduction. AWESOME!

  • It's amazing to watch her perform. She put her whole heart and soul into her music, as well as her whole body, from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet. No one else can sing this like her.

  • You never see her do a planned out polished performance, but you never see her thinking about what to do next or ever doing anything that isn't perfect. She just embodies the music, and if a phrase needs to go longer or higher or lower or louder than is physically possible, she just makes herself do it. When she sang nothing existed for her but that music at that moment. No one ver sang like that and no one ever will.

  • She was the best female singer of all times, i miss her music

  • I recorded the BIO channel "Big Brother and the Holding company" ...someday I will upload it

  • "It ain't fair" to compare her to anyone else. This is the best female performance ever in the modern genre (ie. since we stopped listening to Ella). End of argument. I wish that someone could have told the girl that she set the bar too high. Watch her blowing Tom Jones away in Paris for proof. Jains was, quite simply, sublime.

  • soberbia actuacion!!!

  • A Legend on an Epic scale who shouldn't be compared to Anyone cuz she had no Peers ... in a class all by Herself ...xoxo

  • Wow! She never ceases to amaze me. So much soul and feeling. Such a shame that she let her demons take her so soon.

  • thank you, so much.

  • Trippin high* ...my fuckin god.

    IMPOSSIBLE.

  • @Marcosspeedup what does ffy mean? do you mean fyi? for your information? and... yeah so? she still looks like she's tripping out. possibly i'll look it up. thanks.

  • Best cut she ever did. Still love it. Monteray pop festival was better than woodstock!!! why won't my computer post a good comment's????? huichol53....

  • Not fair to compare her with Amy. They are both up there singing their hearts out and we loved/love/will always love them both. Which tastes sweeter, and apple or an orange?

  • Amy is more subtle than this... and her voice is more beautiful... than this and she is more sexy than this..

  • @mukta10 just my opinion,, but regarding art, artists, and sexy... i always believed great art makes u feel sexy..

  • wat a woman...wat a voice....there will never be another like her....she is just ,,,,wow

  • Nice Big Mama Thornton cover

  • Thanks Janis, much love!

  • 2:57... that chick is trippin'

  • @butter808fly FFY that chick is Mama Cass, the singer of Mamas and Papas and one of the best female voices ever. Google it.

  • @Marcosspeedup - I was wondering if that was her.

  • greatest blues singer ever

  • @mal452

    correction.... Greatest singer ever

  • Mama Cass (Cass Elliot) from the Mamas n the Papas at 4:42 !!!! :)

  • WOW!!!!! love this one!!!!

  • This song. This woman. This whole era was simply amazing; and I am so sad I could not be a part of it. Still; it's music will forever live on in my heart. We miss you Janis. I wish I could have met you.

  • Did you people who were priveledged to see this group live, know at the time that you were watching a legend in the flesh?

  • YOU WILL ALWAYS BEAUTIFUL JANIS.

  • Is that Mama Cass at the end in the crowd going 'wow'?

  • @PtolemyJones Yes it is Someone seated in front of Cass was starting in on a "Dagwood" sandwich

  • I just speechless...I watch this video while I am working on an article and this writer's block just ruined in minutes...Gosh!!! She's so inspiring!!!

  • why are people comparing Janis to anybody??? She was a musical force unlike any other and she was taken from us waaaaaayyyy too soon. I have lost faith in todays music it is all cookie cutter BS that has no life or soul. Lets face it the gen xers have nobody they can look to for REAL music. I stopped listening after Layne staley died

  • omg is´t so delisius this song

  • OMG - Transendent Blues /Soul Ultimate - And look at the discerning audience - they all know this performance is a serious historical record of Great 20th Century Music.

  • i know big mama thorton is looking down from heavan, smileing , knowing that imitation is the most sencere form of flattery

  • she did Big Mama proud, she loved Big Mama. Her intensity, the perfection she put out, its straight from her soul and the sadness in her life.. you cant be a kid from the burbs and put this out there

  • love mamma cass and how she loooks at her like if she was from a diifferent planet

  • Look I luv Janus, but she is a poor reflection on Big Momma Thorton who did this originally. Look at the original to the right...wonder what Janis would say about the two versions....

