@HTTS76 because that's the breed standard. they crop the ears for appearence but it also helps them hear better & keep the ear canal dry so they dont get infections. you do it as puppies so they dont feel it as much & heal faster much like we do with children and their tonsels, and nobody says thats "cruel" or "inhumain".

My female Amstaff's ears aren't clipped. I personally prefer them that way. I have no intentions of showing her, she's just the best pet ever. Well equal best with my male English staffy :)

Am-staffs are the most wonderful dogs in the world. I'd like to share my am-staff story but it's impossible to summarize in less than 500 characters. Lets start by explaining I was a believer in the stories of viciousness when I was offered a boxer puppy that had been tied to a fence and left for 2 weeks. (continuing in another space)

Check out some old pit dogs from way back when and tell me how different they all look. they were all registered apbts too. these am staffs are in perfect form for the breed standard.

I have had both Amstaffs and Apbt i recently lost my 11 year old Amstaff its been tuff he was truly a great dog an Amstaff from really good stock is in my eyes one of the best looking dogs there is.. recently got a Colby very differnet but hes coming along fine..
I would take my Amstaff over an Pitbull anyday. Even though I love the pitbull it seems that you get such a variation, people claiming their dog is a purebread pitbull. Crosses that seem to have lost all athleticism. The bigger is better kind of idea I guess. I agree with with doluseb.
i think pitbulls and amstaffs are the same breed they all came from fighting dogs from irish and english imigrants to the usa which where staffordshire bull terreirs ! my staffy is around 21 kg and 18 inchs to his shoulders some say a bit tall but he looks great and won shows etc when he was younger . breed standard is slightly shorter at 16 inchs for a male dog but he looks great and real athlectic
The Bulldog comes in a variety of colours and ideally has a smooth, short coat. In the United Kingdom, the breed standard is 55 pounds for a male and 50 pounds for a female, but it is not uncommon for males to be 70 pounds so there for any true full blooded Am Pitbull Terrier or Am Staffordshire Terrier shouldnt get any heavier then these Bulldogs
APBT and AST are the same if you don't consider a "new" breed beginning after ~80 years. I'll take a working AST over an APBT anyday since most people now-adays consider the 100+lb mastiffs and/or the short English bulldog-type bullies to be apbts. IF you can find a purebred APBT you've got one hell of a dog...ps there are some people out there that don't consider these breeds anything other than bastardizations of the SBT, so it's very opinionated.
The AST weight size is 70 pounds and These dogs are 10 inches smaller then the APBT. Some fokes say that AST's weigh in around 80 pounds and this is majority, Most of the AST's that Are that large have been crossed with another breeds.

Probably the main reason AST`s have gotten bigger over the years is nutrition & the APBT has been crossed with them. & everyone knows Breeders such as Razors Edge have backcrossed to the English Bulldog. Their Tricolor pits are obviously crossed to the Rottweiler. Presa Canario would be 10 inches taller which is a pit x Mastiff. I have 2 AST`s & 1 Staffy all 3 are very people friendly because we socialized them & we`re never cruel to them
AST never got taller its came from cross breeding them with pits that mess up the bloodline I'm the only one who got the true bloodline of the AST which is 19 inches and 70lbs my uncle use to work has a AST breeder
Our male AmStaff is papered. He comes from mostly Gaff lines w/ a little Sierra. He is about 67 lbs. Since he is not neutored he can`t be around other male dogs. He is VERY people friendly & has been socialized since he was a pup. AmStaff males weigh between 60 & 75 lbs. "pitBulls" range between 60-110 lbs & since they have been crossed with Rottys & bulldogs they don`t seem to be as mentally stable. So you could say AKC AmStaffs tend to be more of a purebreed.
you got it wrong AmStaff never did change there weight its still 60lbs to 70lbs not 75lbs yours came from the blue blood bulldog stock you need to get the real AmStaff like me I mines came from the english bulldog stock which he kept his weight at 70lbs full grown no less and no more then 70lbs

where I got my dog from these breeders is re-breeding over with the English Bulldog and Manchester Terrier breeds just to see if the facts are true about the AST breeds so far they only came up with the weight, height and color to be true compare to the old book on AST breeds I was talking to my uncle who deal with these breeders and he told me there is no blue nose in AST breeds

There is no difference. Pit Bull is a generic term that encompasses many different breeds, including the AmStaff. And of course AmStaffs look different from EngStaffs. They're different breeds.

