To say that you're willing to be a servant to the President is to basically say, "I hereby give up all my rights as a free American Citizen & that I accept a Socialist Dictatorship in place of Democracy." I've always hated that video. But since it is now a year when the video was made, I think that "servant" shit is not only delusional but impossible. It's easy for those celebrities to make pledges to recycle, stop 21st century slavery, or try to get to know your neighbors...they have the time and money. They're not doctors or firemen, they're mostly elitist actors and musicians, they don't have to worry about just barely paying bills and losing their homes.

Part of the problem with that is that there are no true socialist governments. Socialist aspects are commonly combined with other methods of governance. But there is one thing common of all countries that regard human rights to some substantial degree: they all have socialist aspects. if you look at the Western European nations they have fire dept, public libraries, etc, in other countries you have free education through the collegiate level, etc. Even the democratic process is socialist.

I've always hated that video. But since it is now a year when the video was made, I think that "servant" shit is not only delusional but impossible. It's easy for those celebrities to make pledges to recycle, stop 21st century slavery, or try to get to know your neighbors...they have the time and money. They're not doctors or firemen, they're mostly elitist actors and musicians, they don't have to worry about just barely paying bills and losing their homes.

I watched that video RIGHT BEFORE this and was like "Oh this is cool, yeah" and like Penn, at the very end I couldn't help but say "what the hell?" to the "I Pledge to be a servant to our president" That sounds horrible. America is a land of equal OPPORTUNITY, not complete equality. Everyone starts out with the same chances as everyone eles in America. It just depends on how hard they work and how they use their resources to better their education. Of course this is becoming harder to live by because of government interference.

that is completely ridiculous, you cant have equal opportunity unless you have equal access to resources. not everyone can go to college, not everyone can travel abroad and open new opportunities for themselves.. this is an age old, extremely flawed assumption that has absolutely no basis in reality. I would concede that for a few people, working hard does yield great benefit but for most, it only serves capitalists. My grandmother worked her entire life and doesn't even own a decent car.

I think you meant to point out flaws in communism. it's a common mistake but understand there is a distinction. you see, socialism is a mechanism for equality but the assumption is that it cannot be sustained alone because there are always greedy people who desire to dominate over others. this is where it shifts to communism However, if there was law forbidding a sovereign head such as a president, and people were more involved in localized government then this would not be a problem..

Actually contrary to this misconceived belief, the computer is the result of decades of human cooperation. the internet is an invention of the concerted efforts of the state, a social union; and there are example of computational devices, from which the modern computer conceived, that are older than the very concept of capitalism itself. hence, the computer would have likely eventually been idealized without the advent of the irrelevant notion of capitalism.

Part of the problem with that is that there are no true socialist governments. Socialist aspects are commonly combined with other methods of governance. But there is one thing common of all countries that regard human rights to some substantial degree: they all have socialist aspects. if you look at the Western European nations they have fire dept, public libraries, etc, in other countries you have free education through the collegiate level, etc. Even the democratic process is socialist.

The president's job IS to serve the people. But America isn't what it used to be. Most elected officials are nothing more than whores to those who give the largest contribution. Obama might be no different. But one thing is certain: without the help of vast numbers of the citizenry, nothing will change. Hell, it may require outright rebellion for there to be any meaningful change. All officials are elected to serve the people. But in modern America, it's obvious that doesn't mean jack shit.

i think the problem comes in where even if they are going to be a servant to his agenda, and not him, then that takes out the chance to take an objective look at his policies. I support certain issues, not obama, and not any actual politician. many issues i agree with obama on, and i support him in getting those things done. never would i be his, or his agenda's, servant
