  • The fact that he could do those constantly changing time signature patterns on his guitar and sing is amazing.

This man is so talented. Huge inspiration to see this.

  • I Think It's Pretty Cool It Sounds Nothing Like The Original. Imaginative.

  • Black Flag? Haha

  • @IDKSOMTHIN if you didnt know the dirty projectors reimagined the whole album "damaged" by black flag. its called rise above. this song is off it

  • genius

  • yeah but its daunting...

  • i wanna see a tab of this, do you guys think he plays in a strange tuning?

  • It's in standard tuning. his voicings are all very unique. It shouldn't be too difficult to figure out by ear.

  • can't really decide the ratio of self expression to just trying to break new ground. it can sound pretty contrived. if the whole deal is really more self expression, he would be better to talk to than listened to.

  • i have found his earlier albums (the glad fact, morning better last) to honestly be more interesting because of the fact that they're more focused on stripped down "self expression" than "trying to break new ground". i find that the more orchestral and grand his music is, the less it interests me...

  • does this have anything to do with black flag?

  • it's a cover. he covers the entire album.

black flag songs remembered by Dave Longstreth

  • Not exactly a cover, more a reimagining.

  • ah hell you know what i mean

    masterpiece nonetheless

  • Do I need heroin to appreciate the music of this guy?

  • you dont need drugs to have fun. but i mean it doesnt hurt either...

  • beautiful

  • too good

  • i met him, and forgot his name, i was like "ARE YOU THE DUDE from dirty projectors?"

i felt like such a little fucker.

    he's so great.

  • he is a visionary..

  • srsly.

  • How? Sounds of old really... It's good, but I wouldn't venture into visionary territory with this guy.

  • some of it is just how well written these songs are, but primarily for me, its the way he's orchestrated the songs on albums, particularly the getty address, which is utterly nuts. have a listen to some of the recorded versions of songs from the getty address and you may see my perspective