Body-wise, Amstaffs are shorter and more bulky where the true pit is slim build, a bit taller, and agile. The Amstaff was separated from the pit genetically and have been for over 30 years, thereby making the Amstaff technically different. The pit are often called gamebred which means they have the ability to fight through immense pain. Both have the same temperament, love people, and are dog aggressive which you have 2 make sure you socialize them with dogs to combat that instinct.
Amstaffs don't have the same temperament nor the dog-dog agression than pitbulls. Amstaffs are much more balanced because breeders have chosen to keep a well tempered breed. Sadly this is not the case for pitbulls, they haven't been bred carefully. Dog-dog agression cannot be battled with socialization, these dogs (no matter how socialized) should never be left alone unsupervised with other dogs. genetics should not be taken for granted.
Well, you can't make that statement because pitbull, the term, is an umbrella term and we don't know what pitbull is purebred or one that has been mixed for aggression. There are some good pitbulls out there with good temperaments, but hey, Amstaff and Pitbulls are not THAT much different from other terriers. You HAVE to beat that dog aggression out by socializing them. I've seen submissive pits and seen crazy ones. And there are plenty of pits left with other dogs all the time.
well The American pit bull terrier might not be a recognized breed by the AKC or other kennel clubs such as the FCI but the truly carefully bred APBT is a breed My mistake is that I wasn't clear on that. This pure bred APBTs are as well balanced as the Amstaff's sometimes. Still there are some APTBs "breeders" that look for power and endurance to compete in working trials, but don't really pay attention to the temperament.
Dog aggression can only be beaten by carefull breeding. Even if you've seen bull type terriers left alone with other dogs, any true breeder can tell you this is not the best thing to do. not because they will attack them for sure, but to prevent the first fight from happening. this aggression is in ther DNA, it's hidden at the bottom sometimes, but it is there and thats why you breed carefully. this are not dogs for first time owners.
AmStaffs are directly descended from Pits. The old standard which is ignored now was based on Colbys Primo. I have met many more AmStaffs that are fight crazy than I have pits & Ive only met about 10 AmStaffs & Ive been around hundreds of pits. My own pit is just weird acting. I think the people that had him before I got him mistreated him. He hates certain things. Sometimes the smallest noise like clicking my fingernails against each other makes him cringe like he is about to be hit.

There is no such thing as a Blue nose Staffie, all Am Staffs are black nosed. American Pitt Bull Terriers can have red, black or blue noses. I think it's great you are getting one though, please choose you dog by tempement and health not color.
Blue amstaffs have blue noses and though the standard calls for black noses, genetics and breeding have taught judges and breeders that with a recesive color you cannot have a black nose. A blue nose is allowed in blue amstaffs.
I own a Amstaff and we do alot of work for our local animal shelter. He's a big hit at all of the special events the shelter has. I just love him and wouldn't own any other kind of dog.

i own an amstaff and it's the best dog. loyal, smart, fearless, everything a terrier should be. so as for breeding the agression out of them, i beg to differ. pit bull or amstaff, these are NOT dog friendly dogs and even with strangers. it takes a responsible owner to own one of these fine animals.
well most dos, reguardless of breed, are typically going to protect their owners from straners. that's if you take of your dog and give it a reason to be loyal. so i should say that my dog is protective of me and my girlfriend. not that he goes around attacking people but if you're a stranger NATURALLY he will be warry of you, as he should be. my home is always protected with him around.
i wouldn't want a dog that would allow someone to just invade our home(because it's his home also). he plays with the neighborhood kids all the time our friends can come over with no problem. i like to introduce the people who will be around alot slowly. other than that he will do harm to a stranger that just comes in without warning or without one of his owners. this doesn't mean my dog is bad or out of standard, he's just doing what a good dog does.
I believe all dogs are wary of strangers to some extent. But it is a fact that if you are wary of strangers, your dog will follow your lead and be wary too. Your dog can sense your fear or anxiety.
I do it all the time with my bulldog and rott - get them focused when the door bell rings - I get all that.
but if you support APBTs like you seem to, be carful when saying things that some may misinterperet.

My female Amstaff's ears aren't clipped. I personally prefer them that way. I have no intentions of showing her, she's just the best pet ever. Well equal best with my male English staffy :)

there you go again. it is a ridiculous notion that the westminster dog show wouldnt have true am staffs. am staffs are shorter and stockier than an american pit bull terrier. apbt has a wider array of genetics and that would explain the vast differences in appearance of the breed. Check out some old pit dogs from way back when and tell me how different they all look. they were all registered apbts too. these am staffs are in perfect form for the breed standard.

