What makes this opening scene so scary is the "ordinariness" of it all. Two young people, all alone in a big lonely cemetery, in the cold autumn weather, no special effects. Then all of a sudden some "dead" person appears from nowhere. God, is that spooky!!!!
I remember my Mom and Dad taking us three kids to see this when I was only 8 years old...That night, us three kids were sleeping in the same bed we were so scared!!!!
i love old movies.. i dnt wna sound like a wimp bt this scared the shit outta me esp d bit where the zombie was chasin the woman hahahaaha O.o those zombies r so dam sharp
i like the other night of the living dead better i know i cant blame the actors or other ppl for a low 1968 budget but the first zombie reminded me of frankinstein O.-
@incrediblehulkmovies LMAO I had felt the same way! Why? because most everything I watched on TV was in black and white because we didn't have a coler set until the 70's. I thought the news reports were the real thing. lol!!!!!
I wonder if the Actor who did the line "there Coming to get you Barbra." did any voices for Cartoons or halloween stores on CD.. when he does that voice he sounds fimilur. I think I've heared that voice before aside from this movie.
In his review in his movie guide, Leonard Maltin argues that this film just may be the greatest horror movie of all time. And with good reason: Because it was a political statement of what was going on in 1968. I saw this film (I have the colorized version on DVD) and it was okay. A little reminder for those that want to see this: Don't expect a happy ending. Duane Jones' character getting killed (guess where? In the head like Kennedy) is probably one of the two cruelest death scenes in the 60s.
@EricandDish yup the ending was horrible. ...in modern movies the zombies always die off in gruesome comedic ways that are seen as amusing and theres even celebratory fucking to call it a day between the survivors after shooting the zombies' heads off theres always a "hot girl" and the "hot guy" who seems like a dickhead or is just plain annoying who always survive lol. i love how specific i get lool bt modern zombie movies r more comedic. this is the real deal.shits on modern remakes,
There is a 40th anniversary DVD out now for this movie. The picture and sound quality is superb and there are tons of extras. Any fan should not be without it. Defiantly worth the 15 bucks.
@lordsahasrala88 old horror movies r brilliant cos there in black and white. wudve loved to see a black and white horror movie @ the cinema lol every1 wud av to bring extra pairs of knickers. XD am a big cinema fan bt i love old movies i think they got so much more personality than most of the 3D raped modern ones. some of the modern ones r masterpieces bt every yr i feel sick to my stomach at the new stupid releases like wolfman, da unborn, marmaduke, knight and day, the killers etc...urrghh
As youngters in the early 70s my sister and I fought as to who was to turn off the bedroom lights after watching this movie for the 1st time. Guess who lost lol? THIS MOVIE SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF US!!
Oh if you think that was nice you're just gonna fall in love with this chick. I would not like to be stuck with her in any emergency that's for sure. lol
I wholeheartedly agree. Or at least just ban the jackasses who think they're so smart changing all the rules in such idiotic ways and never even get the spirit of the originals. There are some good movies though in the Romero tradition, but too much trash. Dawn 2004 wasn't horrible itself but I was just offended when I heard the director's commentary. these clowns had no respect for the original and its rules. They had no business doing a remake.
RIP Bill Hinzman. the guy who played the first zombie in the movies!
