  • And who said quake was simply shooting and jumping

  • lol where are graphics??!

  • @SHARRUNAS Pro config turns down the graphics for smoother gaming and better visibility.

  • @Scremph Did not know that. Thanks.

  • fucking amazing how he read the game

  • at 16.38 they mention a particular fight. what do they say? i only understand "quakecon" :( i'd like to see that demo/video if it's on youtube

  • @pasquale90 At quakecon 2009 Rapha lost the game in with one second left.

  • holy crap, i don't even pull off the amount of smart moves in one whole game than he does every 20 seconds. maybe that's why i get my ass whooped all the time.

  • Chek out the video that i made new intro

  • Those opening two rockets make me jizz my pants every time.

  • My friend is an idiot and thinks halo takes more skill than quake, can you give me reasons to prove him wrong?

  • @ElementSwing Show him this video.

  • Comment removed

  • Quake isn't about skills, it's simply about remembering the timer and when armor and health respawns, it has little to do with aim and even a child can add numbers. So, no skills really..

  • @pineapple123321 roflol. Pretty sure any decent quake player own any kind of fps regarding aim.

  • @pineapple123321 BWAHAHAHAHA! just remembering the timer? well, sure, there's TIMINGS to memorize and apply, but any of the items can be taken at any time (MAJOR PREDICTION); there's also more than the major items to time, so there's at least a dozen timings to keep track of (let's see u do that now), and aiming... let's see you master about 5 different core weapons and use them in any situation, even ones they're not good in...

about half the game is pure aiming.

  • @pineapple123321 and more on aim, if two players have equally effective strategies, then it's all aim. also: let's see you hit perfect shots every single time. cmon. put up the demo.

  • @pineapple123321 lol it involves counting? i guess that's why you're so bad at it 8)

  • @pineapple123321 Lessee those pro demos bro.

  • com_maxfps125 r_picmip 7 r_displayrefresh 0 r_dynamiclight 0 r_lightmap 0 r_subdivisions 80 r_vertexlight 1 cg_sampleitems 1 r_lodbias -2 r_enablepostprocess 0 r_overbrightbits 1 r_mcpoverbrightbits 2 cg_drawgun 0
  • hmm I really like how the game looks in these videos. It is there is a good amount of detail, but at the same time walls and floors look very smooth... This is not simply changing r_picmip... any dieas which are some of the key variables i should change in my config?

  • damn he thinks fast

  • Yes both quake, counter-strike and call if duty require different "skills" however a quake player like myself and ANY other high level quake player can pick up any FPS game and totally rape within a day or two due to the fact the reaction time and aim is far superior to any other FPS game. So all in all QUAKE All other fps games.

Watch a counterstrike or cod player try play quake, they will never get good enough to compete if they play the game for 6months+

  • @skybringdeath actually, you will die in counter-strike because recoil exists. A counter-strike player will easily rape in Quake, because the aiming will be really easy.

  • @NoMoreDudes Not really, since aim alone won't get you very far in quake.

  • @NoMoreDudes no he won't, aiming in quake is so irrelevant, this game shows it perfectly, in cs you're punished for any kind of movement due to recoil, you're forced by the game to move slowly, play campy, in quake you need such movement fluidity and perfect timing on items, it's a whole different level from games like cs or cod, no cs player will have skills to do that because none of the military shooters have that, they're all about aiming while aiming in quake is like 30% maybe

  • Rapha is fenomenal ,not only that he is a quake master,he is so decent and polite, its really cool listening him ,n1 man.

  • @MonCoin

mayb because you are the most boring person in planet earth?

  • how is this map called?

  • @TheDynamicTV Campgrounds

  • Awesome I hope to see more of these!

  • damn people still playing on gameboys in 2010, the fuck?

  • @do0rkn0b go back to battlefag kid, you have no idea why the settings are low

  • @qlspadex inability to adapt, fps players have this problem. it's k.

  • @do0rkn0b your an moran

  • @qlspadex you can't spell, most fps players have this problem. it's k.

