My mixer has 587 knobs buttons and sliders combined..so yeah...I've seen more knobs than what that little mixer has on it...

I have the Behring 3242 FX Pro... 32 Channel mixer, Dual 24 bit effects processors...really nice...His little mixer doesn't have very many knobs compared to my beast LOL

@scott93257 Yeah but his mixer has on the backside D sub analog outs and tape returns so with the proper computer interface he can track all his audio directly to the pc without recording each channel one at a time

Basically if there are 16 channels playing then 16 channels can simultaneously be recorded in a daw each on its own track or audio that has all ready been tracked can be sent out and mixed on that board.

@w1ck3dad4m its main function is basically to balance the volumes of the different things (tracks) playing but it has things like treble and bass (and effects such as reverb) to balance out high and low frequency levels

The manual that came with my mixer explains each control in isolation, which is pretty pointless unless you have previous experience.

From experience, both types of mixer do the same job, often with similar interfaces.

One question is...Can you press two buttons or move two sliders, at the same time,on a software mixer....With a mouse? (I can't). :-)

@sipp91 You've just answered your question. Software mixers are software, 'This' mixer is hardware. There's typically less controls on a software mixer although if you're talking about adding a control surface (Looks similar to this mixer without any inputs, used for software mixers) that tends to make recording just that little bit more interesting.
