  • Okay people bitching about the automatic mustang. On a strip they are actually BETTER! Some 4.10's or 4.56's and an aggressive shift tune would have this auto killing most manuals. Shifting takes time, autos are nearly instantaneous and power is never lost. if you are shifting through 4 gears on the manual, and only 3 on the auto, the auto will win. simple.

  • @balexwogel of course a small motor can make great numbers on 20 lbs of boost. check out a tt cobra with boost that high...makes 3 times what an evo does.

  • @balexwogel Yup you're right... I don't like that argument because its stupid, and frankly I like the 4.6 and 5.0 motor. It doesn't take very much to get a 99-04 GT up to par with a Z28 LS1, LT1 or beyond.

  • @balexwogel yeah with 30+ lbs of boost and two turbos. a twin turbo 03 cobra will throw up 700+ hp easily on a factory motor at half the bosot of those evos and hondas.

  • @Alegriaenquidam The 4.6 is pretty close to the same torque output of the 5.7. But the 5.7 has about 50 horsepower more, that will always win the longer the race goes on. And he pulled ahead by MULTIPLE car lengths in the end.

  • BDthizzin- i think it would have to complete with a special addition camaro. the ss is mass produced. i always see people complain about the 5.7 vs 4.6. so beef up the suspension and put a super charger on the ss and then see which car is better. everyone know that chevy wants the corvette to be the top car also. so why doesnt the 500 go against the new ZR1 then?

  • 99-04 mustangs are neck and neck with LT1 camaros/trans ams. and you mean 98 and up camaros beat, well almost any year mustang gt. the 99-04 mustangs need at least full bolt-ons and cams or shot of nitrous to beat a ls1 camaro/trans am. I doubt there are very many stock ls1 camaros/trans ams out there though so the 99-04 mustangs need more than what i had stated. stock 6 speed ls1s put down anywhere from 300-320whp. stock mustangs put down around 240whp.

  • its seem like that because have not that big of diff between HP but the LT1 just over powers it with its torque. a 99-04 GT can stay side by side with an LT1 6 speed if the GT has a few boltons like exhaust, CAI, and chip.

  • i have driven a 2000 mustang gt with flowmasters and k&N filter. and i drove an lt1 and an Ls1. forget about all the tech bullshit. the gt was alot slower than the z28 and firebird formula i drove and thats all it is to it. a gt cant stand up to an lt1 let alone an ls1. and besides whats with all these chics drivin mustangs GTs? i wont insult the cobra but arent they spose to compete with corvettes?

  • supersnake and ZR1 is a very close race. due to the supersnake being sooo much heavier than the ZR1 the 120 HP diff is made up from low weight of the vette. but both or way overpriced and are not worth the money.

  • Foolish chevy boys. A Z28 will smoke a GT mustang but only because of the bigger CID in the camaro. Run your Z28 against a cobra and youll be seeing taillights. Try running a 5.0 camaro against a 5.0 stang and the mustang will win every time

  • the stang was lighter in the 3rd gens. and i hope your not talking about putting a Z28 against an 03-04 SVT because those are hand built. so its usless to compare an assembly line car to a hand built car. the mach1 match the Z28 very well and the 02 Firehawk's match the 03-04 cobras very well also. all the firehawks need were catback and and intake kit and it came down to a drivers race. come on dude cant we just say that both F-bodys and mustangs are badass.

  • if the camaro can lose some weight it would an awsome motor vs motor battle like during the 3rd gens and end this stupid displacment vs Forced induction battle. IMO something such as a supercharger should be a drivers choice of weather or not thats how he wants to make power. putting out a V8 version of a car with a supercharger to compete with another car thats N/A just shows pure laziness. both ford and GM are guilty for that.

  • when i said firehawks kept up i didnt mean like right next to the car but like 1 to 1 1/2 cars behind. ths pretty good for a car with 80 less horsepower that doesnt have boost of the supercharger at top end. i can see what your saying about drivers choice but it would have been better if ford would have just gone up with displacement in the cobras let Saleen, Roush, & henessey take care of S/C cars. it just doesnt seem right to do that to a legendary car just so it can take out the f body.

    LOL 1.5 cars behind isn't keeping up, that's losing, and 1.5 cars is how far back they were by 60. Firehawks weren't "keeping up" with a ~400 whp car (yes the 03/04's were underrated)

  • for the price diff & power diff of the 2. i would say thats keeping up. especially on how they take to mods better then the DOHC 4.6( of course the cobra just needs a pulley & tune & your at around 500HP but im talking about N/A) spend a grand on intake kit, catback, & computer chip & it could take a stock cobra if it has a good driver.

    Um no, an intake, kit, and dyno tune will not put a firehawk at 390 whp, which it would need to keep up.

  • you have to rember that f-bodys were lighter & had a better aerodynamic design against the cobras very nice but not as good heavy brick design, the top of the line f-body could keep up next to the cobras with mild boltons(catback, intake kit, ignition upgrade, tune) wouldnt beat the cobras easily but could stay next to the most of the time. but you have to admit, a $29,000 340HP SS/Firehawk did very good against the 420HP SVT cobra that cost almost as much as a Base Vette at the time.

  • turn your a/c on for an hour ride home and that motor might be runnin a little hot....there u go again with your car needs a s/c to do that, yes as we all know supercharging a motor is much more practical then throwing a huge cam and reworking the heads is....the car doesnt runn any hottter due to the intercooled set up so if i were to line up next to u with your big your big bad cam i garentee the ford is crossing the finsish line first

  • Dont know much about LS1s do you? Ive seen stock induction/ injector LS1s with little more LT hedders, cat and re-tune run 12s.

    Do that with a sorry assed 240hp "shit chunk" like the 4.6l.

    The ls1 is lighter and revs faster than the SOHC motor. Even the "Mach 1" 4.6l 32 valve does a best of 7000rpms. (equal to LS1 in that respect at least)

  • I dont have a Camaro, i have a cam only WS6 that runs mid 11's... it will be getting a 100 shot this spring and then go 10's... the car in the video is my friends camaro, it is getting a big cam and nitrous this spring, so you wouldnt touch that either with your GT.... and im sure your driving a shitty 2v if you have a Cobra..so the fact that a Ls1 may have 30k miles and not be new is going to knock a second + off of its time?   • ok guys i have an 04 gt manual full exhaust and a cold air intake and my buddy has a 98 z28 LS1 auto camaro all stock and we went from a 30 roll an i pulled on him by a car we then went from a 20 roll and we were dead even untill about 80 where we both let off then we went from a dig and he pulled on me by a car.....my point is that both cars have almost an equall amount of power so to say that the LS1 is far superior to that 4.6 is an overstatement by far

I raced a 05 mustang gt with diablo sport turner, cold air intake, n exhaust.. I beat em by half a car.. 5 years later mustangs still cant beat a chevy.... The vid of that race is 05 gt vs. 2000 camaro z28
