  • Who is the actor that plays guy patterson (drummer) He was in something else that was popular. Is that really them singing/playing?

  • Guy Patterson is played by Tom Everrett Scott.

He was in Dead Man On Campus and One True Thing w/William Hurt, Renee Zellweger and Meryl Streep. He was also Tara Reid's boss in Van Wilder.

All four actors learned how to play their instruments for the film. :)

  • Damn that bass line is insane!

  • It's so fun to play~

  • i agree

  • i agree

  • The frontman in the band, Jimmy, is heavily modelled on John Lennon, but then the band is heavily modelled on The Beatles anyway. They don't deny that - there are many Beatles references in the film. Most US bands of that period were. Jimmy plays a Rickenbacker guitar and stands just like Lennon when he sings: legs slightly apart, guitar is worn high (nearer his chest than stomach) shoulders raised up near his ears, head jutting forwards to the microphone - Jimmy is Lennon in every sense.

  • my dad went to college with the drummer

  • oh he is so lucky!!

Or the drummer of Fountains of Wayne?

  • It's fictional;

    FOOL

  • believe it or not they were a real band. the story isnt fictional.

  • The story is fictional. The Wonders never existed...

  • Whatever, it's a cool movie! lol

  • no it was a real band. my mom was a fan

  • according to wikipedia (haha), The Wonders was not supposed to be a real band when the movie was made... but after they released the song on the movie's soundtrack, it became "a genuine hit for The Wonders". So guess those guys became known as a real band... pretty interesting way to start and end a band XD

  • wikipedia is the worst source of information in the world. anyone can edit it so it is very hard for it to be true

  • there's a someone that watches the editing.you can edit the stuffs in there but it'll be filtered first.

  • Look it up on Wikipedia and IMDB. The band is fictional. Of course a lot of what happens in the movies is based on things that happened to real bands of the time, but the band itself- completely fictional and this song was written for the movie.

  • this song is a One Hit wonder thats why

  • One of the members of Fountains of Wayne actually wrote the song and submitted it in a contest. It does sound like one of or a few of them singing it too.

  • i dont know the artist but i do know tom hanks wrote this song

  • The song was released as a single in promotion for the film and for its soundtrack. Although not as successful as the song had been in the film, it still did well

The song was written by Adam Schlesinger. Performers include Mike Viola on vocals with Schlesinger on backup vocals

  • According to Wikipedia:

The movie features original music by Hanks, Adam Schlesinger, Rick Elias, Scott Rogness, Mike Piccirillo, Gary Goetzman and Howard Shore. "That Thing You Do" was written and composed by Adam Schlesinger, bassist for Fountains of Wayne and Ivy. Mike Viola of The Candy Butchers provided the distinctive lead vocals for the Wonders.
