I love how the fellow commented that most reputable historians and scholars dimiss the divinity of Christ. That is such a loaded statement that it cannot taken seriously. Very educated and reputable scholars believe he is God and Lord, and of those in teh field, even more so.
@Jugglable Yes, he has indeed read the New Testament. I would recommend that you read his books on subject (or at least some of his articles as found on his blog: larryhurtado. wordpress. com /essays-etc/). Perhaps you need to read up on the meaning and use of the word προσκυνεω.

"In the time of Jesus' own earthly activity, as the gospels make clear, Jesus was not worshipped. He was not treated as divine."
HAS HE READ THE NEW TESTAMENT?
John 20:28 "My Lord and my God."
Matthew 8:2 "there came a leper and worshipped him"
Matthew 14:33 they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God
Mark 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him

How does starting with the assumption that Jesus was worshiped as a god help in your biblical studies at all?

Why would someone devote themselves to a mythical being?

@333333344444 Because many do not subscribe to the Jesus myth theory. Most reputable historians and scholars certainly do not.
