I agree with that, when your jaw is relaxed you cant take as much pressure, so a punch you didn't see, would certainly hurt more since your jaw will be relaxed when it hits, but 3.5 pounds of pressure per square inch, just cant be right. Boxers can punch up to 2000 pounds per Sq inch , so i find it really hard to imagine 3.5 pounds per Sq inhc doing anything even if it was not seen.

When Floyd Mayweather fought victor Ortiz he was landing lead right hands and left hooks as well as combinations in some rounds and the punches seemed to have no effect what so ever on Victor. But in the moment that he did not see the punches coming was when he got laid out. that demonstrates that saying is true. If you can land a quick hard shot during the fight that your opponent doesn't see you might be able to knock almost anyone out.
