Unfortunately Duran Duran definately weren't the same sound without John Taylor on bass, whereas with a lot of bands you can easily replace the bass player, Duran aren't the same without John's unique bass sound. Itd also be the same problem if Nick or Simon ever left, whereby Roger Taylor and Andy Taylor were more easily replaced. This version looks like half of Duran though, with a couple of session musicians filling in on bass and drums. Definately not a touch on how they sounded in the 80's
Warren was much better than Andy. I undertand that the "reunion" was financially necessary, but musically? Just listen to the live recording with Warren and the recent live tracks with Andy (although he was good int the eighties).
This drummer also kicks ass, but I like Roger very much.
Warren made it look and sound like a live band ,Duran Duran's biggest selling record to date (wedding album) was recorded in his home (living room) !!!!
True, but towards the end before Warren left, and they released Medazzaland and Pop Trash, these had to be their worst albums of all time. They'd completely lost the Duran Duran sound, and sounded like they were jumping on the bandwagon of the late 90's indie sound. Not right for them at all. I reckon the reunion was the only way to get them in the limelight again, and at least get them sounding more like they used to. They're now bigger than they've been in the last15 years.
@GRANTHAMRASTER I like Medazzaland and Pop Trash! Different band, but one I like, too. I'd like them if they were named "Bozoperous." There's no continuity with the old sound except Simon's voice, and that's OK. I respect them for it very much and liked it (although I objected at first).
Their "reunion" is typical, as usually was a bad idea, and it was incapable of capturing the old magic. Then again, nobody wants to hear the old magic. "Hungry Like the Wolf" could find no audience, now.
I hate how they dumped warren, who was in the band far longer, to get Andy back, yet now they've messed up their relationship with Warren, they'll never get him back into the band now..
Warren was in the band for 15 years. I dont see the connection you made? The band wrote Warren a letter, asking him to leave, so the original line-up could reunite. Its a shame, they made such good music together.
@brainysod Warren Cuccurullo becomes a permanent member of Duran Duran in 1990 He left in 2001 It even states this on The official DD website in the time line. You can also find this out in Wikipedia amongst many other sources. Warren left the band to reform his band Missing Persons AND SImon and Nick also wrote this letter, Warren had already decided to reform his band. SO you are wrong this is the connection I was making hence me reply to your comment, be me guest and look it up
I didnt mean permanent official member - he was working and touring with them since Notorious in 1986 - you surely cant discredit another 4 years of work.
Well Warrend always showed his commitment with Duran Duran since he arrived. I've read Warren was offered a pice of the earnings of Astronaut if he walked away to let Andy come back. He played his final Japan dates when he was already out but the dates were commited previously, so I think it's clear he was kicked out of DD. Missing Persons reunion came just as a "B-plan", the proof is that the reunion lasted just a little.
great song. cuccurullo was great in the song fist impressions

Original lineup for the first 2-3 albums. Reunion stunk. Warren was so interesting, the band was so interesting.