I have had both Amstaffs and Apbt i recently lost my 11 year old Amstaff its been tuff he was truly a great dog an Amstaff from really good stock is in my eyes one of the best looking dogs there is.. recently got a Colby very differnet but hes coming along fine..

I would take my Amstaff over an Pitbull anyday. Even though I love the pitbull it seems that you get such a variation, people claiming their dog is a purebread pitbull. Crosses that seem to have lost all athleticism. The bigger is better kind of idea I guess. I agree with with doluseb.

i think pitbulls and amstaffs are the same breed they all came from fighting dogs from irish and english imigrants to the usa which where staffordshire bull terreirs ! my staffy is around 21 kg and 18 inchs to his shoulders some say a bit tall but he looks great and won shows etc when he was younger . breed standard is slightly shorter at 16 inchs for a male dog but he looks great and real athlectic

The Bulldog comes in a variety of colours and ideally has a smooth, short coat. In the United Kingdom, the breed standard is 55 pounds for a male and 50 pounds for a female, but it is not uncommon for males to be 70 pounds so there for any true full blooded Am Pitbull Terrier or Am Staffordshire Terrier shouldnt get any heavier then these Bulldogs

Am Stafs and Pits are the same dog. As you can register your pit or am staf under the AST organizations and the APBT organizations.

APBT and AST are the same if you don't consider a "new" breed beginning after ~80 years. I'll take a working AST over an APBT anyday since most people now-adays consider the 100+lb mastiffs and/or the short English bulldog-type bullies to be apbts. IF you can find a purebred APBT you've got one hell of a dog...ps there are some people out there that don't consider these breeds anything other than bastardizations of the SBT, so it's very opinionated.

The AST weight size is 70 pounds and These dogs are 10 inches smaller then the APBT. Some fokes say that AST's weigh in around 80 pounds and this is majority, Most of the AST's that Are that large have been crossed with another breeds.

What do you mean 10 inches smaller? height? girth ?. Probably the main reason AST`s have gotten bigger over the years is nutrition & the APBT has been crossed with them. & everyone knows Breeders such as Razors Edge have backcrossed to the English Bulldog. Their Tricolor pits are obviously crossed to the Rottweiler. Presa Canario would be 10 inches taller which is a pit x Mastiff. I have 2 AST`s & 1 Staffy all 3 are very people friendly because we socialized them & we`re never cruel to them

Our male AmStaff is papered. He comes from mostly Gaff lines w/ a little Sierra. He is about 67 lbs. Since he is not neutored he can`t be around other male dogs. He is VERY people friendly & has been socialized since he was a pup. AmStaff males weigh between 60 & 75 lbs. "pitBulls" range between 60-110 lbs & since they have been crossed with Rottys & bulldogs they don`t seem to be as mentally stable. So you could say AKC AmStaffs tend to be more of a purebreed.

where I got my dog from these breeders is re-breeding over with the English Bulldog and Manchester Terrier breeds just to see if the facts are true about the AST breeds so far they only came up with the weight, height and color to be true compare to the old book on AST breeds I was talking to my uncle who deal with these breeders and he told me there is no blue nose in AST breeds

What's the difference between these and Pit Bull's? in looks & conformation etc..? They look nothing like the original English Staffordshire Bull Terrier, they are twice the height. What other breed is used to get the height in this breed of Staff? I personally Love Bull Terriers, bit mad but that's the Bully!

There is no difference. Pit Bull is a generic term that encompasses many different breeds, including the AmStaff. And of course AmStaffs look different from EngStaffs. They're different breeds.

Body-wise, Amstaffs are shorter and more bulky where the true pit is slim build, a bit taller, and agile. The Amstaff was separated from the pit genetically and have been for over 30 years, thereby making the Amstaff technically different. The pit are often called gamebred which means they have the ability to fight through immense pain. Both have the same temperament, love people, and are dog aggressive which you have 2 make sure you socialize them with dogs to combat that instinct.

Amstaffs don't have the same temperament nor the dog-dog agression than pitbulls. Amstaffs are much more balanced because breeders have chosen to keep a well tempered breed. Sadly this is not the case for pitbulls, they haven't been bred carefully. Dog-dog agression cannot be battled with socialization, these dogs (no matter how socialized) should never be left alone unsupervised with other dogs. genetics should not be taken for granted.