  • @do0rkn0b ur sarcasm detector is broken i guess

fps is true master race of gaming

    p.s: ur an moran

  • @qlspadex "ur"

  • QL requires more skills than CS. Period.

  • @FatherTuck true. Quake, UT, Teeworlds, Warsow is always harden than css or cs (:

  • @FatherTuck Before you call me a "cs fanboy" or whatever, i play both. i think they require different kinds of skill, can't compare the two

  • @Psycho255 I'm not trying to argue or anything... just saying how it is ;)

  • how to put that graphic i mean what settings? im newbie

  • @funnytowels Texture Detail: Low Lighting Model: Lightmapped

I prefer to use Texture Detail: Poor + Vertex or Lightmapped.

  • @audun0905 @ch72105 Both games require different sets of skills; Neither of your comments are constructive or needed in any way, play what you like and stop being children about it.

  • Why does he have earplugs and a headphone? Please reply

  • @pylyp123456 so he doesn't hear the commentary + crowd

  • @pylyp123456

yeah the ' headphone ' are like aircraft ear protection. can't hear anything other than the game.

  • its a shame that Quake 3's greatest legacy is spawning that shitty fucking Modern Warfare engine and series

  • BEAST

  • What map is this?

  • Comment removed

  • @RenegadeFury Thanks

  • @arandomu JESUS CHRIST DAFUQ MAN, this is q3dm6

  • @lotmein20 ak thx

  • @lotmein20 but how did he know about the rail since cooller didnt see rapha pick it up

  • @nevelsight Experience and playing the game a loooot

  • can someone explain what he means with : that grenade probably forced him to decide im not gonna attack trough here cause he has railgun ? ??? at 14:06 ...

cause that doesnt really make sense for me atm

  • This is amazing commentary!

  • dont even play quake but i kinda enjoyed this lol

  • @Collingho22 lol me too i dont even play quake but this is so fun!! I would actually play but India has no servers and i would probably get shit ping to foreign countries :(

  • nice! :)

  • 11:27 another amazing rail

  • white people all look the same

  • @ev8lol ohok

  • So, Is there more of such shows? Or its just 2: Rapha vs Cooller and Cooller vs Rapha?

  • @MrGammaGoblin

watch?v=U6NuMyXw1Hs is the entire 4 game match.

  • @SALordBaxter

    No, no)

I dont need the recording of the event, but i need this very kind of interview - with the same host (dont know who is he >_<), but with another players.

  • Great explaination by rapha!

  • It's incredible how many smart decisions he makes that he doesn't even have time to explain.

    Brilliant player.

  • @motfy1 No more amazing than any other set of subconscious skills people have.

  • @MrNiggerseverywhere Go play quake live competitively then say that.

  • Can you do more of these, preferably at a language wich the player master, so that the analysis doesn't suffer.

  • rapha is boss

  • whats with slowmo...?

  • I feel so stupid for not trying out Quake Live back in the old days...

  • @FatherTuck

What do you mean Quake Live back in the old days?

Quake live is the most modern version of Quake at the moment in terms of multiplayer, you clearly either mean quake 2 or quake 3 arena, now I know you're a casual and you probably play shitty call of duty games all day

  • @GrawrawrLPs What i meant was that I used to play quake1-2-3 like crazy back in the good old days, but i never gave MP a chance. I didn't know Quake Live was as new as it is, my mistake.

And yeah, I play a lot of shitty call of duty games. So what?

  • This is strangely fascinating.

  • thats mah nigga right there

  • Wow, I knew that this game was complex but from watching this... holy crap is there a lot to know when playing this game at a top level. Wow. That's just amazing.

  • Cooller? it's no hard to do?

  • hey guys is TDM or FFA or dual games better than elimation?

  • @XxXI3linkXxX my momgg

  • I place my bet on Bethesda.

  • @izvarzone Bethesda chickened out and if i was on notch's team he would win hands down/

  • @hellsing4life

Bethesda just wanted to sue him, and rightly so, he's a massive faggot.

Such an idea is childish on Notch's part a court case is not a fucking game.

