  • I always loved those animal bits on Sesame Street. Not sure if they do enough of these anymore. 2/3 to 1/2 of the show is Elmo's World.

Sadly, this probably wouldn't hold a kid's attention these day.

  • @nickagneta omg, i thought the same thing (about holding a child*s attention), so i tried it out. i teach 1 & 2 year olds in daycare & always show them classic sesame street clips when they 1st wake up from nap (so that they kind of stay quiet & let those who are still sleeping have peace & quiet. lol*). they LOVE them! i showed them this one, & the music seemed to hypnotize them. it makes me happy that the SS i grew up w/ still has an effect on today*s kids! :D

  • @OhhBabyLeelee That's awesome that you do that and kids cans till enjoy these videos. And keeping kids quiet and under control is a plus!

  • As for me I hate sesame street but I own seahorses and you need work your way up

  • As a kid raised on Sesame Street I had very few other points of reference educationally until primary school. This particular video would prove the source of a 35-year-long misconception on my part (obviously one that I carried well into adulthood), which was that the size of a seahorse was more or less equivalent to that of a tenor or alto saxophone. Apparently, they're much smaller.

  • Surprisingly enough, the seahorse is the only animal in the world in which the FATHER gives birth to the babies, not the mother.

  • I wondered if all that sea horses have gone extinct.

  • Never under stood why they were called seahorse.

  • I think if I remember right, this is probably the first exposure I had to a seahorse when I was a kiddie. :)

  • I love these clips from the early seventies;

  • @PimpThe478 : I miss them too...ahh, the days before TV got twisted into the abberation it is now...

  • There's something very weird about seahorses I learned when I was working one day in Disney World. They're the only animals in the world in which the mothers are actually the FATHERS, because they.give birth to the babies.

  • I thought it was a seahorse because how it curls up like a "C".

  • Gorgeous music

  • @Sparkina Yes, it's pretty, but the brief transitions at 0:51 and 1:37 were a bit too mysterious-sounding for me (haunting and a bit "creepy" --that's the whole-tone scale for you, just like the eerie-sounding instrumental opening of Stevie Wonder's "You are the Sunshine of My Life"). I can honestly say that those two brief passages were enough to make me a bit nervous about running into a seahorse in my early nautical outings.

  • @DavidFick I love those changes! Kind of - 'equivocal'!

  • To this day, I still prefer live instruments, and I'm sure it's because of tranquil segments like this :) Thanks for finding this for us!

  • I always loved the music to this one. didn't they do a snake film with the same music in the background? does anybody have it?

  • This music is so sothing and comforting bringing me back to happier times when life was simpler.

  • @Lordofjunggle Joe Raposo RIP!

  • I loved this as a kid and even to this day I am intrigued by seahorses I always wanted a pet one but never got one...yet

  • I heard they don't live as long in captivity as they normally would :-( ...something to consider

  • From what I've read about them, seahorses bred in captivity fare better in aquariums than the ones taken straight from the wild, which tend to die from stress. Seahorses also happen to be very high-maintenance creatures, which among other things require specific water conditions. If you feel you're up to the challenge sarahthediva, make sure you do your homework on seahorses first, so they can thrive happily.

  • The music, so delicate, like a seahorse.

  • Who comes with these incredible scores for these animal shots? I love this one, along with the one for the giraffes.

  • Pretty much all of the groovy music you recall from the Old School version of the show was written by the late, great, Joe Raposo. Try typing in his name on YouTube and you'll be amazed at the memories that flood back :-)

  • Joe Raposo- he was the in house sesame street composer.

  • I loved this one so much as a kid. The seahorses are so cute and the music is so calming. I wanted a seahorse as a pet after I saw this when I was little.

  • I love this score,but is it a flute,recorder or piccolo

  • recorder or similar :-)

  • @beckigreen It's an alto recorder to be exact. I was trying to play this the other day.

  • @beckigreen recorder

  • Did anyone know that the male gives birth to the babies!!

  • Love these animal clips keep them comming!!

  • If you pause this at 0:26 and again at 1:41, you can see examples of natural selection. The seahorse becomes almost invisible, camouflaging itself with the coral. Thus they escape predators by blending in with their environment.

  • This is definitely Joe Raposo's musical prowess, once again.

  • I miss these quiet little films, music and pictures go together to soothe the mind.

  • This same music was used for a "Snake" clip. Was it Raposo who wrote this?

    ~Ra'akone

  • You must have read my mind.. or maybe you read my request? In any event, thanks so much for putting this one back up. :)

  • no problem DiAnno :)