Well, you can't make that statement because pitbull, the term, is an umbrella term and we don't know what pitbull is purebred or one that has been mixed for aggression. There are some good pitbulls out there with good temperaments, but hey, Amstaff and Pitbulls are not THAT much different from other terriers. You HAVE to beat that dog aggression out by socializing them. I've seen submissive pits and seen crazy ones. And there are plenty of pits left with other dogs all the time.

well The American pit bull terrier might not be a recognized breed by the AKC or other kennel clubs such as the FCI but the truly carefully bred APBT is a breed My mistake is that I wasn't clear on that. This pure bred APBTs are as well balanced as the Amstaff's sometimes. Still there are some APTBs "breeders" that look for power and endurance to compete in working trials, but don't really pay attention to the temperament.

Dog aggression can only be beaten by carefull breeding. Even if you've seen bull type terriers left alone with other dogs, any true breeder can tell you this is not the best thing to do. not because they will attack them for sure, but to prevent the first fight from happening. this aggression is in ther DNA, it's hidden at the bottom sometimes, but it is there and thats why you breed carefully. this are not dogs for first time owners.

AmStaffs are directly descended from Pits. The old standard which is ignored now was based on Colbys Primo. I have met many more AmStaffs that are fight crazy than I have pits & Ive only met about 10 AmStaffs & Ive been around hundreds of pits. My own pit is just weird acting. I think the people that had him before I got him mistreated him. He hates certain things. Sometimes the smallest noise like clicking my fingernails against each other makes him cringe like he is about to be hit.

Most people believe that the Amstaff is just the show-pitbull, however, due to the ambiguous term "pitbull" which means that pits are often bred with other dogs to make more aggressive, people often say the Amstaff is a pit, but it is not. The Amstaff, so long as it is not bred with any other dog, is an Amstaff. The term pit can be attached to anything that looks like a pit b/c pit is used as an umbrella term, and most people don't know the true pit. Even Dogos are seen as large pits, but no.

There is no such thing as a Blue nose Staffie, all Am Staffs are black nosed. American Pitt Bull Terriers can have red, black or blue noses. I think it's great you are getting one though, please choose you dog by tempement and health not color.

Blue amstaffs have blue noses and though the standard calls for black noses, genetics and breeding have taught judges and breeders that with a recesive color you cannot have a black nose. A blue nose is allowed in blue amstaffs.

I own a Amstaff and we do alot of work for our local animal shelter. He's a big hit at all of the special events the shelter has. I just love him and wouldn't own any other kind of dog.

i dont think American Staffs are illegal in the UK. But PitBulls definitely are. for what it's worth, I think banning PBs is rediculous, they are not naturally "people agressive". as far as i know they were bred SPECIFICALLY *NOT* to be people aggressive and very loyal to their owners.
well the UK PB ban was just the government pulling a political ACE anyhow, most people know that. There have been more deaths at the hands of Rottweillers here in the UK, yet they are still legal. Illogical.

very nice video, and BEAUTIFUL dogs! I have a American Staffordshire that just became a champion at 10 months here in Hawaii. very proud of him. Learning the sport and becoming a great hobby. I love these dogs, so friendly and loving. I really don't care what people say its how we raise and teach them...like anything in a animal or child. Anyways gorgeous dog. i own an amstaff and it's the best dog. loyal, smart, fearless, everything a terrier should be. so as for breeding the agression out of them, i beg to differ. pit bull or amstaff, these are NOT dog friendly dogs and even with strangers. it takes a responsible owner to own one of these fine animals.

well most dos, reguardless of breed, are typically going to protect their owners from straners. that's if you take of your dog and give it a reason to be loyal. so i should say that my dog is protective of me and my girlfriend. not that he goes around attacking people but if you're a stranger NATURALLY he will be warry of you, as he should be. my home is always protected with him around.

i wouldn't want a dog that would allow someone to just invade our home(because it's his home also). he plays with the neighborhood kids all the time our friends can come over with no problem. i like to introduce the people who will be around alot slowly. other than that he will do harm to a stranger that just comes in without warning or without one of his owners. this doesn't mean my dog is bad or out of standard, he's just doing what a good dog does.

I believe all dogs are wary of strangers to some extent. But it is a fact that if you are wary of strangers, your dog will follow your lead and be wary too. Your dog can sense your fear or anxiety.
I do it all the time with my bulldog and rott - get them focused when the door bell rings - I get all that.
but if you support APBTs like you seem to, be carful when saying things that some may misinterperet.