  • i luv how she sings so awsome <3

  • Amazing. Her Art bordered on witchcraft...Transcendent.

  • Gives me CHILLS!!!...what a person..RIP...:/

  • Janis's voice gives me Chills! every time I listen to her.

    R.I.P. Janis

    A talent gone too soon!

    :)

  • Kad se pojavio film gledao sam je SAMO šest puta.Na beogradsskom festivalu te ,sedamdeset i prvedruge,NIJE bilonijedne predstasve više.VERUJ TE TO JE JEDNO OD MOJIH NAJTUŽNIJIH DOGAĐAJA IZ MLADOSTI:A ONA SE IGRALA I NAŠIM ŽIVOTIMA.MENI JE KAO F A M I L I J A :

  • SVE DANAŠNJE PLAVUŠE IZGLEDAJU ;NA ŠTIKLAMA ,KAO DA VUKU LANAC I ROBIJAŠKU KUGLU!!!

  • lol at momma cass "wow!"

  • 7 people are going to hell! Lol.............Joplin the BEST!

  • "LIQUID GOLDEN ANGELIC TONES"! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE YOU JANICE!

(IF you sit still, while listening to this.....YOU'RE NOT ALIVE!)

  • I will always miss Janis , I was 10 I felt evry note she sang , this song particulary because my grandma sang this , Big Momma Thorton originally sang this tne Janis put it on the charts ,,,,, Love you Janis Love you Big Momma

  • You're right

  • FUCK MADONNA!!! JANIS JOPLIN IS THE BEST

  • @ragingbull2001 ...Sorry but to even mention someone like Madonna in here is an INSULT.

  • I was only ten when Janis sang this song . I still feel her pain, I guess human

nature hasn't changed much in 45 years.

  • Minha Diva.... Janis forever! I love U

  • another big HUGE loss to the music world..

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • Worth a thousand Amy Winehouse's with change left over.

  • @zunk11 THEY both were very exceptional ladies..

  • @MsOtter13 yeah, like Cass Elliot was an exceptional lady... just not even in the same league, and she knows it from her gaping wonder.

  • @zunk11 aww...leave poor Amy alone...so adorable and vulnerable on that stage.....and it's not a stretch to say that she was actually a more impressive song-writer than Janis....but yes, regarding actual live performance, Janis blows Amy off the stage....

  • @carcariden I like amy's voice better. Its more smooth. But I like janis's harshness in her voice.

  • @zunk11 so strange my mom said the same thing.

  • @Kushablestoner and your mom was right!

  • can not agree, they both are awesome!

  • @SenoritaMargarita482 Well, it's your ears, but I doubt they'll be watching Amy Whinehouse live videos and talking about her genius in 40+ years.

  • time will show, Amy was one of the most talented musicians nowadays

  • @SenoritaMargarita482 yeah, nowadays.. Compared to Christine Ag., Lady Gaga, Beyonce. She's been gone only a few months and you hear almost nothing about her now.

  • @zunk11 you have to go back almost 50 years ago, may be you would understand that they were no cotton sheet like the ones you're talking about,,,,,no singing class no nothing!!! so I think that she deserve a little bit more respect than that! sorry!!!

  • @zunk11 the answer I made before was for you, poor thing, you have to go back almost 50 years ago!!! than you would understand something!!!! I'm not saying that C,A or L.Gaga or Beyonce are no good, but if you go back, !!!!!!!!!!!

  • @zunk11 I love both Amy and Janis, dunno why you have to make such a loathesome comment.

  • @zunk11 uhh, yes and now. Amy Winehouse was good, but not the same kind of singing, Amy was more of a Torch singer, Janis is BLUES.... two different things should not be compared.

  • who r the 7 idiots who dislike godess like Joplin?

  • A Goddess!

  • nobody loves in vain .. and no one drug will fight in vain ... in vain ... ... suffer never know the reasons that led to his tragic death. However, I will never have the right to criticize him, even his work, which touches me deeply! Even having been died before my birth, you surely understand and spilled all the pain of a heart not understood!

  • janis live forever ... love you ...

  • When she gets to "Baby tell me why.." that felling is booming in the back of my head, Wow i can't put a second from the greatest there only one and only. Janis is the queen I will never put another Ever and im glad she a Texas girl like me

  • jim jimmy and janice ,(and elvis )lost grip of their reality

    what a waste

  • @tsjoukie1 Kurt? Brian?

