@mafia850 That was the chord progression of F to C/E to D7 to G. It's the same progression that I used in the "main part" tutorial where the lyric said, "nine o'clock on a Saturday."
@Dideldum1981 It's actually the same as the verses. This song repeats quite a bit. I think I refer to it in the #4 video, which is still not loading or playing for some reason. Sorry about that. That's the second time it's happened to one of my Billy Joel tutorial videos.
Thanks for the tutorials. They are really good! Just one remark if you don't mind. I think the semi-arpeggio parts of the right hand during the chorus make it lose its waltzy feel and sound like a baroque church organ piece. A tad bit too ornamented IMO.
ahaa i couldn't help but laugh at the bit 3:00 "when you get to the bit i'm not really sure how it goes" lol if you didn't know the lyrics you would just be like wtf why is he showin a tutorial if he don't even know how it goes himself? :L haha made me crease up :D. It's a great tutoria btw i aint dissin it i just find that part funny :)
I haven't had the sheets to this song for several years, but I do know that the Billy Joel Keyboard Book (Hal Leonard Publishing) has a great transcription of this song.. very accurate, from what I could tell.
I ve already read thanks from Brazil and Argentina so here is my personal thank you pianojohn113 from Germany...
Ima student with no spare money for piano lessons so you basically pave your way into heaven with these excellent tutorials :) ...or at least you can donate less at christmas lol
Thank you so much for this lesson. I'm always looking for inspiration for a new piece and this has been so much fun to play. A friend of mine plays professionally and said this is the most requested song in his lifetime.
Hello! I m in argentina. Im 46 and I learnt piano when i was a baby. Years has passed and now Im traying to play this song. I ve passed all the sunday afternoon with your videos. I love youuuuuuuuu!!!!thank you very much (and sorry i don t speak english very well)
Hello, Mr. pianojohn113, thanks for your tutorials. I practiced several numbers from this. why don't you make upload of "Just the way you are" by Bill Joel. I couldn't fine this. Please!!!!!
i ws wonderin whether as a little request you could perhaps either send or make a slightly more in depth tutorial as i still struggle with it :S plz? if u cn plz w/b
Ha Ha I think I will need just a little more time. Maybe like 2-3 years of playing. Question. Do you have Eltons "Candle in the wind" in your teaching videos
It's kind of the way Billy Joel plays the second half of each verse, where it is sung an octave higher. The right hand moves up and plays some arpeggios and other broken chords. You don't have to play the part this way, but I think it's nice way to make it sound better.
my god man you are amazing haha! i've been watching all of these piano man videos over and over again if you can tell :D

@nuvamusic Glad you liked it. The arpeggio style is meant to imitate the mandolin sound, but I know what you mean.

This is kinda a rude question, but... how old are you? You sound in your teens, but your hair is kinda gray.
LNOL 3 years ago
I'm 44, which puts me directly in between the teen years and the gray-hair years. Must be the lighting on the videos!
pianojohn113 3 years ago
Hey Very cool videos. I am bringing my keyboard in my room and starting to try and learn.

Great thank u. But i have one little problem, maybe it´s only me, but #4 doesn´t load ( the solo part ) :S
jacoman1234567 4 years ago
I have the same problem :s
Schlash 4 years ago
Yes, many people have had that problem, so check my channel for the re-uploaded version of the same video, which seems to be working fine.
pianojohn113 4 years ago
I notified YouTube about that problem, but in the meantime, until they fix it, I re-uploaded the video on my channel and that one should work fine.
