The Idea was to drive the pro communist, pro Chinese forces out of vietnam, which was not acheived after China and the soviets got involved by supplying and training the NVA and Viet cong.

Alot of Australian soldiers fought in the Vietnam War too as well as soldiers from south korea, new zealand, Thailand and The Phillipines...and the U.S. did not win. Saigon fell to the NVA in 1975. I am not sure I even have enough space to write all the wars out that the UK have won lol

@iwannabethekid34x The Falklands War in 1982 is just one war off the top of my head that the U.K. won, and the most recent, without help from any other nation. We shipped out an relatively small expiditionary force over 6000 miles to the other side of the world. The war lasted just 72 days.
You should look up some history, not just of your own country, but world history too... you might be suprised.
I am pretty sure the United States were a superpower before the 1950's too btw...

I do realize world history, ever heard of the russian civil war? The rome revival of the middle ages? The anglo saxans? Britian was a superpower, yes. But as you admit, they are no longer.
The only two countries that come in mind when I think of superpower is Russia and America...

You do not like the states and somehow that does not surprise me but I have traveled outside of the USA several times to Japan, Australia and many others so there is no sense in assuming things because that can become very embarrassing without a doubt. Next on the travel list is Germany but from what I have heard maybe never the UK.

@bwild61 Vietnam was a war on communism as a whole, the americans were worried about Chinese expansion and communist idiology, as was the same with the Korean war in the 50's. The USA were worried to the point of paranoia, understandably, as it was not long after the Cuban missile crisis. The Idea was to drive the pro communist, pro Chinese forces out of vietnam, which was not acheived after China and the soviets got involved by supplying and training the NVA and Viet cong.

@bwild61 As far as I am aware, the United States did not enter the war until after Pearl Harbour in 1942, It has been proven that Hitler and the Japanese had plans to take the world whether the USA got involved or not. seeing as Hitler wanted all of the jews in the world killed, and the USA had alot there who were US citizens, I cant see the USA just giving them up to him without a fight. It was Germany and the Japanese who declared war on the USA.

@bwild61 The Nazi's allready had plans for a nuclear weapon to drop on New York and other cities, and were working on V-2 rockets to deliver warheads even before 1939, British commando's had to carry out raids in 1941 into Norway to disrupt their Nuclear program by destroying their heavy water facilities...so it is a good job the United States joined in to get things over quicker really, because if you never did, it would be a very different place where you are sitting now.

Yes, had it not been for the efforts of those said allies, the US and the UK would be very different places today.

@bwild61 It had slowed down considerably after 1943, after the Nazi's defeat in North Africa to the british to cut oil supplies and also when the Russians pushed them back after Stalingrad...That hit their plans for Metal Ore and also damaged his army considerably too. They had hardly any soldiers with experience of battle left after Stalingrad, and the thought of the eastern front hit the soldiers moral hard also. Things could have turned out very different if we lost the Battle of Britain.