Notch is a moron, nuff said and you're an idiot for thinking that Mojang could even win, I highly doubt any of the eastern european morons could even play vidya.

  • @GrawrawrLPs

Notch is one massive faggot. Bethesda is full of massive, lying faggots, with toddler leading them.

Also, I bet eastern europeans know more about vidya than people in uk, the console land of the EU.

  • crazy rail by cooller at 7:22

  • @r0llskyay0 holy shit i didnt even notice that

  • @r0llskyay0 not all all =(

  • @r0llskyay0 i think that was a shotty shot

  • The interviewer sounds like he's about to sleep.

  • @crazyboyxx

You're shit at gaming btw, hi5

  • @crazyboyxx

Cs 1.6 is just as hard and competive as quake live, believe it or not. Saying it's a bad competive game is the most stupid shit i've ever heard. Look at lan prize money difference between QL and CS. And cod4 is a great game which requires alot of skill. People like you who ONLY think the game you play is good are pathetic. CS is much bigger, harder and more competive then quake. Cod4 is a great game, hard to master. Check prodragon71 on youtube, it's more complicated then camping.

  • @audun0905 harder and more competive then quake. fail

  • @uuuaaaaaa

Don't think you have any idea how much time teams spend on tactics and communication compared to aim and movement. 99 percent of the time they practise it's only strategies, tactics, communication and time differences etc. If you want to become the best in cs with a team you're gonna have to dedicate every single hour of your life for several years. I mean the top level players are so unstopable at their tactics you would probably never even be able to resist. It's bigger then quake.

  • @audun0905 CS is a slow game that requires very good team coordination and hitscan aim, and has the other aspect the economy. Also the game that started e sports was quake. Both are different games, but i think quake is the king of all competitive fps in terms of 1v1, but if you take quake tdm to its limits, hands down, not even cs can match that. for me the trinity of competitive games is:

    Quake

    CS

    Starcraft

Quake games are played since 1996 ;)

  • @uuuaaaaaa

cs is from 1999? Not a big differemce. Ofcourse quake is best for 1v1 and tdm, no doubt, but CS is just as hard to challenge as quake. Yes you might have to time 4 items, but in CS you have to gather information from your teammates based on them peaking the opponments, and come together with a solution where to attack and fall back, and what weapon and eco the opponments have. CS is the mother of teamplay and tactics, and both cs and quake requires same iq and game knowledge.

  • @audun0905

And yes, quake was the thing that started e-sports, but CS was the thing that made it insanely big. I mean it was aired on numeious tv channels and really brought gaming mainstream. Gaming wouldn't even be remotely close to where it's at without CS. Cs is also on every single big LAN in the world with the highest prizes. In almost every event CS is the main game. Not that that has anything to say for which game is better but anyways..

  • @audun0905 Doom was on the scene way before Quake even appeared, First Quakecons was focused around Doom, and due to those players competitng did they hop over to the Quake franchise. There were loads of other games even before Doom which started out esports, it goes way back to the early 90s

  • @audun0905 Your game is like a joke to us, when somebody is getting raped in a Quake game we say to them "go play CS"

How do you move forward in CS? Oh, you hold down W?

    Here's how we move forward:

    [mright100º] W A [mleft100º] [space] [mleft15º] [space] [mright32º] D [space] [mleft34º] A [space] [mright 36º] D [space] [mleft38º] A [space] [mright40º] D [space] [mleft25º]

Now pack up your skill comparison arguments and kindly get the fuck out, we're watching Rapha in here

  • @ch72105 Didn't know quake players were so arrogant then. CS is a joke? It's the most skill demanding team based FPS shooter in the history of video games my friend. How do you syncronize 7 flashes, 4 smokes, 4 nades and 5 different pushes as a team - at the same time? Practise, practise, practise and skill. You most likely haven't even seen the cyx game analyse vs PGS in WCG finals, and you think you can even say a word about CS. Rofl, gotta love the newfags who think they have a clue.

  • @audun0905 Amen, playing competetive CS is incredible hard.