  • I respect her version of the song and the respect she had for the original Big Mama Thorton version of the song..but in my opinion her version is great but Big Mama's version is awesome! too bad Big Mama Thorton didnt make the money off a song that she actually wrote that Janis made off the cover....

  • belle

  • just love the queen of rock rip janis

  • Janis, basically has said everything i ever wanted a woman to say to me. Cry, Try Just a Little Bit Harder, Tell Mama... Need I say more?

  • It does not matter how many times I listen to this performance, each time Janis gives me the chills, SHE WILL NEVER DIE!

  • We are so fortunate we have the video and the audio. Consider those that have been lost to history because they were just a sub-note in a book somewhere. People will always be able to see and hear what she was about, and why so many remain fans after all this time.

  • @BLathrope What i have on cd from her is not half awesome like this. Praise the Internet.

  • @gillybgoode

thats putting her in a box, perfect kinda reminds me of a box, theres no word invented to describe her. except JANIS JOPLIN

  • She got the blues

  • the only real woman rocker ever?

  • describe janis joplin in one word?

    i cant....

  • @jjmotiose Perfect.

  • I always loved her best with Big Brother.

  • Her band was fantastic too, always overlooked her star shined so bright!

  • :( why did you have to die at 27. i love you.

  • when i was in jail, for just asilly and stupid lil' thing, my only friend, the only one i was listened to was janis, R.I.P. sister

  • Yes, 8834b, it's Mama Cass. The story goes...Cass Elliot was blown away by Janis at the Monterey Pop Festival. Truly floored, like all of those that loved Janis would be as she took America by storm. Another great who stole the show (along with Janis) was Jimi Hendrix.

  • 1:14

  • Gotta love the closeup's of her ankles, that's powerful man.

  • Yes she did Beatlemaniac.............very much so.

    RIP Janis, all my love

  • nice

  • No mames!!!!!Es casi casi un orgasmo para mi el escuhar cada una de sus canciones de esta gran artista La gran bruja cosmica Gracias por compartir todos estos clasicos del rock

  • Just wasn't the same after she split with Big Brother and the Holding Company...still miss her though.

  • thats right she sang wit feelings coming from her heart love her, very talented and amazing girl may ur songs be heard in heaven wit angels around u for ur fans, its been 40 years thats ur gone i still listen to ur music Janis a legend

  • The incerdible Janis Joplin, she sang from her soul

  • Many artists seem to make the concerts about their popularity, glorying in their fans' love. Not her. That performance was about her heart, her soul, and her raw passion. I bet she wouldn't have noticed if the audience wasn't there.

  • mesmerized

  • SUBLIME

  • Isn't that Momma Cass Elliott of the, "Mommas and Papas" with her mouth open? Yea, its her. My mouth's open too!

  • @8834b it is Mama Cash and she's saying WOW

  • @SjoerdDekker Actually, I think the great woman say's, "Wow, wow, that is really heavy". Thanks so much for posting TOKU 1023!

  • @SjoerdDekker yeah your right, I wanted to point out thats she not just sitting with her mouth open :-)

  • @8834b - Reports were that Mama Cass was 'totally blown away'

  • @8834b

  • @8834b

Yep. She could blow a venue away. Including Momma Cass.

  • @8834b Yarp

  • I think one of the things that makes Janis such a great performer person etc. Is the fact that she didn't care.

  • I was at Forest Park in St. Louis Mo. on June 30 1969. She was with the cosmic blues band & when she sang those white blues..electricity ran thru my veins like the first high I ever experienced. I'll always remember her. She had more class on her purple painted thumbnail than anyone else who ever tried to sing the blues.

  • Give me Big Momma Thornton's version ANYDAY

  • This woman had the best pipes in the history of rock and roll

  • Comment removed

  • You go, girl!

  • miss you janis!!!!

  • Personally, I think Joplin was one of the best Blue's singers of all time!

  • So where is this available?

  • Diosa de espiritu libre

  • Would she make it on American Idol this year? I know her vocals and song choices would. She is an icon of pure rough talent. She sure owned every song she sang! :)
