  • Yes, in the score it doesn't call for a tirce d'picardi at the end. The last chord is in fact a D minor (D,A,F,D).

  • Thanks for posting, I'm learning this piece also at the moment.

But I think you play the wrong chord at the end? You play it as a major chord (F# instead of F) , but I believe it should be a minor chord? As the piece is entirely written in D-minor.

  • no, that is done alot, it is ment to be F sharp, it's called a picardy third. in baroque music they had the opinion that a major chord was more consonant than a minor chord, so they should end with one whenever possible. it's done alot in classical harmony & baroque, and it's beautiful

  • I Agree, it sounds surprising (and beatiful). But my score - Urtext Edition by G. Henle Verlag - also reads D, A for LH and F, D for RH, so no F# there.

I therefore played it that way, otherwise my teacher wouldn't be so amused ;-)

  • Thanks for posting! I'm studying this piece for my pianolessons, but as I'm not very good at it, I lost the idea of what it's supposed to sound like. Thanks for clearing up!

  • Yhanks.

    Philippe. :)

  • Excellent

  • Merci.
