This is a famous example of robbery, Sasha was amazing here and this program was great. Classical programs were perfect for him, when I say "Russian skater "Sasha is the first one which come to my mind, he was very artistic.
@soul416 And you're an idiotic harebrain. He wasn't "boring as shit", he was graceful, elegant and soft. It was highway robbery and even Yagudin knew it. I think they set him up to lose here so that they would have an excuse to mark him down in his SP at Salt Lake City. That was another classic example of robbery, all because they didn't want an all-Russian podium at the Olympics.
I remember at Worlds 2001 when Yagudin had that foot injury and was thinking about withdrawing but stayed in so Russia wouldn't lose one of its Olympic spots..
Russia wouldn't lose any of it's spots had Yagudin withdraw. There are two cases when the country gets 3 spots : 1.If the summ of the places of all the skaters from the same country isn't higher than 13 or 12 (something like that) 2.If the skater of this country won the gold. From Rusia there were Plushenko and Abt. Hadn't Plushenko win, still there was no way that the summ of the placements of Plushenko and Abt would be higher than 10.
@hatula87: the second point is no longer in place. a country must have a combined placement no higher than 13. if a skater had won gold then korea would've had 3 ladies skater in vancouver yet they can only send 2 since the combined placement score was higher than 13.
As much as I am totally in love with Alexei Yagudin, the results here were very questionable. And I think Alexei was clearly unhappy about this competition, and you could tell by his reaction and when he threw in a quad in the exhibition. It's not his fault but the judges always prop up the world champion. Although, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it because of Yagudin that Russia even got 3 spots for the Olympics?
all i can say is wow, i was lucky enough to have skated with Sacha many years ago at a skate school. a truly remarkable skater and person who was robbed of the european.
he deserved to win the technicall mark, as he did, but he didn't have the choreography or line to win the artistic mark, that's what cost him the gold, 'cuz Yagudin was more balance in both marks. Anyway i thhave to say that yep, he was robbed
That was the best skate I have ever seen on a European Championships, really great.
Is he still coaching?