  • @uuuaaaaaa

And I know that quake is one of the most hard and challenging games out there, no doubt, but CS has been the mother of FPS games for so many years, and the dedication the top teams and players put into it is just insane. i've played both games equally much and i'm not a fanboy of either of them. But cs is harder to master. Remember that in quake it's usually played 1v1 in major events, on cs you have 5 players who must work together EXTREMELY well to win. You can't win alone in cs

  • @audun0905 CS has quake 1 DNA it uses an heavily modified idtech 1. In a quake duel you have to focus on timing 4 items to the second, have ridiculous aim, position, enemy awareness, also movement is much more difficult than CS. If you consider quake tdm it takes everything duel takes plus tactics and weapon timming.

Quake has another thing that CS lacks, The vertical fights and height advantages are much more determinant in quake.

  • @audun0905 I've watched / played CS for 10 years and I disagree. Quake is a more demanding game, SC2 too for that matter. Go watch cArn's CS analysis videos, he barely has anything to say compared to rapha, because there's less to analyze.

  • @teooo Carn is a bad player, and carn's videos isn't even well done. Go watch the analyzes of cyx vs PGS in WCG:)

  • tshort ? istanbul :D , turkey :D

  • Such a well manner gamer.. good guy Rapha

  • @crazyboyxx Not really, I don't play it because it got boring fast, and was more about item control than player skill. QL doesn't even have headshots, it is a lot easier to just hit people in the body than in the head.

You want a hard and punishing game, play STALKER with the LURK mod.

  • @dedcat27

You don't play it because it has a GIGANTIC learning curve.

Stalker is a great game...but you are comparing apples to banana smoothies.

  • @mshartz5 Not really, been playing FPS games for close to 20 years. A challenging game doesn't bother me. I don't see it having a gigantic learning curve at all. It is all about who grabs the best gear first, same as all the quake games were.

I played Quake 2 online, it was pretty enjoyable, but I don't think I had played tactical shooters yet, so I had no comparison for another style of FPS. I grew up playing all those DM games online, Duke, Doom2, Quake, unreal, ect.

  • @dedcat27

Well, CA has been my mode of choice and gear spawning means nothing in that.

  • @dedcat2 lol.

  • @dedcat27

It's not like that at all. Good players exploit time differences between items and easely take advantages of it. If you have played fps games for 20 years and is so stupid I really feel bad for you and your 20 last years

  • @audun0905 Not stupid at all, thanks. I mainly prefer "tactical shooters" which is more about player skill and aiming ability than what weapon or powerup you have.

It is like that, even he was constantly commenting on "item control".

  • @dedcat27 Item Control isn't tactics? Positioning isn't tactics? Dumbest shit I ever read.

  • @glasscube It is tactics, I was differentiating between player skill and item control. I meant more along the lines of having a chance with starting weapons, rather than having to depend on picking up another gun, which may or may not happen.

The game is too dependent on items. You should be able to do good, without picking anything up, if you have the skill. Powerups should confer an advantage, but you should be able to do without them.

  • @dedcat27 Well there aren't many games you can compare Quake to as far as competitive traits go. There are CS1.6 and CSS. Even in those games you lose a pistol round and you either make it up by getting some lucky/skillful kills or you save up. Two games that look to achieve the same thing in very different ways, and in my opinion both pull them off very well. (but both have "momentum" to gain/lose by very little mistakes)

Props for having a polite reply even if I came off as a dick

  • @dedcat27 That's how you look at quake? The player who picks up the guns and items fastest has won the game? Christ, dumbest shit i've ever read. Good players find gaps between items, challenge to see when theya re picked up and retreat to yellows/25 healths. Look at rapha: He delayed megatime so he had 2 seconds to take red, heavely outstacked by cooller. What happened? He got back in the game by exploiting time differences and eventually won. Quake is nothing but mind and skill

  • @dedcat27 why should you be able to good with the weakest weapon in the game and 0 armor

  • @dedcat27

Then how do people come back in games with no stack, where the opponment is fully stacked with all weapons? I don't play quake active, but I do play cod4 and cs 1.6 active. It doesn't just take aim and map control to win duels in quake, it takes timing precision, positioning, movement and item control. A good player easely comes back against a fully stacked opponment if he know's what he's doing. When you deny that, just so obv that you can't come back in games because you're dire

