The 1979 Nutcracker was my and my children's first encounter with the fabulous Ms. Brock. She was the very essence of what a beautiful ballerina should be. My little boy was the "Nutcracker" and his sister (who was only 6) was an angel and a soldier. The Savannah Ballet was then and always will be the most beautiful ballet company, in my opinion. I truly miss them all.
This footage is from a PBS special done in 1973 featuring American Ballet Theater. I remember watching on TV when I was a teenager. "The River" by Alvin Ailey, "Pillar of Fire" by Antony Tudor, "Rodeo" by Angnes de Mille and "Etudes" by Harald Lander were a part of this show...there were some other pieces like Cynthia Gregory and Ted Kivitt doing the "Black Swan" pas de deux from Swan Lake which are not shown here. It was a great show where the dancers were interviewed as well.
I also want to know where this footage came from! Karena was my teacher so it's really neat to get to see her perform. I agree with emabreywofford she is the best:)
Oh My Gosh! Where did you find this stuff? I worked for Karena Brock ten years ago and It's great to see her in her dancing in her prime. She's the best!!
Karena Brock is my teacher right now and she has helped me blossom into an amazing dancer!

Oh, how I miss hearing those staccato notes at 1:25 :(
Otherwise it's nice to hear an orchestration of Chopin's music, never heard it before!

@nycbgirly Karena is currently my ballet teacher with her husband John! They both appreciate and love those students who loved the art as they do.