  • @TheNMOMC2 derp

  • Rocket Science :)

  • TF2 was good when there were no extra weapons and it wasn't hat fortress 2

  • @crazyboyxx Well, yes, CS at least inspired teamplay and coordination, CODs always were the sitting-duck-shoot-out type of game. :\

I don't play more QL just cuz it doesn't addict me so much. It's not cuz it's hard, I played HL2dm for 4 years, and I still can't find a harder game and with such a high skill ceiling and versatility (if only Valve would care... sigh). Still I think Quake is challenging enough to be a great game, only more linear than HL2dm, but more balanced. It's my 2nd fave. :)

  • 1:45 that fuckin' hat kills me. all sparkles 'n shit xD

  • Did players always move that fast in Quake 3 Arena? I haven't touched the game in years, I don't quite remember it being so fast lol.

  • @RunningWildVidya yes, you do that by 'strafejumping' and it's in Quake's game design from the start (Quake 1)

  • @88Cortex Well, strafejumping was a physics bug in Quake 1, but since everyone loved it so much, id said "sure, why not" and made it an 'official' movement trick.

  • this video is so fucking GOOD!

  • That is a lot to think about in the middle of a game, I just rush and shoot until somebody dies.

  • and then i thought that i should make a witty comment.´

    and that's EXACTLY what happened.

  • now comapre this game with LoL its nothing quake is more skillful but i see esports is all about nuber (viewers)

  • why isn't there a new one of these for the latest of rapha's games ?? seriously, come one - get to it... like why are you not uploading it right now??

  • chess with rocket launchers

  • @eskimoechidna Doesn't get more manly than that. :D

  • @Dryzenkov God forbid having to think in an FPS game.

  • this is one awesome fucking video

  • good gamer. plays quake. very modest. i like him!

  • This is probably my favorite gaming-related video here in YouTube. I`ve already watched this four times in the two days since I`ve first seen it, which is amazing considering it`s almost 19 minutes. I never knew Quake III had this much strategic depth to be honest.

  • Rapha, Dr. Quake.

  • just curious, who's the asian kid sitting behind rapha?

  • @sadface0 fan zhibo i think

  • 32 people are Cooler fans. :)

  • enjoyed the discussion alot! i love these vidoes

  • what headphones is he wearing at 1:23 ??

  • guys if u think this game is a bit too fast paced try Uberstrike. Fun gameplay, same controls, even strafing. Less maps, but more active forums and hilarious players.

  • Quake, CS 1.6 and Starcraft are the real games in their genres, rest are garbage for casuals

  • Comment removed

  • how old is that matchup ?

  • I agree with howiejcee)

  • While I have not Played PC Quake (Played Quake 3 Arena on the Dreamcast), I love how this is broken down. I wouldn't mind playing this or Unreal Tournament again after seeing this high-class video, even if FPS isn't my strong point.

  • @KhanFus1on new games can be pretty unrealistic...

  • Comment removed

  • @KhanFus1on Too obvious man. If you're gunna troll, at least make it subtle.

  • @KhanFus1on well obvioulsy you dont know what you are talking about cause q3matches in 2001/2002 on WCG were the most interessting fps games with a price of 250K for first place so could you show off a game that had so much success as q3a had? oh btw q3a was never about graphics it was all about the game itself (arenastyle, speed and so on ..)

  • @KhanFus1on gtfo casual fag

  • I'm a counter strike source player who has just started playing quake live. The last time I played a deathmatch game was quake 2. This video is amazing! A real eye opener to how complex and tactical this frantic game can be.

  • What map is this?

  • Thanks for the tips rapha!

  • Quake+Unreal Tournament=Epic Games that set the standards of many shooters online such as Black Ops and TF2(remember the hat game)

  • Many good Quake player also play poker.. Now I know why :D

  • This vid was very interesting! Great job!

  • How does this inspire you to fucking play xbox?

  • @zikamine yeah dude how the fuck
